Whoever used the X100 as I do not use it again, is either on the shelf in the living room or sold it ... it's an excellent camera for those who don't know the S, T, F or V The best series ever !!! Excelent vídeo !!!
Thanks. I know technically the other cameras in the series are probably better (and much more expensive) but I am more interested in the look and feel of the images that come from the bayer sensor in this camera. I imagine that the handling in terms of the OVF and leaf shutter are going to be the same on all the cameras in the series.
Hi Chris. Thanks for this interesting set of comparisons. For the majority of the out-of-camera shots, I really preferred the Fuji images. There’s definitely more ‘armosphere’ in the X100 colour renditions (just my personal opinion). I think I’ll try to find an old X series ‘compact’ and give it a go.
Hi, thanks for your comments. That’s what I tried and moved onto next (the Fuji x-e1) although I do miss the x100 a little bit as it was such a fun camera to use.
Hi Chris! Thanks for this video! I thought I am the biggest X100 fanboy (actually I am owning mine since 2011 and right now I am working on a video about it) but I love the PEN F's output. Looking forward to watching new videos. Subscribed :)
@@ChrisEdgecombePhoto Personally I think the Pen F colors are better. Maybe the film like qualities of the X100 are more more obvious when you’re viewing the full sized images?
@@alondusk33 You are a couple of videos behind my current 'journey' in trying out different/older cameras - I have actually found the X-E1 to be much better than the X100 unfortunately. I say unfortunately, as the X100 was such a joy to use.
I have to agree with you. I felt the color coming out of the Pen F was better than the X100, at least to my taste. I do hear what Chris is saying about there being a more organic look to the X100 files though.
@@ChrisEdgecombePhoto - I'm going to watch your X-E1/X100 comparison video next. Too bad you sold the Pen F. It could have been an interesting comparison between the X-E1 and the Pen F too, maybe.
I honestly don't care that much about the "film simulation" presets, because I like do fiddle around with color, white balance, contrast etc. in post anyway. But yeah, it can be very convenient to get a "perfect" jpg right out of camera - if the preset works well. I owned the Fuji XPro-2 for a while and I have to admit those film simulations were great looking.
Id like to get into a position where I don't edit 80% of my photos but I don't think I'm there with the x100, Capture One does seem to do a better job with the RAW files (than the SOOC jpegs) from the old Fuji.
I use the x100s and xpro1, among a slew of other cameras, and on the occasions where I look back over older photos the ones that catch myself are almost ALWAYS the x100s and xpro1 shots. And I just can’t put my finger on why.
They have something special for sure, after this video I went on to try the X-E1 which I preferred and am now contemplating an X-Pro1... Thanks for watching and commenting.
I agree in thats easier/you have more control over the monochrome settings that it applies but I don't think the images are as good/organic as the X-E1 and as I will say in an upcoming Vlog, I rarely use the Pen-F files SOOC and tend to use SIlver Efex Pro 2 for all my monochrome conversion photography. Thanks for the comments, glad you enjoyed the video.
@@ChrisEdgecombePhoto I only shoot JPGs with the Pen-F. Try cyan and magenta as filters for your Pen-F monochrome shots… play with the intensity, less for the former and more for the later. I don’t think any other camera has those monochrome filters…
@@ChrisEdgecombePhoto Silver Effexor Pro 2… is that a stand-alone app or a plug-in only? I use Apple Photos as my photo editor… I do very little tweaking to my images, more cropping than anything else. Apple Photos has more tweaks than I need.
I use my X100 only for bw, you should try that. I like the CTransI for it‘s colors, in my case a X-E1 (no X100 version with that sensor, only X-Pro1, X-M1 or X-E1). I like to have cameras where each has a specific task.
I think the X-M1 has a different processor so its just the X-Pro1 and X-E1 which have the same sensor/processor combination of note. As my previous comment to you, thanks for pointing out about the B&W modes on the X100; I'll definately give them ago and compared them to that of the X-E1.
@@valdiskrebs566 I absolutely agree with this, I took it out today and used it vs the X100 (both using monochrome +R simulations) for an upcoming Vlog and the X-E1 hands down produces the better monochrome images IMO.
Junk camera 😲, its funny, I often think the same about other places being photogenic but I do feel lucky at times to live where I live....although it would be nice to visit more foreign photogenic places in the future. Thanks for watching and commenting.
@@ChrisEdgecombePhoto I visited England a few years back...and almost every evening there was a sunset that was right out of a fantasy movie. You'll never see that in Canada or in Japan where I live now.
@@thesocialartsclub9095 I guess its because we have 'weather' rather than a climate? It works both ways though in that for every nice sunset/sunrise, we have lots of overcast/rainy dull days as well (probably more of the latter). Id love to visit Japan...
Just bought one yesterday.... Does look nice so far... Optical view finder is amazing... Use both ... I've shot a trillion lol shots on a d200 so I know what you mean. It struggles in a lot of lower light situations, but the CCD looks much nicer than the D300 which I had too ... Can't wait to do more with the x100 once the barrow load of batteries arrive.... Sony crap on batteries, omd em5 the same lol ... Lumix gx80 not much better ... Remember when batteries lasted a week!? Haha So not bothered by the x100 being rubbish too ... One of those things... Hopefully this will be fun camera...
I still have and use the original X100. I really like it now as a black and white camera. I think it excels for that use. I'm not always crazy about the colours from it but black and white is terrific.
I did another vlog looking at the monochrome performance vs the x-e1 and thought that the x-e1 edged it for both mono and colour images; the feel of the camera was great though. Thanks for watching.
kind of interesting that there are so many noobs speaking crap about why one should be using the original X100 in 2021 whatever , I bought mine in 2011 with an exact knowledge of what i wanted to use to it for ! and it has fulfilled that purpose for me excellently ever since, a far more appropriate equirey should be, if you have the original X100 why waste money buying the S, t, ,v whatever variants,. Ok i ve just had this camera for like 2 weeks and think its great, dont work. just saying
Thanks, I was new to Fuji at this point so thought my experiences with the x100 may have helped others with their decision making if they were considering one. Also, in total I had this camera for 5 months before deciding that I preferred the results from the X-E1 but I do miss the form factor and fun of the original x100. I also hate those vloggers that barely have these cameras for long before making videos but I don't believe that I fall into that category barring my video I did on the Canon 5d but I plan on getting and trying that camera again in the near future.
Another good interesting video I think some of the older digital cameras do produce some good colours in jpeg I sometimes use a Konica minolta 7D it only as 6 megapixel a bit limited when it comes to cropping, the design of the camera the controls come my Minolta Dynax 7 35mm film camera I use, I watched one of your earlier videos on developing 120 film I have never developed film before and your video was great,so I had a go developing 120 colour and 35mm colour film they came out ok so thanks to your video it's got me interested in developing my own film now so keep up the good videos and the good photos
Thank you very much for your kind comments and I'm glad that it has helped to inspire your photography endeavours. I haven't yet tried colour film developing, did you do this in the Lab Box?
Hi Chris I did not use a lab box I used a couple of old Agfa rondinax developing box one for the 35mm and Rondinax 60 for the 120 film I was not sure how it would turn out with trying to keep the right temperature but it worked well your video gave me the confidence to give it a try thanks
