Here is your interesting idioms 👇😁 You're welcome 1-Sinek avlamak: Boş oturmak, bir iş yapmamak / doing nothing (we use this idiom when you have no customer) sinek = fly (animal) avlamak = hunting 2-Dut yemiş bülbüle dönmek: Önceleri susmasını bilmezken birden sesi çıkmaz olmak/ you can use this idiom when someone suddenly become quite but normally she/he is too talkative Dut = mulberry bülbül= nightingale (turn in to a nightingale which ate mullbery) my English wasn't enough for this one l hope you understand🙂😅 3-Eşek şakası: Kaba, kırıcı şaka/ mean rude joke Eşek= donkey şaka= joke 4-Eşek sıpası= baby donkey/foal as google said genellikle genç erkeklere sövgü ya da okşama sözü olarak söylenir. we use this one in a swearing or petting boys, adults use this but it sounds so bad in English 🤷😆🤭 l don't know how to explain it without being ridiculous 5-Kuş uçmaz, kervan geçmez: Kimsenin uğramadığı ıssız, sapa yer. The bird does not fly, the kervan* does not pass: A desolate place where no one comes Kervan = closest definition is a tipe of train,line with camels/horses 6- pireyi deve yapmak = exaggerate make a mountain of a molehill Pire = Flea , Deve = Camel 7-Turnayı gözünden vurmak = Değeri yüksek bir şeyi kazanmak/earn something valuable Hit the crane from its eye Turna= crane 8-Keçileri kaçırmak: Delirmek, dengesi bozulmak, bunalım içine düşmek, kafayı üşütmek / become crazy Keçi = 🐐 to lose goats 9-tatlı söz yılanı deliğinden çıkarır = sweet word pulls the snake out of its hole 😅 it means something like "kindness opens all the doors" Yılan = 🐍 And the last but not least ( l've always wanted to use last but not least) 10- azimli sıçan duvarı deler = faith will move mountains but this one isn't too sweat like the English equivalent. Sıçan = rat, azimli = determined Determined rat digs the wall but sıçan word also reminds us something else so don't use this one that much have a nice day 👋

Thank you for all of these idioms. I really like #9 and #10. #9 is like the english idiom "you can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar"

@@josilijo6137 oh l didn't know that idiom thank you and vinegar reminds me an other idiom "keskin sirke küpüne zarar" a bad behavior/person harms its self most sirke = vinegar and also there is an other one bedava sirke baldan tatlıdır = free vinegar is sweeter than honey masrafsız ve emeksiz elde edilen şeyler insana hoş gelir.

I noticed a lot of Turkish culture references in hindsight. I first read the books in elementary school and i always wondered what Turkish delight was. I never thought that i would live in Turkey and get to try it for myself.

'Like a horse' may be taken from the past nomad culture of Turk tribes. This phrase is not used for tiny and cute woman. You know when you are a part of a nomad tribe in a steppe environment, horses are really important for you. And if you see a strong and beautiful woman, usage of it makes a little sense. It's not a polite way of complimenting though. There are also phrases like 'a woman like a state' or 'a woman like a government' similar usages for strong woman.

A woman with long legs and big ass is the woman like a horse. I agree with you, it is not used for tiny women. For example; Asuman Krause

I thought americans had a saying like "at gibi". I've heard Obie Trice say "body like a stallion" on Eminem - Drips
@josilijo6137
@josilijo6137 3 года назад
It is actually funny the way Obie uses this. He does say "body like a stallion" when he is referring to a girl. However a stallion is a male horse used for breeding. So his reference sounds good because it follows "French roll stylin'" and stylin' rhymes with stallion, but is kinda ridiculous because he is comparing a females body to a male horses body. Rap can bend words to paint a picture but you cannot apply everything rap says to normal day to day speech. Great comment though I never realized the reference in the song or thought about it so thank you😊

@@josilijo6137 Hey man! thanks for replying. Both Eminem and Obie are very talented rappers indeed, also thanks to you, I now know what a stallion is. I thought it was a fancier way to say horse LOL. So I guess in a way, it's like cows and bulls.

Hey man! At gibi (like a horse) mean in English "Chick" u know what i mean. Damn she's too hot. So the American's sayin chick for her. Am i right? Also my English not so good but im trying to say for "at gibi" meaning. I hope i explained and don't say that any womans face directly in the street. Hahaha. You can say it quitely when talking in ur among of friends. This word using like this.
@josilijo6137
@josilijo6137 3 года назад
Chick can mean pretty girl or just girl depending on the context. Most of the time it is the girl equivalent for dude. Chick by itself is not a compliment. I love the comment and I enjoy talking about stuff like this.😊
@oykugul5924
@oykugul5924 3 года назад
actually it is kind of a rude saying that "at gibi kız" dsdsd. it is kind of a men's language. talking with your friend, you see a girl that is very beautiful you can say "hey look, girl like a horse" but if you say this to a girl, she can curse you.
