Mushu is one of the best horses that I’ve seen trained that are new to under saddle. He tries so hard and doesn’t resist like other horses you can sometimes see on other channels. You’re a great trainer. Keep up the amazing work! 😊

Hi Shae, im in NZ and a friend of mine just got the El Campo. Such a beautiful saddle. She rides stock work and trekking over very steep hill country but also does Classical dressage. They're beautiful saddles. Im glad that you chose the Rhonda saddle, the other one did something weird to your leg. ( Your leg stayed under you better in the Rhonda - more centered.) Beautiful horses and an informative video, thank you, Brigid. 😊😊

Your choice looks like it would be comfortable for trail riding and adjustable, wow. Saddles have come a long way, much more versatile since the early-mid 70s and again late 80s-early 90s, when I had my 2 horses. About time. ZaZu and Mushu are so calm and take everything in stride.

For my table top horse I went with an Edix treeless Western Tequiro saddle. After going through 10 different saddles I finally found one that she likes and is comfortable for me. I never imagined that I would ever ride in a treeless saddle but I was desperate and gave it a try. It ended up vey the best fit for us both.

That adjustable feature is really nice. It was amazing to see how much it quieted the Quantum Sport once it had been adjusted a bit. It took it from being perched on the horse to being part of the horse. I liked the Rhonda Deluxe, too. It looks a lot like a hornless Australian saddle. I always thought those would be fun to try. As for Mushi . . . his back would be awesome for bareback riding. Wide body and mutton withered is about perfect for riding that way. If you ever want to go for a ride without messing with a bunch of tack, he'd be the one to pick. Grab a bridle and go. Bonus - he's a low rider, so if you fell, you wouldn't have far to go. But don't do that! 😆
@CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx
@CarolinaCarolina-ph9mx 10 месяцев назад
@@cattymajiv I had an Arab/Tennessee Walker cross (Star) when I was a kid, and she had low withers and a nice, round body. She was quite spirited, but still just so perfect to hop on and go for a little ride without a bunch of equipment. He daughter, on the other hand, was more laid back, and likely safer, but she was lanky, and she had higher withers. I learned very quickly how painful it was to ride her without a saddle, so I only did that a time or two. I'm older now, and a fall down the stairs (of all things, and not off a horse!) has left me with some injuries I just don't want to chance making worse from another fall, so I doubt I will ride again, but if I did, I'd scoop up a cute little chunk like Mushi. He'd be so perfect for casual riding. As for you, yes, do be careful! Hitting those rock hard withers even at a trot is no joke. Getting bounced up, then slamming down . . . that could send you to the ER. And then the real trauma would begin - explaining what happened to doctors and then being taken seriously to receive real help for the injuries be they soft tissue injuries or a fracture. The less time around doctors, the better!🤕

Beautiful works of art, ALL of those saddles. I know nothing of saddles, tack, or much of anything horse--simply a "horse lover" who follows you, and everything Free Spirit Farm. I did work at an Icelandic breeder's farm in W. Mass one Winter, but they're the most placid horse in the world, I'll bet...so that doesn't count. You do an impeccable job with everything you tackle, Shae. 👏 I've been watching the Aqueduct, NY, Thoroughbred race meet, and today, there was a gorgeous mare named "Belle's Blue Bell!" Had to do a double-take on her name🥰 One of the NYRA crew (Maggie Wolfendale, who's also a horsewoman, and married to a 'trainer') was in the paddock, describing how weather differences around the country do/don't affect the horses heading into Winter. She mentioned that many horses from upstate New York, like Saratoga, for example, have been clipped already, where they just had snow. She said those horses have expended alot of energy just staying warm, unlike, say, a horse coming in from California or Florida, or even Belmont (NY). That's the kind of extra info the betting public (I'm not one) gets from that NYRA crew. Sheesh, their feature on the "Iron Monster" (the starting gate) is truly nerve-wracking. So many horses balk at going into that thing. Some countries don't even use them. Smart. The whole crew raves about Thoroughbreds and their post-racing careers. They're raced far too young, imo, and usually not for long, so what to do? The horse lovers on their broadcasting crew claim that Thoroughbreds are the easiest breed to train for anything you can think of. If I ever have a chance/place to have a horse, I'm going to the Thoroughbred Aftercare people for an off-the-track racehorse. Either that, or a Couch Cob, like Smushu.😅

It's revolutionary really, isn't it, having a saddle that can be adjusted to fit several horses. In my youth, every horse or pony had to have their own saddle and there were only a few kinds of saddle: a general riding saddle, a jumping saddle, a dressage saddle and that was about it! So much more choice nowadays, although I imagine that can sometimes make it difficult to choose! I expect there's always been more choice in the USA than in the UK.

Hey Shae, just something to think about… I had a fjord with a table back and mutton withers, and I finally gave up after loosing count how many we tried, but he always told me with a hardy buck and flat ears he didn’t like it, yet bare back or bareback pad, he was fine, so, on the recommendation of a halfinger owner, I tried a treeless… I was in love, and IT FIT! So, I went treeless, (mine is a Bob Marshall)it’s still after many years, my favorite saddle, and I’ve had it fixed twice, becuase it’s that saddle! Benefit is it fits most any horse I put it on.
