Thanks Larry! I have the brushed 15t motor in it now and was able to stuff some larger gearing in it so I am hopeful Ricky has one last fast run in him to get above 35. I will get back out there with him one night this week and get that final run in with him!
Heck yeah! Trying to get fast! Gonna swap in the brushless and see what we can do and then to the bigger brushless and see if it will take flight or not! I am hoping for over 70 but we will see!
Thanks Fil! It was a good test and I am glad I found the range issue before going warp speed. I did stick in a larger pinion I got in the mail yesterday evening and took it back out, it did better and I'll post that tomorrow. I also stuck in the brushless system and holy smokes.... sketchy sounding on the bench! On a storage charged 2s it sounded almost twice as fast! I am sure it is not but man those runs are gonna have some pucker factor to them!!
Congrats for the 31.1. Your 7 cell solution was very interesting for me. I already thout about it, but my Traxxas batteries don't fit. The additional cell's at the back and not on top.
Thanks Dirk! I have a few of these, this one came out of my Arrma Granite truck. The long stick packs fit in some better than these hump packs do and same that the hump packs fit better in the others. Sadly there is no good way to fit in the long stick pack in yours, too risky of it flying out and possibly damaging things!
Thanks Mark! It drove well and overall a great test. I found the range issue before we got going too fast and smashed into anything! I had a faster number in my head so the 31 was a little deflating at the time but considering the stock speed of this thing it is great increase in speed! On to the brushless systems and we can come back tot he brushed and play around if the car survives the brushless runs!
It was a good test! I need to stick the Antenna up so I don't lose signal and I need taller gears! I have some more one the way, the things look spur gears! LOL!
Howdy Addam!😃 Really grippy looking tyres Addam, I think we have the same on our HPI brushless sprint & they hook up really well. Killer body shell mate. Good battery holder too. Ricky bobby wants to go fast😂👌. Nice camera work Mrs Addam🎥🏆. 31mph was a great speed for a 1st run, congrats mate. Now for the shake n bake brushless system😁. Thanks for sharing your run mate! 👍🦘🇦🇺
Thank you! I had a higher number in my head so I was a bit deflated but it was a good first run! Thankfully I found the range issue before going really fast so that was a plus! I was going to just use rubber band for the battery holder but I found strip of thin aluminum in the garage so I made on real fast for it. Ricky Bobby does wanna go fast but we will see what the brushless runs are like, I may have to swap in the junker body to save Ricky for another day and not shred that pretty body all up! My wife is great to come out and help with this, she does pretty good on the camera. It was very hard to see anything on the display screen so she did great! Take care guys and hopefully the next run is a bit quicker!
@@AddamsPlayground Yes please protect & preserve the Ricky Bobby shell, way too good to even get bug snot on!. Your wife is a trooper, top class camera work,we're very lucky to have our girls👍. Take care mate, good luck with the brushless run!.
Oh man, I swapped that into it just a little bit ago and it is going to go a little bit faster than this... like a lot of a little bit!! LOL! It sounded rather sketchy on the bench just with a storage charged 2s pack! Should be interesting for sure on the run with it in there! I did stick in a larger pinion I got in the mails yesterday afternoon and ran it quickly earlier today with the brushed motor again, it picked up some speed. That will be out tomorrow!
LOL! I have not seen anyone run a 7 cell pack so I just wanting to make sure everyone was aware it was perfectly legal and I was not trying to cheat or anything. It was a good run but I had a higher number in my head for it so it was not what I had hoped for. I have a 15 Radon motor on the way and some pinions that look like spur gears on their way too! Either gonna go fast or make smoke! LOL!
It was a good test, found a range issue which I resolved and nothing broke so a good day! I have upgraded it to the much faster brushless motor this afternoon and it really is a ton fast with that in there! I did stick in a larger pinion gear I got in the mail yesterday after this was recorded and went back out with the brushed motor and got a better speed. That will be up tomorrow. Ricky looks good out there!
Thanks Will, it was a good test run and I am glad I found the range issue before cranking up the speed! I got the brushless in there today and will get that out soon, it sounds crazy on the bench! I did stick in a larger pinion I got in the mail yesterday after this was recorded and went back out with the brushed motor and got a better speed. That will be up tomorrow.
