After all the smack I talked about Color Analysis, I am finally giving it a go with Open Wardrobe's new color analysis service! It's definitely recommended as a guide vs strict rules, but I really wanted to play around with what colors do and don't suit me and also ways to style them (as recommended in the app)!

I agree w the analysis--that you shouldn't wear true black (next to your face). You actually have black t-shirts that look good on you, but in reality they are faded black, i.e. charcoal. The colors of shoes and even pants is not as important as the colors you wear next to your face. So having a lot of black shoes is not an issue at all.

Naw these are soft summer colors. Spring colors are more vibrant and have more yellow in them. The analysis is pegging her as neutral or cool toned which I would have to agree as she is more muted pinky and not yellowy. Her natural grow out is also a light ashy brown as opposed to golden.

I also thought she leaned more towards Spring, maybe somewhere on the edge with either Winter or Summer: I think some cooler bright, saturated colours look really good on Alexa, which might be because of the bleached hair. Also, I think she looks great in pastels which are saturated colors that are lightened (as in mixed with white) as to muted colours which are deluted, toned down (as in mixed with grey). When she pulls out an item with deep or muted autumn colours they're nice but it doesn't pop. Some contrast and/or brightness work better for her in my opinion. Anyway these are my two cents as someone who been to art school and looks at colours a lot and is a self-proclaimed deep-winter/autumn : ]
@karengrohs4942
@karengrohs4942 5 месяцев назад
@@dormant_informant I think the bleached hair is throwing people off to say spring. Her natural hair is ash blonde or ash light brown (cool). What does it for me is the comparison -- the muted colors make her face look better. Bright colors call attention to the color and make her face look washed out.
@lisabelw7782
@lisabelw7782 5 месяцев назад
I also thought she was a light spring because I‘m a light summer and look just like her - just in a slightly cooler shade. That would also explain why she did still look good in those softer light colors.

I did this for a column I write last year. I applied it for two months and, while I see its perks, it just isn’t worth it for me to use. The issue was I enjoy bright, saturated colors and my season (Dark Autumn) weren’t exactly what makes me happy or even my style. Also, depending on the actual season you are in the year, it could be more difficult to find certain colors in store. The one thing I will say is that it’s meant as a guide and a good analyst will tell you that as long as a color isn’t close to your face, it doesn’t matter if you use it for bottoms or shoes.

I genuinely think you look good in everything and I also think the brighter contrasting colors make you pop way more! I’ve always thought that too and then seeing it side by side I preferred the bright white, red, and black to the softer colors. Your features looked more defined and bolder and you carry them so well. 😍😍 Also I’ve heard it’s really important to go to someone in person to do the comparison of colors IRL because the photo apps can skew things and not come out as accurately. TLDR: you look amazing in everything but the brighter colors you’ve always gravitated towards make you POP 🔥

My humble opinion is that most of the tops you chose in colours close to the recommended ones were either too light or too dark (the grey was too light, the green jumper way too dark). The green velvet top you wore at the end was spot on! And don’t worry too much about the colours from the waist down. An in-person analysis also takes your personality into account so that might be a really good idea. Maybe try to find someone who doesn’t (exclusively) use the seasonal analysis. The Open Wardrobe approach seems good in that regard but ofc it’s not very in-depth.

These outfits are cute, but I like your usual style much more! I studied art and colour theory, and tried some colour analysis apps. I still think it’s mostly bogus. They have some underlying theory to it, but it’s too generalised and doesn’t apply to a lot of people. Black and white can look good on everyone. Makeup and hair colour does absolutely affect what looks better. But mostly we should wear what we like and experiment and not be so prescriptive about it.
@DrDroog29
@DrDroog29 Месяц назад
Agreed. I don’t think it’s bogus at all because I’m also a studier of color theory/I’m an artist, but I think it’s extremely limiting for most people and should be used how it is in art: you can use ANY color you want with other colors in a painting, it’s just about learning how to make the connections harmonious. But you can use any color you want!

