Before I’ve decided to try box braids, I researched a lot of videos such as cultural appropriation, black culture and hair braid culture because I did not want to offend anybody. However, I thought it was inappropriate for me to talk about black culture because I’m not one of them. So the video has failed to include a detailed description regarding the hair braid culture If you are curious about the history of hair braid culture, you might want to check out some other videos. I’ll leave the links of videos that explains about braid culture that are much more detailed and accurate that I used as a reference below here. And if you have any other videos or comments about the Black hair culture you would recommend, Please leave them in the comments. >> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-wFOdOY7xM-w.html >> ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-yFGwmUCH9aI.html
@@theredsum1485 there is nothing wrong with trying new hairstyles...the girl was curious what's wrong with that and she didnt offend anyone in the black culture throughout this video so I respect that from her so leave the girl alone...
@@niccolom4556 Saying a whole race doesn't look good with a certain hair colour is just hateful. This is not constructive in anyway. And loving yourself does not mean confining yourself to only your own culture. It means appreciating other cultures (which she is doing by educating herself about the hairstyle and its history) and sharing your own with the world. And what would representing Korea even look like?? In today's world, people are sharing cultures more than ever while acknowledging that we are all different and beautiful in our own way. Just because she wears braids does not mean she does not like her own ethnicity.
I love when people can reasearch and embrace other cultures. I think that learning about other cultures is such a beautiful thing and more people should do it. I love this and your hair looks really good.
So is it fine to do this hairstyle since you are not doing it for the appearance? Sorry I just want to learn more about it even though I did some research
アイコ because black women and men are still fighting for our hair to be accepted. Kids get kicked out of school for their hair being in protective styles like box braids, men and women aren’t given job opportunities for wearing their hair like this til this day. We just want everyone to know that when you do these hairstyles yeah, sure it maybe cool and trendy look on you but when the trend dies and we still have our hair in locs and braids we will still be discriminated against.
kermit A little black girl just got suspended for wearing her natural hair 3 weeks ago, in New York they had to pass a law making it illegal to discriminate against black peoples natural hair and protective styles. It’s 2019. It’s definitely not accepted love and what did white people wearing braids and locs have to do with my original argument???
This was interesting, I’m glad you searched it up first and tried to learn about it. As a black girl myself I’m not really offended, you’re just curious and I think you did pretty okay. I hope it was a great experience for you. Braiding can take such a long time; hours and hours which is why if you have it done by someone else it can be expensive and the hair itself can also be pretty pricey. Hope you had fun 😊👌🏾💛
Hi can I ask you a question if you dont mind? Im kinda curious why some ppl saying it is cultural appropriation. I heard box braids started to protect black ppl’s hair. So... what...? What causes this hair issue? After all it is HAIR. Does it really matter who started?
Saya Lee yes it matters. Box braids weren’t JUST started to protect our hair. That’s just an addition. Braiding has been passed down and taught through many generations in black culture so it already holds somewhat of a significance to us. Black women who wore box braids would be called ghetto and still do so for non black people to adapt the style cause it’s “cool” now irks us
Saya Lee box braids can be worn as a protective style/cultural style but box braids on black people are still considered to be messy, inappropriate, ghetto etc in our society and this has very real effects in institutions including the workplace/schools where black people are looked down upon for having them. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with appreciating cultures but when people find black culture cool on non-blacks but look down on it on actual black people.. that’s where the problem lies. Hope I explained it well enough!
She took time and did research on black culture just for a hairstyle while most people don’t even bother so y’all needa chill.. it looks rlly good on her ❤️
Samantha Covington yes people were coming for her in the earlier comments so I’m sayin y’all needa chill bc she did a ton of research on not just the hairstyle but black culture as well
as a black person I am really flattered that you admire our culture so much that you took time to learn and research about it and try it on yourself! I feel the same way about korean culture so I research and learn about it because I think its so cool 😁💕
wow you actually did a good job for your first time next time you should get it done professionally you should go to Itaewon they have a black/ African hairdresser that does these hairstyles box braids, twists ect and next time you should bush the hair extensions out before to make it soft it would look much neater and won't unravel when you dip it in hot water.
