I got the 12 set of Turner's Acryl Gouache a while back and I wasn't really sure at first about what to expect haha. A part of me was kinda expecting them to behave more like acrylics? Lol, but after trying them they really FELT more like a gouache, except that they were fast drying and didn't lift once fully dried. They do tend to stay moist on paper for a while before fully drying allowing some blending effects one can try in gouache. And when watered down a lot, they flow very nicely and can be used to create glazes and other watercolour-esque effects. Once I used them to paint over a ruined watercolour drawing. The opacity really helped. A very interesting medium. I do agree with you on the white, I've used up a lot of it even though I've not even done many paintings with them. I was regretting not buying another large tube of white when I first ordered these. It makes sense after watching your review, it just isn't strong enough. Great to hear your thoughts on them, especially since acrylics is one of your main mediums. I've yet to try them on canvas but I'm noticing they seem to feel more acrylic like on canvas. Need to invest in some tiny ones soon! The painting turned out beautiful, very fresh feel to it and I love how the additional shading on the clouds gave it a lot of depth.

I'm glad you enjoyed my review! I would have to agree that these feel more like gouache on paper but more like acrylic on canvas. It is a very interesting medium for sure! I definitely need to buy a larger white, and have not gotten around to doing that yet. I want to do another painting with these soon so I can learn more about them. I love trying new mediums, and I was really happy with these!!

I've been using the Green Label canvases from Fredrix and I also like to paint my edges and hang my canvas without a frame. When I do my initial drawing, I actually extend it around the edges of the canvas. I've never worked in either regular gouache or acrylic gouache but it looks like it would be fun to try. I like your palm tree, by the way. We have a lot of them where I live.

I love the look of painted edges! How do you like the Fredrix Green Label canvas? I haven't tried it. I have actually never seen a palm tree in real life! My sister and best friend both live in Florida, so hopefully someday I will go for a visit and actually see some real palm trees lol.

Caution: Artist at Play I live in California, so that's why there are a lot of Palm Trees around. I haven't used a lot of different canvases, but I really like the Fredrix Green Label. It's Belgian linen, so it's really smooth.

California sounds like it would be nice to visit, I live in Maine so I am at the complete opposite end of the country! lol All pine trees here! I will definitely have to try the Green Label!

I was thinking of this brand for my niece, she uses watercolor and just started playing around with gouache. I like to buy her the best quality I can, even though she’s not a professional...but I’m having trouble finding WN and Holbein sets right now.

First I want to say, I think it's great that you are nurturing your niece's creativity! I do think these would be a great starter brand for her, I like them and even though I work professionally, I have yet to upgrade to a more expensive brand, for what it's worth.

Caution: Artist at Play thanks for the advice. They are at a decent price at Jerry’s online. I hate buying really cheap brands, because even for beginners, if the medium works against you, you are likely to give up sooner. If she really likes them, then later I can get her a pricier brand. Have a great weekend!

@@geslinam9703 I agree with what you have said about the quality of a medium being a make or break for some. I think you have the right idea though, if she likes these you can always upgrade later. Good luck, I hope it works out and I am sure she will appreciate whatever you end up getting for her! Have a great day!

It was so cool to see you create the palm tree! Do you usually Gesso your canvases before you paint?
@CautionArtistatPlay

Thank you Gavin! I don't usually Gesso my canvas before I paint, unless it has too much texture and I need a smoother surface, but generally speaking I buy canvas that comes gessoed.
