I loooove diving into the local cuisines of each city I am in. Jakarta did not disappoint. I had a blast trying gultik and roti bakar with ‪@gypsyinsneakers‬ .

Hi Nikki, we love that you like Indonesian cuisine. You surely can't miss the delicious of our local taste. While you're in Indo, we hope you try *_Indonesian Creambath_* treatment as well. It's a head spa with upper body massage for 1 hour for courtesy. You can't find such treatment anywhere else, only in Indonesia.

Srikaya in that toast is not the srikaya fruit, but it's a coconut jam, also known as kaya jam in Malaysia/Singapore. A sweet spread made from a base of coconut milk, eggs and sugar.

In this episode "srikaya" mean's custard like when u make milkshake & it involve egg as ingridient's. True there is fruit called srikaya but what u eat isn't a fruit but rather a conqughtcion. Mixture like between custard & milkshake.

Some called it Sarikaya jam. People might misspell it as srikaya and got the wrong idea that it's made from the fruit

Girl, the legendary Roti Bakar is in Bandung, Roti Cari Rasa Kosambi. It has been known as Roti Bakar Bandung now and spreads all over the country, Indonesia. Even in Bali.

The secret how to make chocolate more delicious in Indonesia is they put we called some pieces "Gula Aren" such sugar product by a swamp palm sugar tree thrives in Indonesia's tropical swamp forests mixed in the chocolate and sugar. The palm sugar makes the taste sweeter and savory but doesn't get sharper like cane sugar when you add more

Gultik : gulai tikungan..inget waktu jaman masih sekolah...tempat mangkal sepulang sekolah makan gulai tikungan ini..memang enak dari jaman dulu gak berubah tetap enak. Kalau roti bakar eddy siapa sih yang gak tau...roti bakar yang sempurna banget rasa dan tekstur nya.. Hai nikki .. gak pernah bosen lihat konten kamu..selalu inspiratif dan membuat selalu tersenyum setiap nonton konten nya. ❤️❤️❤️

Gultik = gulai tikungan, or rudely translated, gulai at the corner (of the street). Very cheap, but usually you only get a tiny amount of meat. 😁

Hi, Nikki. I'm your new subscriber. I love watching your videos, especially the culinary vlogs. You exude positive vibes and that's one good thing I like about you. You're also willing to learn Bahasa Indonesia, and I can say your pronounciation is quite good. Keep improving your Bahasa Indonesia skill. :) Just a small correction here. Srikaya Jam (the correct name is Sarikaya Jam) and Srikaya the fruit actually have no relation at all. Sarikaya Jam is not made of srikaya fruit. Sarikaya is a custard-like jam made from coconut milk, eggs, and sugar. Sometimes we put pandan concentrate to add flavor and color (green). In Singapore and Malaysia, Sarikaya Jam is known as Kaya Jam. Have you ever heard about Ya Kun Kaya, a Singaporean café chain mostly famous for their Kaya toast? Yes, they use Sarikaya Jam (or Kaya Jam) for their toast. You should try it sometime. You can find it in some malls in Jakarta. :)

Well if you are still around Jakarta with Susan. You should try Gudeg Batutulis. I hope they are still at Pasar Baru. Small place but their gudeg I think is so good

Gultik: gule tikungan, sering diplesetkan gule tikus, karena yg harganya lumayan dengan daging yg berlimpah, tapi tetep aj rame dan emamg enak sich hehe

GULTIK - Gulai Tikungan (a corner in Bulungan area / accros Blok M which sell a Gulai), and the food name its Gulai Kambing (goat/lamb) or sometimes we called Tongseng Kambing ... and Srikaya jam its not from the Srikaya Fruit, its from egg and coconut milk and add sugar the cook slowly (do not worry Niki at the first time I thought also from Srikaya Fruit but it is not 😊 )... Blok M also know as a place for Morning cake wholeseller market hope next time you could try stay at blok m area at wake up aroung 4-5 am and visit the market.

try looking for typical food from all provinces, all of them are in Jakarta, for example the typical dishes of the province of South Sulawesi, namely Coto Makassar, Sop Kikil

A common misconception people have is mistaking serikaya with srikaya. Serikaya is a coconut egg jam while srikaya is sugar-apple fruit.
