That looks absolutely amazing. The shop owner said. 'smells good, tastes even better', and I couldn't agree more. Even just by looking everything looks so golden, fresh, tasty and delicious.
The curry sauce is gravy with Indian curry powder. The chips are prepared in the chipper from fresh potatoes. All traditional chippers serve homemade chips. The cod was fresh and battered that day. I used to work in a pub next door to our local chipper. The pub never served food, customers just went there after closing time.
Danny you are a legend. Not only are you humble, sincere, kind, funny and an all around great person, but you help me over-come social anxiety. The way you aren't fazed in any social situation amazes and inspires me, I honestly wish you the world mate. Its so nice to just kick back and relax to your videos
Most early Dublin chippers were ran by Italians, who had very little English. In one establishment, the wife would ask customers ‘Uno di questo, uno di quello?’, meaning ‘one of this and one of the other?’ In doing she helped to coin a Dublin phrase, ‘one and one’, which is still a common way of asking for fish and chips.
@@johnoconnell3842There are lots of Italian chippers outside of “the Pale”, the Cafolla’s chain in Mayo and Galway being one of them, Macari’s and Borzalino’s up in Louth.
I was there in Nov of '99 and to this day I still think of it often and compare all to it. When I saw Danny was in Ireland, I'm like, Get to Leo Burdock's, pal!
When I was a kid (a while back) Burdocks' stove was turf fuelled, and the fish and chips were served in newspaper. The slightly smoked flavour from the stove was incredible. The original shop burned down and newspaper ink was found to be carcinogenic, so now it's a standard fryer with generic food-safe paper. Because it's so busy, serving hundreds of portions a day, the food is always fresh. It's still the best fish and chips in Dublin.
In the late 60s and early 70s, when i was in my late teens the pan was coal fired. every time you went in Brian Burdock was using his apron to wipe the perspiration from his eyes and then he'd take a swig from a pint of Guinness from next door. It was warm in there. The fish and chips were incredible. Never tasted the likes anywhere else. I moved to Australia over 30 years ago and every time I came back for a holiday I'd visit Burdocks. I live in Kerry now so a bit closer. Will visit soon.
@@daveconway2232 Just posted this very memory on one of Dans other video's (Just discovered the channel and didnt know he did Burdocks) Man behind the counter told me, early 80's, their food was the best in Dublin because of the Coal fired Fryers and they still used beef dripping, all the other chippers were not like that anymore..
Danny you are a credit to your kids . People love you because you are real, funny and a gent. if you are ever in Poole Dorset let me know please xxx I would love to share a bag of chips with ya xx
My son rang me from the supermarket and asked me if I wanted anything.. he just kept grabbing this and that and Io said to him.. 'have you had lunch'? and he said no. I told him to go and pay for what he's got LOL...
You should come to Nottingham, the Cod's Scallops almost always has something battered and and smoked; cod, haddock and hake on their menu in Wollaton recently
I'm heading to Dublin from the US for the first time (1st time in Ireland full stop) in September, and this chipper was at the top of my list so thank you for confirming it!! What a fun review!
Your enthusiasm is palpable. Being a Brit living in North America I can tell you fish and chips is the dish I miss the most. You'll never find a "proper" one like that beauty you just ate!
Britain and Ireland are the best, love how we are both becoming more together with the British and Irish lions, hope things can improved and become even better
@@WhatChaMaCalum these islands literally have 800 years of history of not having each other’s backs. Most of the blood, sweat, and tears from the Irish were caused by the British.
@@Dragmire800 Relax big man. Those who oversaw the worst of that are long dead. We can remember the past, but let's focus on creating a positive future.
@@lennon1482 prithee, is he a known 32 man, brits out gadger. was there in t' 80's, and was really capped how the jacks coulden't give a monkeys about "da nort". Chips didn’t take long there, probably sitting for a while, McDonaghs in Galway is the best I’ve had these lads not even doing peas. Dubs love spinning yarns😂
I love this guy brightens up my day look forward to your daily videos but all these takeaways and no gym can’t be good for you pal .. look after yourself matey
@@doesitmatter6015 they're not such a big thing in the UK any more, but most chip.shops.used to pile on the scraps, if you asked for them (sometimes you'd get lucky and some of them.would have little bits of fish on them). They made a simple bag of chips go a lot further, and were great with a tub of curry sauce 😋
I've gotta to say as an Irishman as good as those fish and chips are. Had em myself. You came a long way when you didn't need to because no one does fish and chips like the English. And Yorkshire in particular. Been all over Ireland and the UK, but the best fish and chips you'll get are in Yorkshire. No doubt. Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley, Leeds, Huddersfield, Scarborough Filey any and every Yorkshire town.
The English are known for their fish and chips but that Leo burdocks is better than any fish and chips I’ve had in Leeds, maybe because it’s the oldest one and they charge a lot for their portions but they do taste better than any regular chipper in Leeds
The song was written as an advert for Burdocks back in 1988. The City Council had decided to celebrate Dublin being 1000 years old . Wood Quay is/was the site of the early Viking settlement, discovered back in the 1980's when excavation was taking ace for a multi story carpark.
So glad you went to more than one take away in Ireland Danny, you will have to tour the country next time, food looks amazing and that guy behind the counter was friendly 👌
It is nice particularly after a few pints in the pub around the corner, you will have a thick layer of oil in your mouth afterwards though, but so what!!
I love love love your channel. It's unique, family friendly, funny, entertaining and I watch you every night... Thank you from a northern girl... Keep smiling xx
Most chippers in Ireland don’t have peas or gravy actually. It’s definitely more of a British thing to have in a chipper/chippy. Curry sauce is the most popular thing to have with it in Ireland
Like here down-under love my fish and chips wrapped in paper or even better old newspapers..not those fancy boxes where everything is measured out..just yummy thanks Danny
@@abluewhale95 when we were kids, Shipley, Yorks, in t'60's , we used to loiter outside a "chip ole". fish cake, between 3 of us, chips n scraps. fondest memories. prithee, where can i get a "fish cake" now ?. genuine question.
Everyone sits down to eat with Danny! that meal looks delicious.. better than what im having..Bit pricey over there, wow..Love your vids and your racking up the subs rapidly.. awesome channel.
:) haha - yeah a lot of people who have not been to Leo Burdocks think the wall of fame is BS but trust me its not.....they have all the photos of the celebs on the walls inside their shops :)
Brilliant video You need to come visit the West Midlands Black Country try out Red Chips Or a great place to try The Pie Factory Tipton, very very old school!
£16.50 with all the extras? The last 5 chippies I’ve been to have all cost over £9 for large fish & chip! Then add onion rings, drink and 3 sauces and you’re inevitability at £15 easy! Normal people do not order all these sides and it tends to make things look more expensive which the short sighted cannot get their head round….
Up until the late 1980's Burdock used a coal fired fryer and used beef dripping and if you went in shortly before closing time for a bag of chips they'd give fish for free to make sure that they sold fresh fish every day.
