****Correction to the gearing note in the video**** I had looked at the wrong order when I checked before.... I am running a 64t spur and 42t pinion in this run hence the giant cutout in the gear case! Sorry for the confusion. I have ordered so many pinion sets in the last two weeks it is not funny!!
@@danielandrews7028 I might be able to get another tooth or two in there but any more and I would have to start hacking into the chassis to make room for it! I just got the brushless runs done yesterday, that video will out tomorrow. It got a whole lot faster!!!
Thanks Paul! I have the brushless in there now and it sounded silly fast on the bench on 2s so it should be a bit more exciting on the next runs! 3s has me a little nervous!
💪yewww getting there totally understand you saving Ricky bobby for the final run the way that car is handling the runs is impressive got all the potential there ps frothing over your real truck that is nice what is it we don't see American cars much nice work Addam 👊
Yeah, I needed to preserve the nice body as I have seen some nasty tumbles and slides! I am happy with this last brushed run and it handled it very well. I just got home from the brushless run and holy smokes... it was a rocket! You'll see it in a day or two but man it really pepped up with the brushless and lipo power! My reall truck is a 2012 Ford F350 4x4. I got it because I never wanted to be in a place where I needed more truck, so far it has always been more than enough! It is not easy on the gas though so we drive the wife's SUV around most of the time!
Thanks! She is a saint and enjoys me having fun with them. She has no interest in them other than knowing i am having fun and she doesn't mind being the camera person, as long as there are not too many bugs!
It did well and I got in the 15t Reedy Radon motor today. I have already stuck in the Castle brushless system so if it survives the 2s and 3s runs on that I will swap it back to brushed mode and see if it is enough to crack the 40! The brushless sounds very rowdy on the bench so the next couple runs are going to escalate quickly!
Big Gearing Change Addam 🎉 RCF4L 😃👉 36+ is good for a Brushed Set-up and Brushless on 2s should be +10 to 15 mph gain at least ✌🤠👍 Having Fun Laughing Playing and RCing 🙏 Stay Safe and Play Healthy Brother 🎉🎊⭐⭐⭐🎊🎉
Hey Larry! It did well for a sealed can 17t motor> I am sure John never thought anyone would be trying speed runs with them but it did well. The gears are a must, it is the only way to get any speed out of these is to force feed it gearing! I took it out yesterday and ran it on the brushless with 2 and 3s and boy did it pick up some speed! Th9ngs escalated quickly! That video will be tomorrow!
RESULT!!!!! What a great speed run Addam, only 1mph off of our brushless/lipo time!!! Not only that, she seemed very straight and stable. Loving the DIY gear cover..... was wondering how people were putting such large pinions on, now I know! Just shows how much of this is down to gearing, not just outright power! Got high hopes for you once you go brushless mate..... Nice! 👍 👍 👍
Thanks James! These things seem to be gear like rock crawlers and take a large set of gears to go fast! I have the brushless in there now and it sounded silly fast on the bench on 2s so it should be a bit more exciting on the next runs! 3s has me nervous!
Thanks Mike! I am happier with this run and it still feel nice and steady. The next runs on brushless will require the bigger parking lot and will be a little more sketchy I think. The 2s may be easier but the 3s I think is going to make me nervous!
Well Addam as Scottie of Star Trex would say "It's Given You All It's Got" 36mph is pretty good for that brushed motor. No range issues with the antenna up. It runs smooth and is definitely well planted to the ground. Wife did excellent with the camera coverage. Take care.💯💯💯💯
LOL! Yeah that is about all it's got with that motor! I did take it out last night and ran it with the brushless setup and boy it did it pick up some speed! I gave it all she had and it did well. It was not very happy about it but it did good! That will be out tomorrow. My wife did well on camera duties! She is a great help!
That was awesome, Addam! I know you were hoping for 40 but that's a blooming good speed right there, and you are way out in front of me!!! I got some catching up to do already! Nice one, mate, good luck with the brushless attempt!
Seems to be less about motor and a lot more about how big of a gear can you cram into! They seem to have them geared like rock crawlers! LOL! The next runs on brushless will require the bigger parking lot and will be a little more exciting I think. The 2s may be easier but the 3s I think is going to be rather sketchy!
I was really surprised the motor was not complaining more about that giant pinion gear! It seems like these things are geared like rock crawlers or something! A 17t motor and a pinon that size in any of my others and it would be doing 112! LOL! The brushless Castle system is in there and it was super fast sounding on the bench, like sketchy fast so the next couple runs with it will be very interesting! Going to do 2s and then give it the full send with 3s and hope I am not scooping up parts afterwards LOL!!
Thanks Glenn! Lots of videos out there to watch for sure! 30+ entries this year. I am sure we will do another next year too! Not sure what platform it will be on though. The brushless is in there now and from a bench test it is wayyyy faster! Look to get out with it tomorrow afternoon after work to see!
Thanks Brent! I had to try out the big gears and I was right when I said 42t pinion, I messed up and saw the wrong order when I checked to see what it was. I did stick in the 4700kv Castle system in it after this run and just testing it on the bench with a storage charged 2s it felt silly fast compared to the brushed! The next runs (maybe tomorrow) will definitely be much faster.