Thanks Keith, it was a good test run and I have to fix the range issue and I have the Reedy Radon 15t motor on its way and I have some pinion gear that look like spur gear so things should get fast quickly!!
Hey a great result for brushed Addam! I still need to look out that movie with Ricky Bobby. Funnily enough a couple of the RC chaps were talking about it today and not related to this contest. Presumably that is your missus helping out with the videoing so well done to her too. Good luck with the brushless contest my friend 😁👍
Thanks Pete! It was a great test and I am glad I found the range issue before cranking up the speed! I got the brushless in there today and will get that out soon, it sounds crazy on the bench! I did stick in a larger pinion I got in the mail yesterday after this was recorded and went back out with the brushed motor and got a better speed. That will be up tomorrow.
good runs, brushed.... that's exactly why nitro was king back in the day when they did not have brushless, I remember my nitro HPI road cars with the two speeds hitting like 50mph! can't wait to see what the brushless gets.
Very true! It was a decent start to the measured runs, I just had a higher number in my head for the 7 cell run but I didn't break anything and lot more stuff to try with it to make it faster so all is well!
You have Won anyway Addam! Best looking car in any class buddy! Looks fantastic! 31 is a decent brushes effort too! Well worth using the 8.4 l think a few have overlooked that in the rules!
Thanks James! It does look pretty awesome running around out there! I may have to swap the junker body on it for the really fast runs though, I would have to see it skittering down the parking lot on its lid shredding that body! We will see how the test run on brushless goes and make the decision then! I was really surprised nobody has dug out a 7 cell pack yet, I may be the only one with some left! LOL! Take care!
@@AddamsPlayground Yep 100% Addam that body has done its race! We are seeing some pretty ugly accidents with brushless power! Time for the other shell to come out!
Ricky Bobby did GOOD, Addam! You beat me by 0.1mph, but it still counts!!! Looking good out there with a nice straight run. Pity about the range issues making you do some exercise though! Excellent start my friend, good luck going forward! 🤞😎👍
Thanks Mark! It was a good run overall, I found the range issue which good to find now and not at 50mph! I did make another run with it today with the brushed motor in it and got the speed up some more so i am happier with that rune. I will probably post that one tomorrow. I did swap in the Castle brushless system and it really sounds sketchy fast now and that was on a storage charged 2s, it is gonna be bonkers on 3s!!! The range issue was my fault, I had the antenna laid down so low, I stuck it straight up and it ran fine today. I am not used to needing range, I am usually within 50 feet of them at all times! Take care my friend!
Yeah, it was a good first run and it drove very nice. I just had a higher number in my head but the 17t motor just didn't have the rpms for it. On to the brushless systems and see what can be done with it!
Yeah not as fast as I hoped for the 7 cell pack but a good test and I found the range issue before going too fast so that was good! on to the brushless power!
@@AddamsPlayground I dunno why every time I type GOOD, it gets changed to HOOD.. stupid ducking autocorrect 😂😂😂 We’re still waiting on parts but I may start the paint layout today..
SHake and BaKe baby nice run brother.. 26 seems stock speed great base line brother now to make it fast.. 31 definitely respectable with stock gearing.. I digg it brother..💯👍
LOL! Right on! I do have taller gearing in there so that is why I was not thrilled with the speed. I had higher number in my head but the 17 turn just doesn't have the rpms for it! On to the brushless ones now!
@@reitplace4765 Well I went back out today with the brushed again, I got the bigger pinions in the mail yesterday evening so that will be up tomorrow. It did better but it still need a faster motor. I have two different brushless motor to try, one is a Castle 4700kv with a sidewinder ESC. The other is Hobbywing system, I don't remember the kv, it is slower but gobs of grunt. I think the Castle will be the best best. I stuck it in this afternoon and it seems ridiculous on the storage charged 2s pack!! Lord know what it will be like on 3s!!
