Check out the bolt demo we made at IMTS 2022!
The process uses Swiss mode on Path 1 and Path 3 to face and pilot drill/bore the bar, prepping for the long drills on the sub spindle. Once the long drill and form tool are completed, the machine pinch rough turns utilizing Path 1 and Path 3. When the part is rough turned, the machine leaves the stock parked out of the guide bushing and finish turns with Z3 independently to help with concentricity. Once the turning is completed, all of the milling is performed.
This model has 2 - three position live attachments on Path 3 to add two extra milling stations to the machine to accommodate all of the part features. Once the long drills are completed on the main side, the sub spindle rough and finish turns, as well as, drills an offset hole. Then the sub spindle roughs and finish mills with a profile key cutter in a right angle attachment. Once the milling is completed, the sub spindle ejects the part into the shoot and prepares to pick up the next part, which is almost finished on the main spindle.
