I enjoy watching your videos and the explanations and examples you give for the Dynon, speeds, techniques, etc. I am building a classic RV-12 or should say have been building one for over 7 years but am closing in on completion. Plans are first flight sometime next summer or early fall. Keep the videos coming. Thanks, Greg

I swear I saw your plane on BarnStormers... Same paint scheme. Had to come back and check the tail number! :)

It’s for sale again? I’ve seen it twice now. I had a last minute chance to get mine into the paint shop or wait another 8 or 9 months. I saw that one, liked the colors, so I had the paint shop copy it. Kind of a cheesy thing to do, but I only had three hours to get it to the shop.

@@RV6Pilot Cool. I thought I was going crazy. I completely understand though, especially since you spent all that time building it, no need to waste 6 months more on a paint job! Anyway, 99% of everything we experience in life is just copied from someone else...

I also had a great FSDO experience recently. My new to me RV12iS had errors in a/w cert-showed RV12. The FSDO caught a second error-it was EAB vs ELSA. Also caught that the ops limits called for any future hours fly offs to be at original build location in another state. I didn’t have to do a thing. They prepared the paperwork, and to my great surprise, hand delivered a new cert and ops limits to my house!

Actually, I have never had a bad experience with the FSDO. Or a bad experience with the FAA for that matter. I probably shouldn’t make it sound so surprising LOL.

Dave, great video. I have one request: I am an "older" pilot who was trained in the methods that you showed for Vₓ and Vᵧ takeoffs, but I have watched a number of pilots who go flaps *up* until they reach lift-off speed and *then* add the flaps. Their logic(?) is that you attain lift-off speed more quickly and then "pop" off the runway with the flaps. I would be interested if you could do a side-by-side comparison of the two techniques to verify or dispute their claim.

I have heard of that too, and I can see how it would help with early acceleration to not have the flaps down at a point where they’re essentially just drag. I’m not sure I can duplicate it in an RV 12, especially with just me in it, because it happens so quickly. I do think it would have to be a plane that has manual flaps. The flaps on the Cessna 182, for example, are glacially slow to extend or retract. I can give it a try someday, maybe the next time I go to the grass runway at Mount Victory and have the added weight of a passenger.

When the frequency of the static changes with the RPM, then you know it's noise from the engine. Do you get the same screechiness when the engine is off? You commented that it got worse while you were taxiing... That is because the RPM was higher. I imagine the engine or the alternator is not grounded very well. Just my 2 cents. The sound is also in the video quite loud, so it's bleeding everywhere into anything it can.

Get a handheld radio. They are not that expensive

I have one now. I tested it with the tower and it has just enough range to get back into the class D which is all I really need. I’m considering adding another antenna on the belly to increase the range, but I’m not sure it’s worth it.

your fuel levels were mismatched... (just sayin...) The reason that my engine usually doesn't start is cuz I forgot to energize the Lanes (don't ask...)>>> Actually, I test the oil system integrity and pressurize the system after an oil change by running the starter with the lanes de-energized for 10-15 seconds before getting full pressure/ [[yes, CPS did send me a defective filter which attempted to coat the hangar in the black gooey stuff after a change, so I now religiously test the system after each change]]. My oil pressure also jumps around (usually +/- 1 psi from a steady 63). Think it might be the sensor. Ask Amazon if they might have a refurbished SL40 for trade. {{ "item 10 is no longer valid." Oh No!! Not approved for IFR, Night VFR, or (heaven forbid) Day VFR :-D }}

To be honest, I never look at the Skyview fuel gauge for anything more than a broad approximation. I trust the mechanical gauge far more. The Skyview gauge is good on cross country flights, but those always start with a full tank.

I don’t know how they measure them, but mine is about 10 inches diagonally.
