Trying out new offset disc

Still too wet but couldn't wait to try out my new to me offset disc. Bush Hog 145 7' offset mid 1980's vintage. Works as good as a new one(now), Old JD 2030,1970's vintage, that I have weighted up to close to 10,000 pounds pulled it more than fine. I'm into the tractor and disc for $8600.00: about the cost of a new disc. Do like my old equipment.Oh, a new JD farm tractor (not utility tractor) with same HP and drawbar pull as the 2030 is "only" $62,000.00.........and I'm pretty sure that new one won't be pulling hard 50 years from now.

Did a good job. The only reason I mention dual line hydraulics in the past is because 1st couldn’t get wheels off the ground so it would cut evenly and 2nd it eventually popped out my connection at the remote. Just sharing what Ive learned with single line cylinder setup, that’s all . This may not happen to you . Also letting the drawbar move independent ( side to side ) let’s the offset disk pull freely and less stress on tractor if you experience any this while running it . Glad you got the opportunity to try it out !

Scott’s Small Farming and Things . - Amos, I support everything my cousin just said. He taught me. I know this was your first time out, red paint still on the disc blades tells the story. as you learn more about the disc I think a little more ground speed is going to help improve the job the disc is doing. allowing the draw bar to float free takes the pressure of the load control shaft and lets the disc find its natural location behind the tractor. have fun Amos.. hey cousin. 😎🚜

What size disc is that offset?

7' with 18" discs.

I have a 3020 around 60HP and I’m in the same predicament as you were. Hard ass ground and I’m not wanting to moldboard. It looks like 7’ is the way to go for me. How did your tractor do with it pulling? Looked like it handled it pretty well.

@@calebbley7581 Good rears at lowered air pressure (12 PSI or so) and all the weights you can add is key.

Good to know. I’ve found one around here where I’m at in OK. I wish it was in the price range you got yours at. Like everything else these days the prices are ridiculous. It’s amazing how different things have gotten just since you posted these videos. Thank you for your reply and help.

I like to find stuff needing attention and repair to fix.Relaxing to me. Not no more: absolute junk is going for way too much. Will start again during or after the coming recession.