@AddamsPlayground lol I picked up a 4600kv castle system Friday I'm pacing myself having fun trying different setups when is the final run date I still think we have a while to play
Hi Addam, a great run with the upped gearing. 36mph is a good achievement indeed, especially with no over heating issues either. The car looked very stable too, and a good idea to go diagonally to give you an extra few metres (sorry, in the US, you still use imperial 😂, there a few more yards) or two to keep the throttle planted 😊😊😊. Best wishes to you and the family. Well done bud 😊😊
Thanks John! It was much better this time with the giant gearing in there. I will say I just got home from the brushless runs and boy did it get faster! That will be out in a day or two and I am very happy with the results! I am becoming more and more bimeasuremental and can go from metric to murica measurement fairly well! LOL
She has to be snarky to deal with me!! LOL! That is why were get along so well, some days it is all sarcasm and zingers!
Hey there Pete! I had to find out what that giant pinon gear would do for it before going brushless. The Brushless motor is in there now and should be a very interesting run. The bench test indicated it is going to go really fast compared to the brushed runs!!
Thanks! I did stick in the 4700kv Castle system in it after this run and just testing it on the bench with a storage charged 2s it felt silly fast compared to the brushed! The next runs will definitely be much faster.
Even with this gearing they top out very fast. I may get 1 or 2 with a longer run. I am going back to the ligger lot with the brushless setup soon, maybe tomorrow. Just on the bench it seems wayyyyy faster and that was just on a storage charge 2s pack! It should be interesting! Once we are done with the brushless, assuming it survives, I will stick the 15t Radon motor I just got in and see what it will do with some more space!
LOL! I had to do something to keep those tiny little stones and sand out of the gears! I had to try out the big gears and I was right when I said 42t pinion, I messed up and saw the wrong order when I checked to see what it was. I have ordered so many pinions lately it is silly! I have dozens of them now! I should not need any 48p pinions for the rest of my life! I did stick in the 4700kv Castle system in it after this run and just testing it on the bench with a storage charged 2s it felt silly fast compared to the brushed! The next runs (maybe tomorrow) will definitely be much faster.
Thank you Heiko! I was happier with the speeds here. I just came home from running it with the brushless motor and lipo batteries.... man it was a lot faster! That will be out in day or two. It was much more intense for sure! Take care and have a wonderful week as well!
Glad you are enjoying them! I just installed the new brushless motor and switching to lipo batteries so it will get a whole lot faster on the next run!! On the bench it seemed close to twice as fast! I only know of one or two other locals that run RC. Most folks in the comments are from all over.the world!
Thanks Dirk, I needed something to over the gears as all kinds of tiny stones get bounced up in there and I don't want to buy any more gears! I have bought so many pinions lately it is silly! With only the few quick passes nothing in there got hot at all which kind of surprised me too! Lets see what it will do brushless and if it survives then I will toss in the new 15t brushed motor and see if I can get a few more mph out of it for the brushed category!
@@AddamsPlayground water on my mills. I always wondered how or even that the F-1 or C-class cars work without damaging their open gears. I'm curious about your next runs. Looks very promissing.
Thanks Will! I have the brushless in there and not and it felt crazy fast on the bench so the next runs should be a lot more exciting and the mph should go up significantly!
Thanks! It is way harder than I thought it was going to be to make these things go fast! LOL! I thought some speed gears and a slightly larger pinion and it would all be down to who could drive it silly fast and not crash. These things feel like they are geared like rock crawlers with how hard it is to go fast. I di stick in the 4700kv Castle system in it after this run and just on the bunch with a storage charged 2s it felt silly fast compared to the brushed! I think the next runs with it will be a lot more sketchy and fast! I was wrong on the pinion size too I just realized it. It was a 64t spur and it was a 42t pinion on it. I have written in the video it was a 32 or something like that. I looked at the wrong order when I checked! Gear it to the moon, that seems to be the solution.
Thanks! I could not resist cramming that big gear in there and seeing what it would do! I did mess up and was right in saying it was a 42t pinion, I second guessed and this morning editing I pulled up my order history and saw the wrong order info with the 32t and in fact it was the giant 42t one. I have the Castle system in it and will try to get out tomorrow evening with it and see how that goes. It is going to be a lot fast as the bench test shocked me how much faster it was going! That was on a storage charge 2s pack so I am little worried for 3s!
Thanks and yes it does! I actually eeked a slightly larger one in there for the last 15t brushed run with it. They just showed up and it took some finesse but there is a slightly larger one in there!! It really does look like two spur gears sitting in there side by side! LOL! I will try to get out and run it this weekend!
Thanks Dom! It did really well for being a 17t brushed motor! I just came home from the brushless runs. Lets just say a slight increase in speed was seen!! The 3s run was nuts! I will get it edited and uploaded for Thursday.
Yeah not bad for a $17 motor that they probably never thought would be in a speed run challenge! The Brushless motor is in there now and should be a very interesting run. The bench test indicated it is going to go really fast compared to the brushed runs!!
