Hey all, just popping in to say something that I forgot to mention in the video. I noticed that these had a bit of an odor that my other acrylics don't seem to have. It's similar to the smell of house paint, but not nearly as strong. Just something to be aware of. Anyway, thanks for watching!

Also, I meant to suggest a 10 ml syringe to draw up some paint out of the jars and onto your palette. It looks thin enough.

I think it's a satin finish, it's a step better, for me matte is the the best! Thanks for mentioning the odour, I just can't tolerate any, and I'd want to avoid money being thrown at a supply that I can't use. Recently, I'm liking paint in jars, lots of poster colours come in that format, like ShinHan, Nicker, and Sakura. I want to try them hopefully, they aren't light fast but would suffice for practice purposes, I'm not selling art, or displaying it anytime soon. 😆

Is this just soft body acrylics? I have the liquitex soft bodies and I love them and I think they are also matte too. I am not a fan of lumpy paint like heavy body and I am grateful to find paints that go on as smooth as paint markers.
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 7 дней назад
They are somewhere between soft and medium body. They aren't the runniest paints you will find, but they also don't leave pronounced brush strokes. They are very smooth and flatten out really well! I'm not a huge fan of heavy bodied paints either, I like to be able to have smoother brush strokes for when I am doing details.

@@CautionArtistatPlay I didn't realise this video was 3 years old when I clicked on it 😂 I thought this was the product you had been waiting on to arrive. I actually struggled to get very tiny lines too with my soft bodies. I didn't think about the flatness widening it. I thought it was either my brush or just a lack of skill for those thin lines. It was honestly probably a little of all three.

@lozantoninocreations, that's why I really love using the Golden high flow acrylics. They are great for getting fine lines!

This is absolutely amazing and beautiful!!! I'm so happy I found your channel! I've been searching today for help and info on some Goldens paints because I was given a few small things of theirs and other then having used their glazing medium some, they aren't something I can afford normally, and definitely not after being out of work most of the last year, like everyone :/ but, as I said, I was given some random things in SUPER odd random colors so that will be interesting...but I was given a small thing of heavy body, fluid, high flow and matte. Now these may be older then yours because they don't say 'so flat', it just has the name with 'matte acrylic' under it....but I'm terrified of them just as much as I'm excited. I'll have to mix brand's because as I said they're random odd colors...but I've also got no clue how to use them...well the high flow and the matte mostly. I was amazed at how loose the high flow is, so I'm unsure how to paint with it...just pour some out and dip my brush? I paint regularly with a brush, but also do some pouring, but the high flow seems even too loose for that. And the matte scared me a bit just because I typically have things more glossy. But your comment about it being better for photo's was great...so right because it is SO hard getting good photo's of real glossy pieces. But I'm more excited to try the matte after this, though still nervous. I figured it would dry super fast and I had no idea heavy body dried the fastest. Again I typically use liquitex basics or Amsterdam and some artists loft...so these Goldens are way out of my league 😳 have you done a video with the high flow? I'll look. I've seen some videos, but typically they seem to use them along with acrylic ink and I don't have any of that or even fully understand what it is. I'm just an old lady who's been trying to teach myself art for some positive therapy to help deal with this chronic pain I've had most of my life at this point...but only got desperate enough to push through my head telling me I wasn't capable of making anything nice or beautiful, to try, and I'm so in love with everything I try :) Helps me keep my head positive when my body pulls me down... and videos like yours and so many amazing artists on here help me SO much because I only have occasional days here or there when I'm able to really be up and use my hands and actually paint or draw, so on the many more days that my body won't allow that, I can watch the beauty happening here and it keeps me focused on that beauty and being inspired, looking forward to the good days when I can paint, instead of dwelling on what I can't do, because that's no good and pointless :) so, thank you for sharing your art!! Sorry for the long babble...I do that when I'm excited or nervous, as I am about these paints, they're just so fancy and I'm not fancy nor worthy, but still excited...aaahahaaha...so any tips on any of it is more then welcome!! Thanks so much!!!🥰

First of all, you are worthy of using those paints! Remind yourself that they are just pigment and binders, just like liquitex basics are. The best way to learn how each one works with your technique is to just dive right in and use them! The only wasted art supply is the one that doesn't get used, so use those paints! As far as the High Flow go, you can use them with a brush, I do it all the time! They are great for covering large areas as well as for doing fine lines. You know how sometimes you need to thin your paint to get certain effects? Use this paint for those types of effects, minus glazing because they are too opaque for that without thinning them down more. I like them for the airbrush but you can use them for just strait painting as well. They are very versatile and can be used with other paint. They are probably my favorite line by Golden. I love painting trees with them because it's so easy to do fine lines with them! I prefer to use them on panel or smooth surfaces because they are thin, but they can be used on canvas as well. The fluid are quite similar, just a bit thicker. I like those a lot too. The Matte acrylics are a bit tougher to get fine lines with in my experience, but overall are great for things like backgrounds and large areas of color, and then you can come in with your other paints to get details if you want. Though if you are using the heavy body with them it may look a bit odd since those are glossy. But it can be done. It can be a challenge to work with Matte paints if you are used to glossy, because Matte seems to dry a bit lighter, especially in the dark areas, so just be aware of that. All the paints you have can be used with eachother and with other paints so don't feel like you need to limit yourself based on what you were given in each line. I'm sorry to hear that you have chronic pain, I hope that art brings some peace and joy when you are able to do it. Thank you for watching my video, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!

