Mike also another tip, as I did work in the AC industry for a bit. Just as an example if you have a digital readout of your AC temp and the lowest is 60, put it on like 63 or 64 to prevent the dryer from freezing, and use the recirculation button every now and then, for colder air. The system works with less stress if you recirculate the air already inside the cab. Also after a while if you have 3 to 4 selector settings for the fan, the lower the colder. Especially for a moving car.

I kept shouting at the screen for you to clean the condenser coil. You finally heard me toward the end. I feel much better now because I'm a retired a/c tech.

I was thinking replace heater core while it was apart. My luck this winter I would be putting heater core in it and lose my freon.

Pulling stuff apart is easy, but putting it back the right way is something else. Top job Mike, big fat thumbs up!

The purpose of that top hole Mike. Is to add a chemical and biological air filter. The issue is you now have no pre-filter. To filter dirt out prior to air coming in to the fans. May I suggest getting a round filter and housing off of an old semi. This can be mounted on top. If it doesn't cause clearance issues. If it does simply pipe it and place elsewhere. Doing this will keep your entire system much cleaner. Less maintenance. God bless

That's where ours went. Well, the governments, anyway. I was told by another commenter it's for a snorkel, but I'm not familiar with that. Our cab NBC filter was mounted to the roof, and believe it or not, even the engine intake had its own system as well. Most equipment today comes with positive pressure HVAC systems, but for older equipment that didn't, wow does it make a difference. With the CBRN filter, (CBRN now. It was NBC) and positive pressure, I swear to pete that air was the cleanest I've ever breathed, lol. And since the cab was pressurized, you could run through a dust storm and come out the other side as clean as you went in it. The electronics would last forever pretty much. Especially switches.
@thomasdesmond2248
@thomasdesmond2248 2 года назад
@@pamike4873 you are correct. The snorkel was completely incorrect. A snorkel would only be for the engine. It would never be connected to HVAC. Also a snorkel would be useless being higher than the exhaust. Water would simply come in the exhaust. Yes the pressurized systems are great. God bless
@JasonGunn418
@JasonGunn418 4 месяца назад
Both of you are WRONG, if it were for a biological air filter, this system would be totally sealed off, and you would see a ton of rubber seals around the unit. It could not be for a snorkel as it doesn't need to be sealed from moisture or being submerged. If you take a picture of the section he removed and google it it was used for Waste management dozers to help with cleaner air into the system to reduce the dust and dirt. Sometimes you guys really go off the deep end with your BS, and probably never served a day in the military. NBC systems are totally seal with all kinds of spray seal and rubber, a dead giveaway, if you ever served.

You are much more gracious and forgiving with the seller than I would be. The truth is they are crooked liars. When a used equipment seller states “We ran it through our service department” everyone assumes they mean they have found and fixed the obvious flaws. Hopefully your experience will persuade others to steer clear of them.

I know this much about ac work. Im a residential repair man for ac and if your coil inside is that dirty its a very good chance your compressor may have issues from overheating it. Obviously that poor machine was not ever properly maintained and by looking at the ac system it has been in the desert atleast half of its life

Not sure if it was military or not, but whoever ran it in the coal environment put that external air filter on the AC unit....then apparently didn't keep it maintained, based on how bad that unit is packed with coal dust. That can be a problem as coal dust mixed with water is acidic. You can see evidence of that in all the JD yellow areas that weren't painted, and around that filter inlet fitting they installed that are all corroded and the paint lifted. IMO, I would try to steam clean out every nook and cranny of that machine, under every cover, etc... to get all of that out of there, especially inside of the cab. You do NOT want to be breathing coal dust that is blowing around via the ventilation system. All that said, looking forward to seeing Sgt. Slaughter bringing the violence to some dirt once it gets back from C&C.

Many times at many military bases & installations, CIVILIANS are hired to perform work with equipment such as this. I would say this machine had a decent life based on how it runs and what DP checked out prior to purchase. PLUS, if solely military the thing would have been subjected to INSPECTION and much of the poor maintenance caught and not allowed. DP did WELL for himself!

I just never got into the refrigeration portion of things in my day as I don't remember seeing even a place for it one the rigs... washington and alaska being my states of mechanicing, and even owning big rigs in the late eighties never had air on them... it would of been welcome though. Kinda missed MBTS not being there bantering with you. He's always a hoot to listen to with his gruff Master Sergeant's voice on that teeny tiny frame. Spoke to soon. At least this is the way the Army has it. The soldier who would operate this dozer would do PMCS or Pre Maintenance Checks & Services usually on a Monday and by the operators manual check ever but of the machine and if there are problems maintenance would work work on it but AC is not high on the list to fix nor cleaning good

I remember back in the mid-1980s working as an Auto Mechanic at a local gas station. We would order a lot of parts from a guy we called "Ronnie Wrong Parts," because no matter how specific we were with the parts numbers, he or one of his delivery guys showed up with the wrong part. It got so bad that we would order the part from him (because his store was very close)and another auto parts dealer at the same time and we would tell Ronnie this and that we would buy the parts from the one that got there with the correct parts first. The funny part about that is that he would make it there first most of the time but still with the wrong part.