Why the disappointment Addam? That was an awesome speed for brushed/NMH...... we only hit 38mph on brushless /2s! You also deserve bonus points for the body work! 🤣 And hey, you didn't hit your truck either this time, so all good in the playground Sir. Looking forward to further instalments mate..... 👍 👍 👍
I had a higher number in my head so when it was only 31 I was a little let down. It was a good starting point and I have a 15t Radon motor on its way and some pinion gears the size of some spur gears and two brushless systems to try so things will go fast or make smoke! I do have to sort out the range issue though! That was a little sketchy but I did not smack the truck with it, I'll wait until it is going really fast for that, don't want to make minor repairs... just rake it into a bag and go home! LOL!
@@AddamsPlayground ..... "just wait until its going really fast for that"!!!! 🤣 Lol, like your style mate...... I can picture you now sweeping up bits of TT02 from around the truck!! Let's hope not eh mate? In fact, I've watched many tto2 speed runs over the last few weeks..... and I'm actually quite suprised (and disappointed) in the lack of 'carnage'!!! 🤣 They are actually fairly tough little critters! 🤣 👍 👍 👍
Yeah, man, what a nice run! Nice number and for me more importantly, your car handled really nice! Looks like it's going alright with that giant body on it, I think you'll be fine to hammer some more power into it! One thing I was thinking, park your truck next to that other car next time, then you got more clear space on that parking lot... Easy enough to say afterwards, ha ha!
Thanks Mads! It was a good test and I am really glad I found the range issue before cranking up the speed! I got the brushless system in there today and will get that out soon, it sounds crazy on the bench! I did stick in a larger pinion I got in the mail yesterday after this was recorded and went back out with the brushed motor and got a better speed. That will be up tomorrow. This time it was just me in the parking lot so less thing to possibly hit!
It was a good test run and I am glad that I discovered the range issue before going much faster! I did end up sticking a larger pinion into it last night, the new ones showed up, so I went out again today brushed and got the speed I thought i would get with this setup. Afterwards I can home and swapped the brushless into it. On a storage charge 2s pack it feels like it almost doubled in speed so those runs are gonna be a little less relaxed! Especially on 3s!! LOL! Todays run will be out tomorrow. The brushless runs later next week probably. Take care!
I have a 15t motor on its way so in the mean time I do the brushless swap and see what happens! I swore I had a 15t here but can't find it. I stuck it in a car and not sure which one! LOL! I just ordered a Reedy Radon 15t a day Wednesday for it.
Thanks! Just wanted to take it out and get a feel for it with these. These are way harder than I thought it would be to get these things going fast! The brushless and 3s power really got it going though!
I’d say 31 is darn good for a 17t motor and 7 cell nimh, plus that body is just awesome! Oh….and your wife is awesome for helping and supporting your love of the hobby!👍😊
It is and it was just I had an idea in my head of mid to upper 30s from it so the 31 was a "that's it?" moment! There is much more motor and much more gearing to go so it is just a start! My wife is a saint for putting up with my nonsense and she enjoys seeing me happy with it.. and giving me grief about it! LOL!
Thanks! I have dine my brushless runs now and yes, it gets much sketchier really fast! The 2s run was not bad but the 3s run really was tense! Thankfully it went well. I have the 2 degree rear hubs on it from yeah racing which I think help a lot and then I went through and shimmed up all the suspension to get rid of as much play as I could. Lastly I turned the steering rate wayyyyy down. I think it is set to like 35% and I also added in exponential into the steering as well to make the small inputs as small an slow as possible to prevent the jerky motions when going super fast. Hopefully some of that may help you out but it is going to be touchy anyways!
@@AddamsPlayground oh yea… she definitely touchy!…. I have so far a bedt of 66Mph… I have my dual rate set way low for the run as well using a radiolink radio!… this has been an awesome learning experience with the 3s power cap… having to do some thinking to get speed this time…😂😂🤜🤛good luck brother!!
Yeah, I was just a little deflated as I had a higher number in my head but the motor just didn't have the rpms to do it. I did find the range issue so that was a bonus before we go real fast!! Time to stuff in the brushless motors!