I think the picture you uploaded on the app had a slightly cool lighting (it's most always the case if you took it near a window) and that influenced the result you got. I don't think softness (muted) is your dominant feature, maybe it's a secondary characteristic for you but I'd say lightness comes first. Also the app didn't tell you if you lean more cool or warm and that's so important, I don't know how they could let that out. Almost any season has a soft version to it but soft summer is very different to soft spring or soft autumn, you're mostly wearing soft summer colors (medium/light, muted, low contrast, cool temperature) in the video and in my opinion you're slightly warm, so maybe soft spring would have worked much better

I think color analysis is SO subjective because what looks best is based on opinion. Personally, I think the lighting in the pic you sent kind of skews your results. As someone who is genuinely muted neutral (because I’m fair olive), I think you’re a total spring. I think you nailed it when you were talking about how other colors aren’t bad it just changes your impact. EDIT: maybe you are muted??? I’m looking at all your thumb nails and I think you might be olive too? Olives notoriously don’t fit color seasons, but tend to fall under muted depths.

They listed "others notice your clothes before they see your face" as a negative, and I don't really think it's a bad thing. It's more like what you're ainimg for with your look. If you want to put an empahsis on your outfit, a contrasting look might make people focus on that more. If you want your features to be the main focus, then softer and more harmonious colors might be better. I generally get the point of color analysis, but I've alwasy been super against the whole "do this, not that" mentality that goes with it. Different colors do have different effects on the way you look, but I don't necessarily think one is better than the other for all people. It all depends on what you're trying to convey with your image. For example, looking pale might be a big no for some people, but others would actually want to acheive a paler look. So the first group would go for tones that make them look less pale, and the second- for ones that do emphasize paleness. Or as I said earlier, maybe you DO want the main focus point to be your outfit instead of your facial features. And then there's the whole debate around personal preference. For me, I've always prefered to wear colors that FEEL like me and match my personal vibe, rather than ones that just flatter my outside appearance. I see fashion as a reflection of your inner self. Something that's uniquely yours you're showing to the world. Now someone else might think of it more as a tool to accentuate the features they have. And that's totally valid, I think that's the group that would benefit the most from these color analysis type of services. It just comes down to what your personal wants and needs are. I do wish, however, that the whole thing was done in a less judgemental way, and more in a "this color has this effect, that color has that effect, feel free to choose what works for you" type of way. Beepworld has a great video on this topic that I highly recommend.

The brown mascara is the Elf Big Mood Mega Volume & Lifting Mascara (on bottom and top) and the black mascara is Rare Beauty's Perfect Strokes mascara on the top & on the bottom lashes is Hourglass's Unlocked Instant Extensions Lengthening Mascara ❤️❤️❤️❤️

I would so do an online or in person analysis instead of an app. AI can do a lot, but not everything and I think a real person might do a better job 😇 love the outfits though

great video! i'm glad your attitude about it was that it can help you appreciate some of your clothes more, not make you stop wearing clothes you actually like. cus really, who cares if it's "flattering" lol, i feel like we shouldn't just be trying to make ourselves flattering. but everything you tried on does look super great on you!!

You look amazing in all colors. Seasonal color analysis seems to be a marketing scheme that preys on people's desire to label and file themselves away as a type. It's a fun, light-hearted thing to do, but people shouldn't change their entire wardrobe because of it. It would be no different than allowing mbti type to determine who you date.

Oh. The turtleneck with the 70s style Levis looked SO GOOD! And that green velvet top on you was gorgeous.

Idk. With the 2 white tones I really saw the difference, that the not so white white 😅looked better. But then I thout red and black suited you better than purple and grey 🤷🏻‍♀️😅

Thank you for a great video ❤️Not that I think the offered colors look bad on you, but I’m kind of sure that you are 100% spring. Light, clear, warm colors look amazing on you, making your eye pop and bringing the gold from your hair. Every time I watch your videos I think of that. Even the Strawberry t-shirt (white with bright colors) and the red scrunchie make you look radiant! I just think this is a clear example of how one still picture is not enough to determine someone’s color season. Also, wanted to mention that after many years of learning about the color analysis, I came to a realization that it doesn’t really matter so much, as it all depends on how we style our clothes and of course the make up.