@@CautionArtistatPlay you bring me to tears with your kind words and with your awesome tips!! Truly!! You are right about the not being used is wasted part for sure and I will absolutely remember that and use them! I appreciate your advice on these paints so much!! Makes diving in much easier :) if my hands work well today I'll be doing just that :) Thank you for your videos, your tips and especially for your kindness and thoughtfulness!!!😁❤

These paints definitely look interesting, I like the look of the pop box as it has a good collection of colours to start with. I’ve also never worked with jars either so that will be interesting. I saw that you mentioned the odour in a comment, is it as bad as oil paints? 👍🏻
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 3 года назад
It's definitely different than oil paints, but there is an odor there, it's more of a chemical smell than oils. I don't know how to explain it. I didn't notice it after a while, but I definitely noticed it when I first started using them.

I have a couple of questions. What’s the open time on these? Do they dry really really fast like gouache or more like heavy body acrylic? How do they feel? Did you struggle with gradients?
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 3 года назад
So, I found the dry time to be a bit slower than heavy body, but faster than medium body paints like liquitex basics. I did spray my palette frequently to keep them from drying. I found I had enough time to work with them on my piece though. However, I tend to work quickly and this wasn't a very large surface (8"x10"). As far as the gradients go, I had to be mindful in the sky, because I'm used to my medium bodied paints which give me a bit more time and with the way these mix on the surface, it was a bit harder to get subtlety because of their boldness and opacity of each color. However, I added just the smallest touch of water and was able to work through it. Other than that they felt pretty good, just like other paints but thinner. One thing I forgot to mention in the video, and I am going to pin a comment about it, is they have a bit of an odor to them compared to my other acrylics, similar to a house paint smell but not as strong.

@@CautionArtistatPlay Thank you so much for all the info. The only acrylics I have besides acrylic gouache is WN Galeria. To me, these dry super fast but I'm a watercolor artist and acrylics are a new to me medium.
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 3 года назад
You're welcome! Yeah, acrylics can be quite tricky. I have tried the Galeria in the past, I have a few colors that I bought in a pinch when I ran out of other paints. I mainly use Daler-Rowney System 3, which is their mid range, not quite their student range but just below their artist heavy body range, and Liquitex Basics. Both are more of medium body and don't seem to dry as fast as heavy body. They are also easy on the wallet while still being lightfast and archival. I also loooove Golden High Flow, they are thin but the coverage is great and they are really versatile. They don't seem to dry as fast either. To me heavy body paint dries the fastest.

@@CautionArtistatPlay Again, thanks for all this wonderful information. I just checked the prices on Blick and Jerry's and there is a huge price difference between the 2 brands. The Basics set of 10 is $30 at Jerry's and the System 3 set of 8 is almost $50!! I'm thinking the pigment load in the DR must be higher.
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 3 года назад
The Daler-Rowney System 3 are a bit more vibrant than the Basics. System 3's are my go to paint, I have been using them for over 15 years now. I'm not a fan of Daler-Rowney's Simply acrylics, which are their really budget brand, but I can't get enough of the system 3's. The Basics do work well with them though, and I have an easier time finding Basics locally. It all comes down to personal preference though.

Great video thanks, just bought some. You're going to want to remove all that paper seal free from the lid, so you get a good seal, then they won't dry out. They seem like they won't last long in those jars half or quarter full.
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 2 года назад
Yeah, I removed the rest of the seal, I just didn't want to mess with it on camera. Its been a while now since I have done this video and so far things are holding up well. But only time will tell how good these jars are and if they will dry out. Thanks for watching!

@Bonnie10au

That's a beautiful painting! I love the vibrancy of the colours. So what is the difference to acrylic gouache? I find this very confusing.
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 2 года назад
Honestly, there really isn't a difference. Acrylic gouache is just matte acrylic, it's not actually a gouache. When it first came out companies marketed it that way because of its gouache like qualities, so they could appeal to designers who used gouache. But now a lot of companies are just marketing it for what it is, which is matte acrylic.

I haven't yet. I use the Golden High Flow for my air brush and love those! But I haven't run these through it yet. These are thicker than the high flow, so I'm not sure how they will do.