I know you aren’t happy with this run, but I thought it was quite solid. If not fast enough for your taste it sure looked fast to mine! That body shell wins in the “show and shine dept.!” Its absolutely sick man! So now to to the brushless I guess. I bet you’ll have the car going as fast as it’s body shell looks in this competition !😂👍🏻💯👊🏼🔥
Thanks Robby! I just had a higher number in my head for it on the 7 cell pack but overall it was a good run and test of the car for the faster speeds. I love the look of it too and I may have to swap the junker body onto it for the really fast attempts. I'd feel bad about trashing this one! On to the brushless systems now!
That’s a pretty good start at 31 mph can’t wait to see what the brushless does love the paint I think it cool that you paint up your cars from movie vehicles I like some box art but the way you did your lunch boxes are awesome sorry it off topic of the video lol
Yeah it was a good starting point and for feeling out how things are running. I need to fix the range issue, that was sketchy. I knew right away this needed to be the Ricky Bobby car! I may swap on the junker body for the brushless runs, seen too many flips and tumbles with other over 45 to want to rick the beautiful body!
Nice! I know it not what you wanted...but still respectable. I am interested in all this faster gearing business and the effects it could possible have on the moving parts etc. But the parts are relatively cheap so... Good run dude!
Yeah for some reason I had about 38 in my head so when it was only 31 I was a little bummed but for a first go with it it went well. I am waiting on the the new 15 turn motor to show up and meanwhile I'll toss in the brushless and give it a go to see what can be done there. I do need to sort out the range issue though! I think these are geared really low stock for small tight track racing and were never intended to go this fast. With the upgraded center prop shaft it is much better at speeds I am not worried about the diffs but I am a little worried about the stock axles and drive cups. Not sure how well they are going to appreciate the abuse they are about to see.
Thanks Dom, I love seeing it out there in the sun, Ricky was shining! I was a little deflated by the 31 just because I had a higher number in my head but it was a clean run and I found the range issue before getting going to fast and smashing into something! That extra voltage gave it some pep for sure and I am surprised nobody else has tossed in a 7 cell pack yet. I may be the only one with any left!
@@AddamsPlayground yeah I have a couple of traxxas 7’s . I notice they added a couple of mph to trx brushed which are heavier so 4 mph is a great gain for a tt02
Thanks Mark! I had a bit of a higher number in my head but overall and good test of the car in prep for the brushless runs! It should really pick up with them! I think it is going to go from smooth to sketchy fairly quickly! LOL!
I know and it was a good first test run of it. I just had a higher number in my head when going out there and was a bit let down with it. It gets faster from here, a little bit fast on run #2 and a lot faster on run #3!!!
Thanks Duke! I had a higher number in my head so the 31 was slower than I wanted but it all went well and I figured out I have a range issue so I need to fix that before going too much faster! LOL! on to brushless not...
LOL! Me too! It is harder than it seems but the big gearing was a good boost. I came home after this and stuck in Castle brushless system and when I hit the throttle on the bench I got scared! On a storage charged 2s pack it sounded sketchy fast! I will find out hopefully tomorrow afternoon.
I got in the bigger gearing shortly after getting home with it and I crammed them in there and went back out and picked up some more speed with it on the brushed motor. Made me feel a bit better. The brushless is in there and from a bench test it is wayyyy faster! Look to get out with it tomorrow afternoon after work to see!
Thanks you! I have gone out again with taller gearing and it went up in speed a little bit. I just got home from running it on brushless and lipo and holy cow it got a lot faster!! That will be out in a day or two! The Ricky Bobby body is not on the faster runs but it will make a final return in a little bit for another brushed motor run.
@@jemshobbies I have called it quits (I'm 98% sure). I feel like I have pushed my lunch enough and I got it about as fast as it'll go with what I have.
Hi there Addam, 31mph is very respectable for a brushed setup. I was wondering if you could have got more using LiPo, as the 7 cell packs would have increased weight in the car. Oh, got to get that aerial sorted, cannot have that interrupting your speed runs. The car looks great 😊😊best wishes to you and the family 😊😊
Thanks John! I could get more with the lipo but there are two classes this year for the competition. One is for brushed motors and nicad and nimh packs only and the other is a run whatever you want. That second one is where the brushless and lipo come to play! Brice at Jack-O-Trades has been running the brushed with lipo just for fun and he knows only count in the second class but i think he hit 71mph with a rushed motor which is insane! I did get the aerial stood up and I swapped out the bodies to preserve the really nice one just in case these upcoming brushless runs don't go so well!
