So in a care setting, we refer to the different levels of thickness as nectar, honey, applesauce, and pudding. The initial cup was definitely applesauce verging on pudding thick, not honey. My residents have told me it's better in cold things than hot, but it's much harder to mix in cold things. I always recommend mixing it using a fork, just to keep it from being lumpy. And I know Evan kinda liked it, but there's a reason we don't use Thick It in regular cooking😅

I used thick it for a person I worked with who had dementia. She was pretty far gone and mostly just stared off into space or slumped over herself. But I misjudged that stuff and tried to give her a drink of thickened juice and it was so thick it didn't even slide down the side of the cup and she burst out laughing hysterically at me. Thick beverages are my dream! 🤩 You know when you are little and not yet allowed coffee and it seems the greatest thing ever? I didn't scroll very far through the comments to see if anyone mentioned the reasons behind its uses in a healthcare setting, but I've seen it mainly used for those with some sort of swallowing problem. E.g. mouth or throat cancers, muscle tone issues, sensory issues, development delays, post-surgery for healing. It's a wonderful product for safety but none of my patients have enjoyed it in anything except desserts or the occasional cold drink. Flavour plays a huge factor too.

I think Katelyn's extra thick coffee is what it was supposed to be based off of the instructions. You guys accidentally said 5.5+5.5=9, instead of 11. Maybe the first one was weird because it was at a "between" texture that wasn't recommended. It might be cool to try this with a sugary, extra flavored milk and see if you can make an "ice cream" that can't give you a brain freeze.

The first coffee was much thicker than what we would consider "honey" consistency in the hospital -- it was closer to the next level, which is sometimes called "pudding" consistency. I think their scoops were a little generous, plus they used the amount intended for skim milk -- but they were putting it into a mixture of coffee, whole milk, and a non-dairy milk that already contains thickeners. All of those require LESS thickener than skim milk, so they really used way too much.
@soniccookie655
@soniccookie655 Год назад
I had a dream once about this powder you mix with milk to make an “ice cream” (I think there was a slushie version too?) without freezing. It had thickener(s), I think powdered milk, stuff like that. I’ve been wanting it ever since. It had a weird texture but in a good way.
@JordanSugarman
@JordanSugarman Год назад
"It might be cool to try this with a sugary, extra flavored milk" You would be making instant pudding. Modified corn starch is exactly what they use to make instant pudding thick. Ice cream has the texture it has because of tiny ice crystals that melt as you eat it. You don't get ice cream by just making milk a thicker consistency.

After seeing the title I assumed it was another of Katelyn's cursed ideas. I think you should try making thick water. I wonder if you could then taste the powder because water doesn't really have a flavor or if it would just be really cursed? You should also try a selection of thick sodas. Yum.

I swear some coffee people ( and also tea people) can be so hostile sometimes. I love going on Tiktok to watch people make their preferred coffee drink and people are sometimes up in arms if the coffee isn't just straight hot bitter bean juice that's brewed dark as the abyss...
@DannyDevitoOffical-TrustMeBro
@@lacytaylor1501 I remember a friend of mine made fun of me for getting the most out of my k-cup, which made it watery. It being watery also made it turn really light when I poured in the half-and-half, even though I really don’t use much. She’s one of those “I drink it black” snobs, and thought it was some kind of laughing moment when I used enough milk in watery coffee to make it light. However, she likes to drink the nasty coffee offered at her church that was brewed sloppily with cheap coffee and left to sit for hours on a countertop after service, so I really don’t feel that bad about my watery k-cup.

It reminds me of people who only drink beer and go off on people who drink more colorful and fruity drinks, like good for you and your case of mildly alcoholic grass juice, I'mma be plastered with like three of these amazing tasting drinks. Mostly because I use a lot of cream/sugary creamer/powdered creamer in mine now. When I even drink it. Usually I just drink a diet coke in the mornings. Not sure which is healthier diet coke or sugary coffee. I really should just switch to water but I get cranky without my diet coke. Or at least that's what I tell people.

Soda aside, congrats, you have literally just reinvented tapioca pudding and "condensed" soup, both of which are primarily thickened with some kind of starch. But that's not a reason to not do it. It's probably extra reason to yes, absolutely do it, whether with this or just with some other starch products. Especially the first one. I think you'd want more tapioca pearls than they'll give you, but a matcha or black tea tapioca pudding sounds amazing.

Basically, when you put instant coffee / hot chocolate in hot water and stir and then tap the bottom of you mug with a spoon (inside), at regular intervals, the pitch of the sound slowly increases. I think it's because of air bubbles created by mixing powder and hot water. I love doing that in the morning with my coffee ! It reminds me of Shepard's tone and tickles my brain haha
