Trying A/C Renew to Unstick a TXV 

Next time, try this. Unplug condenser fan motor and get pressures up to 500… cycle condenser fan motor by touching it to power keeping the head to about 500. Get you some hot water and ice water in a cup- and dip the bulb- that helps exercise the valve. She’ll break loose. I’ve had 2 I couldn’t get to come around. I yelled through the phone “release the pressure” and giggled when you said it. Same with you wiggling your wireless clamps to get temps. Great video my friend.

You definitely put air into that system. I would of removed the txv sensing bulb and manually tried to actuate the valve to see if it even moves. It a long shot but could of broke it free. None the less always enjoy your videos keep them coming.

Screw the arm chair techs. Do what you need to get your customer going and when you can get the parts come back and set it back. You'll get a customer for life then.

Shouldn’t there be a way to purge the air out of the “injector” before injecting?

I see a good, honest and knowledgeable tech who just as importantly cares about his customers. I tried not to cuss :)

I agree with the TXV and Piston comparison!! Let’s discuss Duct work sizing before we even attempt to discuss how much efficiency you’d lose from a TXV to. Fixed piston Good work brother stay safe

Supco oil works well too.

You can use that ball valve on the injector to bleed the air from the injector once the high side is connected.

Yeah normally your supposed to purge the can before you start adding to the system. Didn't see you purge your hoses either but that part could have been edited out. But that AC renew stuff has never worked for me with unsticking valves. I've always put it in older systems as preventative

Great video. Just one suggestion, or actually two. One I recommended cracking the valve and letting some of the atmospheric air out of the injector. You will get a little oil so turn it away from you. Also I highly recommend Supco oil. It’s a real pain because if it gets on you or your vehicle it stinks to high heaven! Use what you need and throw the rest out, because it’s only $12-15 and it’s not worth taking an open bottle with you. You can also charge the same but have a better profit margin. Both products work great but the old school Supco seems to have a better batting average for me

I 💯 agree with you on changing out a txv an putting in a piston. Them txv will always break. An when they do it is always in the close position never open.

TXV - every time I see those three letters together I get so mad I could chew NAILS !

Before retiring worked for carrier dealer they had run of bad txv due to bad manufacturing practices they had they're type of renew product we had to use for warranty had 0 luck with product and pissed off customer because they had to wait that mutch longer to get txv and change it and yes if u don't blead that injection tool u will introduce air into system its just a matter of slightly cracking line on boath sides of tool for a couple seconds to pressurize each side to remove air tool should come with proper instruction on proseidure

Your right. The TXV don’t give that much efficiency on that unit. I went thru that nightmare here in NYS in the middle of nowhere. 😂😂😂

You did the same thing I have done with the AC Renew. My experience with it, it hasn’t been the best. Supco88 is a lot better, or it has been for me. If it’s a heat pump I usually make the reversing valve go into heat and cool mode to get it flowing both ways and it seemed to help quite a bit when I use AC renew.

I remember getting that stuff back in 2013-2014 when Trane had the run of compressors that would wax up the metering device. That anti corrosion crap ruined a lot of systems

Save yourself some time and just change the txv. I have had zero success with AC renew. Two things should be in a refrigeration system: 1.) oil that came with it 2.) refrigerant I seen Ted Cook using dye so I would stay away from that mess as well. We should just change the parts if they are bad. We should use sniffers to find leaks or ultra sonic leak detector's. Thanks again.

I have use it in Lennox first Gen 410a units. I make it run around for a week and it works most of the time.

Isn't there air in the injector that is also getting sucked into the unit?

John I had a brand new unit with the same issues. I ordered a new txv and when I went to replace it there was a piston in the distributer tube. So the factory put the piston in and a txv on top. Talk about a crazy service call.

Anyone have any luck with freeing up reversing valves with this nu calgon ?

I would have done the same thing as you because I have found the same problem to different types of split systems like a Reem and Goodman but it works.

Hopefully you checked blower speed, evaporator, secondary HEX condition and possibly ductwork for issues. Don't think you mentioned any of those. Could very well be a bad metering device but bad airflow over evaporator will cause low superheat and low suction pressure. Boiling water and ice water on the txv bulb can unstick the valve also.

If you aren't getting the AHRI rating anyway for warranty purposes then throw a piston in and get them going. Good on you

Hi Trane have this problem for many years I did installed one unit 7 years ago the same problem you have I have to replaced the TXV plus inyector too much work for us brand new unit

Depending on age and condition of the AHU, i would rock a piston. Other wise consider changing the AHU. Some trane TXV’s can be a pain to change. Great video!!

Yo you never purged the cylinder hose and cylinder and you just straight poured it in there with all that air and moisture

Did you troubleshoot the TXV by putting the unit in heat ,and putting a small magnet on the shaft to see if it moved when called for cooling.

That's nuts that a HVAC contractor can also be a dealer. I've never seen or heard of that hete in PA
