Check out the latest demo from the Tsugami America Laser Lab! This widget made its debut at IMTS 2022 and showcases the Tsugami LaserSwiss capability to do more that just cut tube. This piece was made from solid barstock in one machine, with one program and features laser etching, cutting, and welding.
First, the machine utilizes conventional Swiss machining by turning the diameter and milling flats on the hexagon edge, then uses the laser to etch the new Tsugami America logo and cut the “T” feature. The remaining features on the front of the widget are milled and turned followed by a cutoff.
Next, the second half is started by drilling the ID and turning the OD. The laser comes in to cut the intricate diamond pattern followed by laser etching of “Tsugami America.” This half is finished with a cut off and machined radius.
Finally, both parts are brought together by the main and sub spindle and welded together for a complete widget!