Thanks Mark! I shimmed pretty much everything in there to make sure it was as tight as I could get it without slowing things down. It really seemed to help out a lot. I did stick in the 4700kv Castle system in it after this run and just testing it on the bench with a storage charged 2s it felt way faster!!! We will see what it does and I hope it tracks straight then too!
Beautiful runs, buddy! Great control, you took it all the way to the end of the tarmac and used every little bit of asphalt for that run, very well done, very confident! And a really nice result on brushed setup, looking forward to seeing your entry into brushless!
Thanks Mads. I got out last night and ran the brushless runs. Oh man did that escalate quickly. That video will be out tomorrow and I am very happy with the speeds reached.
Thanks Thad! I had no idea how slow these things are really geared! I am going to have to mate the 64t spur as a pinion to get it any faster! LOL! I have the Castle 4700kv in there now and the bench test last night was shocking! LOL! That was just with a storage charged 2s so things are going to escalate quickly!! I hope to get out tomorrow after work maybe and give it a try as long as the parking lot is empty.
Yeah, I had to test out the giant gearing with the brushed first. I messed up and saw the wrong order when I checked to see what it was, it is a 42t pinion in there. I did stick in the 4700kv Castle system in it after this run and just testing it on the bench with a storage charged 2s it felt silly fast compared to the brushed! The next runs (maybe tomorrow) will definitely be much faster.
Yeah these things seem to be geared like rock crawlers LOL! I did not think it was going to be this hard to get them fast! The brushless is in there now and feels silly fast on the bench so things are going to escalate quickly on the next outing I think! I did get the 15t motor in today too so if it survives the brushless runs it will get a go with the 15t!
The taller gearing gave it some more legs! The brushless is in there and from a bench test it is way faster! Look to get out with it tomorrow afternoon after work to see!
It is going to be nuts I am sure, I have the brushless Castle 4700kv in there now and the bench test last night was crazy fast feeling! Like it wanted to rattle off the stand and fly! LOL! It is going to be much different for sure!
Awesome! Just went and subbed to catch it. I am trying to get out tomorrow after work and do the first brushless runs. From bench testing it, it sounds sketchy fast! Good luck with yours!
Thank Nick! If it survives the 2s and 3s runs on that I will swap it back to brushed mode and see if it is enough to crack the 40!
Thanks Nanni! It is getting there! I have the brushless system in there now and it was super fast just testing it on the bench. Way faster than the brushed by far! The next couple runs should be interesting!
Lots! LOL! The only way to get them going fast is to feed it all the gearing! I never in my life thought I would run anything with a 42t pinon gear on it! I was right when I said 42t pinion and not in the corrected statement of 32t, I had looked at the wrong amazon order when I typed that in there this morning! I have pinon gears for days now! lol!
Once I break 50 I will be happy! I have to go faster than the Lunch Box challenge from last year where I topped out at 48. I am fairly confident the brushless will get me there. If not on 2s I am sure on 3 it will if I have enough room! I have it in there now and it was nutty fast sounding on the storage charged 2s pack last night. I hope to get it out maybe tomorrow after work and see what it does. I'd love to hit 60 but will be satisfied with breaking the 50 barrier!
LOl! yeah, close enough right? If it survives the 2s and 3s runs on that I will swap it back to brushed mode with the new 15t Radon motor I just got and see if it is enough to crack the 40! I did stick in the 4700kv Castle system in it after this run and just testing it on the bench with a storage charged 2s it felt silly fast compared to the brushed! The next runs will definitely be much faster!
Nice runs! Improvements are always good. Taller gearing is called for. Do you think you have enough room in that spot? It seems decent but then you run out of room so fast.
Thanks Brice. I am heading to the bigger parking lot of the next ones. I can hear it kind of peak out about half way across the parking lot so I think I am getting almost everything out of it if not all. The next ones will need more room for sure!
Addam. Do the rules say you have to run a body? Im curious when going to brushless if at the end you can get any more speed with your lightest battery and no body. ive seen the speed challenges and some running brushed are not using bodies.
No rules against it. I will run the body just in the off chance I catch a rock or something and roll over! I'd rather lose a couple mph than shred me electronics! I am doing it for the fun of the tinkering and highly doubt I get to the top of either leaderboard, I am just having fun with it! I had a better chance last year due to fewer entries! LOL!
WOW! 5.36 Final Drive Ratio. for those folks that dont know what this is.....Stock is 70t spur and 22T pinion. 70 divided by 22 X 2.6 internal gear ratio = 8.27. Addam swapped the 70T spur for a 64T spur and the 22T pinion for a 31T pinion. 64\31X2.6= 5.36 Addam what can be done to get the gear ratios closer to 4:1? just curious where you got your pinion from. thanks!!
Thank you for the math but I was right and wrong about the gearing.. I was right when I said 42t pinion and not in the corrected statement, I had looked at the wrong order when I typed that in there this morning! (too early to be editing I guess!) So by that math (not my strong suite) it appears I am running 3.96! I got the pinon set from Amazon - amzn.to/3so0EOL I have the Castle brushless system in there now and the bench test was shocking! The next runs are going to be a lot faster as long as nothing smokes!
