I feel that. As cool as it is to see a bunch of super cars or high end german sports cars. They can probably afford a Lambo like so many other youtubers, but I much prefer to see a day in and out of guys like marty and moog working on things like this up, or a polo, gti, civic, etc etc you name it. just cars the majority of us can truly enjoy because they're within our grasp.

These small guys are literally everywhere in (Northern) Europe. So cool to finally see some work done on "cars people can afford". JDMs are epic and all, but the prices are so high. Says the bloke driving a Volvo V40 D2 (1.6 PSA diesel).

The same 1.6 PSA diesel are in the Berlingo and Foucs. I've a Berlingo Multispace with the 1.6 and its just rolled over 318k miles

Half the reason MCM has been doing JDM cars so long is because in places like Australia and NZ, its the Japanese cars that have always been the cheap and affordable ones, and the Euros have always been much more expensive.

Here in the UK, where used cars as usually dirt cheap compared to pretty much anywhere else, a 2013 Up! with 50k miles (70k kms) and 3 doors is about £4500. Moog paid just under £4000 in AUS dollars. That's pretty surprising. If you've bought an Up! I don't think you'd have buyers remorse getting one of these if you need a 'classless' city car.

Owned a High Up! TSi for about 2 years. It was one of the most ridiculous little cars I've driven. Had a bunch of torque (for a 1L) ideally suited for spinning one wheel at a time due to its lack of weight. Surprisingly comfortable and an absolute hoot. Sometimes I still miss the little "Savanna Gold" shoe box, was good on fuel too!

Yeew, stoked for this. My Fiance and I had one of these in Portugal as a rental car when we were travelling. I love the lotus-esque doors with exposed sheetmetal and just infil doorcards, for a 1L Manual they are incredibly fun to throw around twisty roads and feel just like a little go-kart!

These cars are so awesome! I had a Seat Mii as my first car which is basically exactly the same as this and i loved it. Only downside to them is traction control you can't switch off, however if you pull the handbrake while you're driving it disengages abs and traction control meaning you can go out and do mad skids

I've been considering one of those. I guess now there will be an MCM tax... :) I look forward to see what you do with those 3 cylinders of 1L fury! The centre bore of the 4x100 rims is 57.1, so you'll need wheels with a Centre Bore of that or larger. You should be able to go to 6.5" 17's without any issue. There is an electric version and a GTi version (that just has fancy wheels and styling) available in the UK and Europe.

YES! This is where it's at! Marnit's tensy Daihatsu obsessions, the Super-Turbs... super simple, functionable, A to B, bean counter wet dream, shopping trolleys made fun. tbh, next move is Mmmbop goes similar JPN modern (MyRage, Sirion...?), then over the years ahead have lil tête-à-tête's. There's plenty of option's on the floor still around from FIAT and Alfa, to Hyundai and Kia.... Just a rolling jousting of initially joyless

Hey Moog, great car! I bought one of these (also a 3 door) last year. I bet you will have a flashing auto emergency braking light on the dash when you drive it, because its cover (at the rear view mirror) has come loose from the window, which obscures its view. I just wanted to let you know and its an easy fix. Looking forward to this series!

So stoked to see how this build turns out! I currently have the rebadged version of the 5 door (Skoda Citigo) which is the electric variant, and there are only around 100 in the uk. Best thing about it is the electric variant has a 0-30mph is 2 seconds, so it chops virtually anything off the line 😂! It’s coming off lease in July and will be around £15k to buy out, so I am really interested to see how much faster you can make the standard petrol version.

We bought a 2016 Up! Beats Audio in May 2020 with only 24k on the clock & absolutely love it. It's great to drive on mountain roads. What it lacks in power it makes up for in fun factor....😁

I always found the power weight size combination of these smaller "rabbit like" vw interesting. Especially since golf's are gigantic compared to where it started.

A year ago I had red 3 door Skoda Citigo with massive 44kw for a loan for three months. Drove about 10k km in that time and it was actually really good car for city use. After using it, and returning to own, normal sized car, finding parking spaces where you can easylly fit, was bit more challenging. :D Oh. And because the car is so narrow, there is no passenger window switch on drivers door. You can reach the switch on the passenger door, from drivers seat with small effort. :D

Nice find! My brother has one of these 2 door up's in the same colour, we're in the UK and he had it imported from Japan with a some extras you couldn't spec on one in the UK, so you can absolutely have a jdm-gdm up!

Man these cars are FUN to drive! We had one as a rental once and I wasn't expecting much, but this Up, I freaking loved it. Couldn't get over how much it drove like a proper 80s/90s Golf but with modern build quality, without feeling heavy or bland. Even the little 3 cylinder petrol engine sounded so, so fun! It even had manual crank windows lol

Yup, '5 door', '3 door' versions. Some markets have the turbocharged version or even a full fat GTI version. Even rarer are the obscure ones such as the 'dual fuel' ones that run on LPG with a tiny petrol tank too (German & Brazilian markets I think). And even rarer are the van versions... yes... van versions (I only saw them in the German market). Oh, and then there's the electric one too (but that was never very cost effective as it pretty much was the same price as a higher spec VW Polo).

@@SKYWURX I could be mistaken, but I remember reading somewhere that the Brazilian Up is slightly longer than the European up (extra length is at the rear of the car). I also remember seeing the tailgate being colour coded, which looks a bit weird when you're used to the black glass tailgate.

I’m a 5th year Vet student and I have this exact Up model (except a 14 plate car) as my practical car for travelling around the UK this year, as well as an Integra DC5 type R (fun car). This video is amazing, I am so excited for what is to come, I feel a pimp my Up is in the future for me because of this 😂. Great video as always guys!!

Yeah but different models...If you filter to the same spec and age i.e the Take Up! around 2012/2013 it is actually bout 40 for sale in UK. Most here are more money that theirs so they did OK over there.

Nice choice. My brother has the Skoda version of the up! (Citigo monte carlo). They drive really well and pretty solid and are pretty easy to modify and make look good.

That makes me happy, Much love for VW's smallest car, I'm on my 3rd Up!, I've had 2 75 hp ones and now I have a GTI, the latter is one of the most fun cars I've driven, not the fastest but it's just fun. Is this one a 60 or a 75 hp one? looking forward to more episodes on this one.

Damn I had a VW up for my first car. It's a fun little cart, 60 bhp you can floor it and barely get up to motorway speeds but has great chassis. They also have a GTI version that makes 115hp so there is a lot of potential to work with and plenty of parts to throw in.
