As a kid I grew up in Greenland. At age 16 I used to ride my older brother's 650cc Polaris snowmobile. I think this was one of the first with 3 cylinders. It was a beast! Today I see production snowmobiles up to 1200cc. They must be crazy powerful!
hahaha you might miss your motorcycle but for sure this is the best you could against the withdrawal symptoms in your current situation :D Nice one! Glad I could help hehehe ;) Glad our bikes don't drink that much fuel though
Absolutely, it was like a substitution treatment: not as good as the original, still the best I could have and I really needed it! Thank you for the medical prescription, Dr. Schaaf 😉 Yes, fortunately our bikes have a much better fuel economy, but the Canadians don't really care as the gasoline here costs only C$0,95-1,05 per liter (more or less 0,65€)! 🤩
I bought a 2022 model and had to sell it after a few hundred miles. the track was way too noisy and there is no fix for it. Otherwise, I absolutely loved this sled. I ordered a 2023 Ski Doo Grand Touring Limited.

Even if you say that it's easier to ride than a motorcycle, it seems a bit tricky... But it must be very enjoyable, and, well, landscapes are amazing!
Yes, it's very enjoyable, and no, it's really easy to ride: throttle with the right hand; brakes with the left hand; no gearbox/clutch to manage; both feet always on the footrest, it doesn't fall... But it's indeed tricky in the city as it hardly turns on asphalt, and you have to hold strongly the handlebars as it shakes a lot! 😉
Wow! That was a real thrillride. Even i had adrenaline rushing here ;-). The winters in Canada are far more harsh than here in our region so we have to leave our bikes indoors without anything else as substitute. At least there are snow mobiles there to fill in the void ;-) But on the more serious note: an impressive machine with a nice sound when idle but when you go up to speed the sound is completely different. I was also i but surprised about the thumb throttle but thinking of it now with all the humps and bumps a regular throttle wouldn't make any sense i guess. Were you alone on the snowmobile? Anyway, enjoy your stay in Montreal and hope to see you back soon on YT when home in Paris.
Thank you very much Ray! 🙏🏻 Indeed it's an impressive machine. It's huge and heavy, but it accelerates and brakes strongly on the snow. Your guess is right: there is a thumb throttle in order to avoid unintentional moves on the bumps. Yes, I was alone on the snowmobile. The 1st thing I will do when back in Paris: riding my bike. The 2nd thing: making a video of this ride 😉 Take care and ride safe my friend ✌🏻
@@MrKiddoMoto The rental folks had it wrong, this is the standard Yamaha RS Venture with a 973 cc carburetored 3 cylinder 4 stroke (the RS Venture GT has the 1049 with fuel injection). This sled will go in the neighborhood of 250 km per tank, more if you drive like a granny. The drivetrain is essentially bulletproof in this sled but everything else basically sucks. It's way to heavy, the seat is way to low yet it's tippy, it's sprung like a dump truck and rides like one with an empty bed, unless you have a passenger. Even with the springs set to their lowest, it's way too stiff. Basically, this is from the era when Yamaha was building bulletproof sleds that would last forever but nobody wanted. I ended up with one not because I wanted one but because I needed something with decent power that was cheap and reliable, that's all it has going for it really. Mine has over 15,000 km on it now which is higher mileage for a snowmobile.
I'd say it's something "different" but that doesn't make it any less interesting. The way of thinking in terms of how it all works and how to ride it is completely different to what we normally see. I didn't even know these things could go on asphalt (albeit very badly, but you can cross roads at least). The riding did get quite repetitive (let's say at around the 9-10 minute mark) but that's why I can't watch enduro riding for a long time too, surroundings don't change that much. The acceleration was really impressive though something that kept requiring your focus probably.
Yes, the rear suspension has two control arms, both adjustable. The one in the rear bares the weight of the sled/passenger while the front arm of the rear suspension is used to control ski pressure, via the spring preload adjustment.
Salut Carlos !
Yes, tried it with a pillion, it doesn't really make a difference. By the way, the pillion seat is very comfortable. About the ridding and the handling, see the video ;)