Thanks Nanni! For the two classes it is brushed motor and Nicad or Nimh and the other is lipo and brushed or brushless. I am swapping out the motor for brushless and will run on both 2s and 3s packs for the upcoming runs!
Good to see you out and get some timed runs in for and added 1 cell extra I don’t think an increase of 5mph is too bad and for a sealed can brushed motor. Be interesting to see what you get with a brushless set up. Take care
Yeah, I remembered to bring the GPS thingy with me this time! LOL! That added voltage really helped out. I can't complain, I did have a higher number in my head so the 31 felt a bit slow but overall a good test rune. I said I was going to swap in the brushless but the larger pinions showed up yesterday afternoon so i went ahead and stuck one in there and ran it again on the brushed setup. It did pick up a few more mph! I will get that up for tomorrow. I did come home and swap in the Castle motor and ESC and on a storage charged 2s pack it sounded like it was twice as fast on the bench compared to previous! I think things are going to get sketchy quickly! I do need to go back to the bigger parking lot though, its going to be too fast for this one.
Was not a bad firs tracked run. It is harder to make these fast than I expected! New run on brushed just went up and the brushless is in the car now. It is silly fast feeling on the bench so it will be interesting!
Right!!! I was trying to be slick and lay the antenna down out of the way but wasn't thinking of the range issues it would cause! I am usually only 50 feet or less away from me with all the others so range is never even a question! I don't have Opafra Winfrey to save me so I gotta fix that!
31mpg is not a bad speed at all for because on nimh. Looking forward to the brushless with lipo test. I think 70mph + should be no problem depending the size of the lipo. That GPS speed reader is that? Looks similar to a Meilun. Praying it isn't because many people including myself could never get consistent accurate readings from them on RC cars.
It was a good start, glad I found out I need to stick the antenna up more so I don't lose signal and I can toss in taller gearing too. I think that is the brand of it, not 100% sure but it something like that. I checked it on the way there in the truck and seemed to be in tune with the truck. if it is off a little it is not that big of a deal. I am in it for the fun and not the prizes! I am not a competitive guy really so this is all for funsies! We will see what the brushless and lipo swap will do for it!
Your car looks great. I run in Tamiya TT class at my local parking lot series. We have to use a 27T Holmes Hobby brushed motor and a fixed gearing. I found the 1060 to be slow as compared to some of the other cars. My friends are running the old Tamiya ESC's and they are faster. We are running lipos. Brushless is the way to go in my opinion. But, I don't know the rules of the competition.
Hey Michael! The rules are run with brushed and nicad/nimh in one class and whatever you can stuff into it in the other class (brushless and as much power as you would like! I never though the ESC may be limiting it. The gearing on these is much lower than I expected but it makes sense for smaller short track running. Nobody at Tamiya thought we would be pushing them to crazy speeds (well trying to at least!
Yeah! I have never bought any of those and doubt I ever will! They are crazy expensive! The 31 was a good start but in my head I was thinking close to 38 on the 7cell pack. Swapping it all out tomorrow and seeing what happens on the brushless setup! more faster for sure!
LOL! Yes, Ricky looks goos out there but needed some more gearing! I did not know it was going to be so hard to make them go fast! I thought some gearing and hold on to it but it is a really slow car by default!
Hi John. It is from the movie Talladega Nights, it is the car Ricky Bobby drives at the end of the movie when he did not have a car sponsor. I am sucker for goofy stuff like that and once the speed run challenge was announce I knew I had to make it this theme!
Yeah it was not bad for a first go but I was hoping for a but closer to 40! I have a 64t spur and I a 28 or 29t pinion. I have larger ones coming though! dang things look like spur gears! LOL!
It was a good run, I just had a higher number in my head so the 31 was a bit deflating but overall a solid test! I was able to figure there is a range issue before going super fast and smashing into something, so that was a valuable lesson! There is plenty of time left so I am going to go brushless now and come back to the brushed after I think, I a still wafting for the brushed motor.
