@@PearlApril I wouldnt count it as line art Its more like a cleaner sketch layer The line art he did for this vid, it looked fairly similar to his cleaner sketch layer, the lines were too thin and lacked variation
Anime also has different styles, in Demon Slayer perhaps (your reference), it is really simplified. if you search like Violet Evergarden or something similar, it has a lot of detailing. It depends of the style of the anime.
what I think is unique about Sam's channel is that he manages to teach us creatively (through roasting videos, and reacting to TikTok tips..) This really makes his channel stand out from other art channels. You help us see art as a creative journey! thank you, Sam!
Thank you for tackling this and letting us know that line art is not something you are very proficient or comfortable with. I think a lot of times beginner artists find that they aren't good at an aspect of their work and take it to mean that it's all bad and they won't improve. We all have our strengths and where we hone our skills is part of how our style is developed.
I’ve been in an art block recently watching your videos really helps because sometimes it feels like the pros never make mistakes and yes!,I love your art style
Something I would point out is that disney often used coloured lineart in their 2d animated work, not just black. The picture of Ariel that you referenced wasn't a very good example of this, since the Little Mermaid wasn't big on using them, and the end result is really good regardless. Though if you're curious, Cinderella uses a lot of coloured lines, and has examples of what the animators did with characters that had a lighter colour palette (like Cinderella herself).
It very interesting to see someone who mains a more painterly style do line art with little to no experience with it, just ironic that the "simpler" styles took longer then the ones that require rendering and lean into realism.
This was incredibly interesting to watch!! I didn’t fully realize how much saturated your colors are until I saw them side by side with a more realistic and a more anime style 😯 I personally still struggle as I can’t color and I don’t know which style I’m mostly gravitating towards (there are simply too many I find beautiful and wish to emulate). It was interesting to see you struggle with the linearts too, since I experience the same discomfort if I try to define shapes without it xD it baffles me still how you can convey different shapes using hard and soft edges instead of lines Also I hope you’re doing better now :/ food poisoning sounds awful
Art tip for people (but they might think it's trash): Use a normal skin tone colour, then get a red colour, make the opacity lower and colour over the skin colour. Another art tip: Draw your character then make a new layer, clip it onto the character layers, make the opacity lower and colour the whole character to add a small tint to the drawing which makes the colours seem a bit more unified instead of completely separate - Me, a stupid 13 year old who is trying to draw semi-realism but still sucks/ me, an unprofessional artist who can't even draw anatomy or hands, so why did I just type in those tips when I'm unprofessional lol
Here is a tip for line art: do the line art before the coloring because then you can fill in the color afterwards and it keeps the color and line art much cleaner ❤
I literally spent 25 hours on my pfp it is one of my first are pieces and I dont have that much patience or motivation to do another art piece also for me line art is super easy
I love your videos and I love your drawings and I love everything about watching you you are so funny nice and you don’t give up on drawing like I did(: ):
I just realized that Sam has freckles and idk if its because the lighting is better in this new setup or because I'm just not as observant as I thought I was.
"Line art is very hard." Me who uses line art on paper: Eh, keeping it straight is hard and remembering where half of the lines go is difficult but all in all not too bad.
idk if id call it realism unless it's anatomically correct. realism doesn't have much to do with colours or fine details, it jus means that you dont give the characters big cartoon eyes
