It's hard to overstate how, as you said, Scotland was at the forfront of the industrial era. And yet, for a tiny country, we produced so many important inventions and invention improvements. TV, the steam engine, flushing toilets, road tarmac, the US Navy (seriously), the paddle steamer, colour photography, the telephone, pneumatic car tires, penicillin, the toaster, Radar, MRI scanners, contact lenses, hypodermic syringes,Anaesthetics, pedal bicycles, the refridgerator, cashline banks on the street (ATMs) even the idea to have time zones throughout the world.....all Scottish..and theres many more.
Amazing how much you achieved in a 16 minute video. The content and video quality did Edinburgh and Central Scotland proud. We need more. Haste ye back.
We need to pick up some of your natural on-camera abilities when you're back. Until then, we'll keep rocking our "just smile and wave boys...smile and wave" vibes 🤣🤣. Miss you both already! X
I'd say this to people grossed out by Haggis: If you are comfortable eating a hotdog without knowing what went into it, I think you'll be fine eating Haggis
J K Rowling is from the Bristol area in England originally. She came to Edinburgh when her first marriage broke up because her brother was living there. He had a cafe where she sat and wrote the first Harry Potter book. This was NOT the Elephant House and is now a Chinese restaurant. She wrote parts of some of the later books at the Elephant House.
Thanks so much for the information Andrew! We didn’t know why she ended up there so thank you for that. It was really neat though, seeing the beautiful city it is clear that she got some inspiration from it. :)
@@KeithandDev Incidentally, I’ve seen it reported that Rowling has stated that she didn’t get the names from Greyfriars churchyard and that it’s just a coincidence that some of the names are the same. By the way, I enjoyed your video.
She also still lives in Edinburgh in a villa which gained attention for its extremely large hedges. They were cut down recently to a more respectable height!
Watch the movie Outlaw King with Chris Pine, ,WAY better than Braveheart and WAY more accurate historically. Chris Pine's Scottish accent is very impressive, much more so than Gibson's. Check out the inventions that the Scots gave the world, , ,it's totally jaw dropping.
A Loon has nothing to do with Edinburgh it's Aberdonian for boy and a Quine is for a girl also from Aberdeen from the Doric dictionary, a boy in Edinburgh is a Laddie and a girl is a Lassie
Yeah we’re sad we miss those but it’s just how our plans workout out. Disappointed about the tattoo that would have been incredible. Next time! Thanks for watching George! 😊
