👩‍🦱
The first method that we're going to be using in our hair care challenge is using clay washes in our hair, likely instead of shampoo. I myself use rhassoul clay. That is the type of clay that I have been using for the past seven years to grow my own hair out so long. So that is the type of clay that I'm going to recommend starting out with.
However, if you have difficulty accessing it or if your hair is extremely oily, then you can use bentonite clay as well. But basically we mix a certain amount of clay. I usually do about a third of a cup of clay powder to two cups of liquid. I mostly just use water, although you can do half water and half aloe vera juice if you want to be more fancy.
And then you can also add in some essential oils that promote hair growth and scalp health like lavender and rosemary, maybe tea tree, maybe peppermint. You apply it to your hair as I show in my hair washing video.
Watch full video in my linktree!

I have seborrheic dermatitis and it cleared my itch FULLY in just 2 weaks, I have high porosity 3b hair and I was scared to try as my hair is already really dry but it was super effective and the mask I put afterwards get deeper into my strands 😮😮😮🎉

Thank you for sharing. I have a scalp that gets fungal dandruff if I don't wash it 2-3 times a week with an anti-dandruff shampoo. I wonder how the clay would work for a scalp like that...? I don't know the codes you mention for your hair, but mine is sort of curly an almost all grey and rather dry.

I also have dandruff and I've been doing this wash since the end of January, so almost three months. My scalp still gets dry and I have to wash it every three days. It's a lot of work, but the anti-dandruff shampoo dries my hair out and doesn't always work. I also use a rosemary water spray that I made myself. I use that in my scalp as well.

@@evitaevita98 I totally understand, have you tried a hair tonic of other choice? Rosemary can be drying for alot of people, I did it a few weeks and got that result too. When I pre shampoo with aloe vera I feel better

I use a mixture of Rhassoul clay and Green clay. The green clay helps with my more oily hair.

Same. I used green beauty's clay recipe (bentonite, rhassoul and kaolin). But then I saw her video of how bentonite under an electron microscope, has more surface area/pockets for absorbing oil. So I tweaked her recipe to have a higher concentration of bentonite. I also found eggs work extremely well.

Been watching your videos and would like to try this, but... what does the clay and such do with your shower drain and pipes? Just wondering, as I don't want to find out after the fact that it may clog things up. Thanks!

You probably could just dump the water outside after washing! Maybe use basins during the winter especially and just rinse into the basins and dump them after.
@LaSnob711

If you watch Katherine's hair washing video she says she hasn't had any problems with her pipes, but I think I'll start putting a bucket in my tub just in case, since I flip it over and wash it separately anyway... and then I'll flush the goop down the toilet. It makes quite a mess but it's easy to rinse. My hair loves it (long, thin with a light curl) and I think it's worth it to give it a well deserved break after 40+ years of shampooing.

I have never had a clogged pipe in 9 years of clay wash use. The key is using a watery clay solution, which I talk about in my other hair care videos. About 2 cups water to 1/4-1/3 cup clay powder.

@@KatherineSewing Guys as Katherine says, it doesn’t clog the pipes, I have been using clay for a year now and I have no issues. Thank you Katherine! I’d like to ask if the OM Rhassoul clay you’re using in your video is exactly the same like the Aromine Rhassoul clay? I love the aromine clay but I’m looking for a cheaper version but to my location I would have to order a bigger amount or they don’t ship it. Thank you 🙂

❤❤❤ this! I do this but never measured i like this cuz it will help me save on clay lol but I also use it to wash my entire body, and I have transitioned my family by putting a scoop into an organic cotton reusable tea bag and we use it like a wash cloth... And it's a lot less messy, although I have to argue that although it "seems" messy it rinses off much easier then the invisible soap scum. I Just give the tub a good rinse before getting out of the tub... And occasionally I will use a lil JoJoba oil after my shower/ salt bath.

I have been told this is NOT septic safe. I’m also concerned about clay being a non renewable resource. I’m using a soap nut and flax solution instead. It’s also great for people who have oilier hair as it cleans similar to store bought shampoo. No bubbles though

you can just do a mix of both of these clays as a "powder" or "dry" shampoo and then rinse it out? I've tried this mixture as wet mixture "shampoo" and it is extremely messy and stained my shower/tub red, the red clay by itself also makes my scalp extremely oily but the bentonite makes it too drying. Iise the dry clay powder mixture to wash it then I just seal the ends with Shea butter after washing my hair bc my ends are extremely dry and brittle.

I tried washing my hair with rhassoul clay today (after not washing for 3 weeks) and my hair was still extremely greasy afterwards. I then tried to do it again the same day with bentonite clay ... but the clay clumped up so much. I couldn't get into a paste or watery consistency. Still tried it but only made a huge mess. I'm travelling to visit family tomorrow so needed my hair to look clean. I ended up using my natural shampoo bar with no sulfates. Any tips? I'd really like to make the clay washing work.

It's really up to you - there is no "right" way to do this routine, and honestly I would say it is good to ease yourself into it anyways rather than quitting everything cold turkey. Just try to use products that are as natural as possible.

Will you have the same hair growth benefits if you wash your hair with just water, no clay?
@KatherineSewing
@KatherineSewing 6 месяцев назад
You might - the main benefit of using clay is that it is strengthening to the hair strand and a gentle method of hair cleansing. If water only washing works for you, that's great. There are other ways to strengthen and nourish your hair than just clay.

Yes, I have mixed the clay with egg white, and then used the egg yolk for a DIY conditioner. I liked it, but it is a little more drying with the egg white. Good if you have oiler hair.
