Guest videographer Chris Edwards caught these shots of TTC work cars coming in and out of service on the Yonge-University subway between summer 2018 and summer 2019. Damian Baranowski edited everything together and provided commentary on what Chris saw. Enjoy these glimpses of the TTC's fleet of unique work cars.

Is it true that the TTC has or had a subway snowblower car, but it has never had to be used for its intended purpose?

From what I know, RT48, RT49, and RT50-53 are all snow equipment. They were purchased in 2001, largely in response to the massive 1999 snowstorm that shut down portions of the subway. They haven't seen as much use as you'd expect, but they haven't been just sitting around. Our winters may be getting milder, but I think we all appreciate the snow-blower that's sitting in the garage, even if we only pull it out once or twice a year.

@@transittoronto I recalled that from out-of-date information, likely in the 1970's book "50 Years of Progressive Transit" from the library.

@@haweater1555 That may have been RT-6, which was converted from a 1922 car in time for the opening of the original Yonge subway, and apparently wasn't retired until 2009. Anyway, what Transit Toronto has on the subway work cars can be found on our website here: transittoronto.ca/subway/5510.shtml