500 or 600 dollars!! GURL just go to a black salon, they really be doing you good and they work really fast, I’m glad you tried box braids!! It looks so fancy on you😍😍
At first I was kinda skeptical about this video i said “Um...what is she doing?” But 4 minutes into the video I had a change in thought. You really did your research on box braids and what got me is that this is your first time??!! You actually did pretty well for your first time and it looks beautiful, so do you girl and forget the haters👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾 Can you do my hair please? 😂
What is she doing? She's styling her hair how she wants because braids are not exclusive to black people. Anyone can have braids if they want them and they don't have to learn the history behind them. When I went to the Bahamas I had lots of bohemian women (they're black) asking me to get my hair done, I finally caved and got five corn rows on one side of my head, they asked me to do it! And I thought they were beautiful and I have always wanted to try corn rows. I think it's a super beautiful hairstyle! But because I'm white I'm not allowed??? That's horseshit and it's racist
@@allytedeschi9678 educate yourself the style she is doing is made and has cultural significance to black peoples. Many people are fine with sharing their culture like me but their is other people who don’t which I think as a black person is really stupid. I see ppl in our originating countries are more open to sharing rather then African Americans in the US bc of their discrimination we got bc of it don’t be so insensitive and do some research think about why they wouldn’t like other people doing after what they went through and it’s not racist bc a lot of black peoples don’t want any non black person to do our hairstyles. Also another reason is a lot of the people doing the styles that are non black are doing it for an aesthetic and saying it’s “just hair” or “just braids” which is wrong and they don’t take the time to educate themselves and don’t show respect for the culture nor the people
It was really refreshing to see someone who had done their research! I think the box braids suits with the contacts. I knew sis did her research when she brought the hot water out
Really well done for your first time! One little advice, when you want to have curly ends, you should just braid the braids together (like two big braids on each side of your head) instead of wrapping them like you did with an elastic band. It would be much neater, and more defined👌🏾😉
You missed a crucial step before braiding you have to pull the hair and then brush it so the ends come out layered and look better and then braid your hair-hope this helps for next time xx

Don’t worry I’m a black girl who isn’t offended💖 you didn’t mock our culture, you were just curious and it’s always good to experiment❤️ thank you for appreciating and hope you enjoyed it x
I just want to say I’m so in love with this video you look lovely with the braids and as a black girl myself I’m so happy watching this. You did your research and even did it yourself. You did it so well too I’m actually really happy to see this🥰🥰. Some small advice 1. Whoever told you getting box braids was 500 bucks lied to you cus it is NOT that expensive it’s normally between 50-100 at most and they were extremely overpriced 2. When you buy packets of hair that long. Instead of having to braid with the entire length, once you take it out of the packet fold the hair in Half or into three depending on where you want it to go down to( cutting into two is down to your butt and into three is mid back. I’m just so happy with this video I wish you luck with future braiding you and your hair are very beautiful❤️❤️
OML the braids suit you well sis!! I’m glad you did research on our culture and hair!!!❤️❤️ now that is what I call love💯‼️ I’m very interested in Korean culture as well and I’m glad that you took the time to do research!! Love from Chicago❤️😝🥰
Im happy you did it yourself so you can understand the process, even tho it was the simplified version.. its not easy .. its done for a reason, not fashion.. we are just able to make anything fashionable. Good job, they turned out nice
I’m glad you looked stuff up before you did this cause so many people do the style cause it’s cut or cause their fav had them . So thanks for being extra careful
I'm really impressed by how these turned out. You picked up on the technique pretty well and they turned out really nice. I like how they look on you. Make sure you wrap your hair with a silk wrap and keep your scalp moisturized. Also as a black girl I really appreciate that you took the time to do your research about braiding culture and provide information to others it means a lot to me. Side note why tf are box braids $500-600 that's unnecessarily expensive
I live in Korea, and the prices here are high. If I ever do a braids later, I'd like to try at a store in a place where there are a lot of black people. I was sad to learn about hair braid culture only on RU-vid or the Internet, but I want to learn more culture by talking directly. Thank you for share your story and tips❣
The style looks really good on you. Koreans are usually bashed for doing hair that belongs to black people but I don’t think it only belongs to one race. I really like it!
it belongs to a race i just think its their culture but people should be open to share and accept as long as people arent making fun of the culture or mocking it
The people saying my people’s hairstyles are just fashion are apart of the problem💁🏾♀️. Not talking about her, but y’all want to wear protective hairstyles not made for your hair type just cuz a model did. If y’all steady wear hairstyles not for you, you’re hair WILL fall out. If not now, eventually. We can only wear/ do so much with our hair types. Can we at least have that? (I’m glad she actually did it herself and went through the process so she could have an appreciation for the work put in, and she did a good job. So kudos to you, sweetie. Make sure you tie your hair up at night so it doesn’t frizz). Also, if you plan on keeping it in for a while, burn the ends so they don’t unravel. When it’s time to take it out just cut the ends if you can’t unravel it.
Ebony and Ivan I never said she needed my permission. Actually, I gave her advice on how to keep her hair from frizzing. I never talked about edges either. You must not have read my whole comment. I also said I wasn’t talking about her at all. Smh
@Ebony and Ivan LMAO she LITERALLY SAID "not talking about her". She's talking to those in which it implies to, she made it perfectly clear it wasn't the girl in the video.
This video made me so happy, you look great, and you took the time to research and understand and respect the culture behind the braids, which I appreciate 💕
waw you really did a great job for a first time! as a black girl myself im really impressed and it looks really good on you! i’m so glad you made research about it too and i personally don’t feel offended about it. thank you for embracing our culture like that and appreciating it, it means a lot for a lot of people!🥰
I’m proud of this video. I loved how you did your research and took the time to know about box braids in black culture. And plus doing it all by yourself it’s looks so good and neat you really did such a great job👍💕