I must be colourblind to undertones because I don't see much difference 😅 But also I think colour analysis is mostly bs

There’s a few thing she said was a color I just couldn’t see. It might just be her camera and lighting though.

Hi, Bright Spring here! It’s so hard to be objective about ourselves for color analysis, but from my end it’s so clear how soft you are! Your contrast is definitely low-medium, and my thought is that you are probably a Soft Autumn, which would mean you can borrow some colors from Soft Summer (why grays still look pretty good on you) and colors from deep autumn (why that turtleneck looks so great on you!) You can also see when you compare that red top with that light purpley floral top - as cool as that red top is the brightness of it is just a little toooo much on you… but I also once had platinum blond hair which goes more with those types of bright colors! It looks like you’re growing out your hair which is a beautiful color. Those are all just my guesses! Either way, wear what makes you feel good, but very cool seeing all these colors in comparison on you!

The brown mascara is stunning on you! Youd prob look great with a burgundy mascara too. I miss the 00s-early 10s when every makeup company did colored mascara. I had a lavender grey limited edition Givenchy mascara that made my hazel green eyes pop. Wish the trend would come back. Makeup companies are so boring now and just do the same copy paste lip plumping bs.

I did this back in thee 80s and I gravitated to colors that I look good in. I do have things that aren't "my colors" I just try to not wear them next to my face.

The approach you took with this was very smart. You’ve taken the suggestions you like, implemented them in a way that stays true to you, and didn’t let anything dictate your style. 👍👍😊 I have to say that brown mascara really does look so nice on you! It matches your eyebrows perfectly and makes it look like your lashes are naturally that long! 😻 Also, for ages I have been meaning to comment and say that I happened to see the footwear advertisement you were in! I actually saw it here on RU-vid as an ad during someone else’s video! (I was like, HEY! It’s Alexa!!😄) It had to have been at least a month ago by now (before you made a quick mention of it in a past video!), but I kept forgetting to comment about it. Just wanted to say congrats on the opportunity, and I think you did an amazing job with it!!! 🤗👏

The one thing it seemed to do for you was elevate your outfit looks maybe that’s why you felt more corporate. But I think as you start incorporating it you will pull more playful.

I'm passionate about color analysis, so i personally can tell when people aren't in their colors. However, the fun part of fashion is wearing whatever we want! I constantly dress outside my season - being a soft autumn who loves black, white, and red.

One of my fave color combos is navy blue and rust. I’ve gravitated toward navy blue as I got older as an alternative to black. I also love charcoal gray. When I wear black, I feel so washed out. A classic black turtleneck is always in style and always complimentary though IMO.

I am dying to know where those high waisted wide leg jeans are from... exactly what I've been looking for and they look so good on you!! Would you be able to tell me what they're called? They look like Levi's but I wasn't sure! Sorry if you've answered this already!

First off I love your videos and personality but that being said our styles are so different, I am a plain dresser and never experiment with styles like you do. In your previous outfit videos I love to see you have fun trying new new things but I don’t always think they go but I chalk it up to having different styles but TODAY, I felt, every outfit looked amazing and just went. I loved every outfit you tried. I really hope my comment reads complimentary and not rude, because I really do enjoy all of your videos

I think all outfits looked good on you, except the oversized black tee with the plaid skirt. It was too much black and too much fabric, it swallowed you. You can pull of more contrast than is in your recommendations, because you are tanned and wear makeup. Your regular wardrobe suits you also well!

My initial reaction was tha analysis is wrong, but you do look so much more organic in the suggested pallet. Bright looks good on you, but kinda takes attention away from your face
