I don't usually post on these things, but I wanted to add that the title of this song is a reference to a short piece of philosophy by Bertrand Russell. It should absolutely be read by everyone.

Wow, this is one of the best performances I've seen from Henry vocal-wise. This song sounds so natural and not like he's straining his voice to match the notes. Whatever is going on here, it sounds fantastic.

Yeah! it's awesome how he changes from the chest voice to falsettos easily and hits high range notes perfectly all around the song.

Such a brilliant and awesome performance! Everything about these three guys together doing music is absolutely unique. My notes: 1. Henry's singing is amazing. He changes from the chest voice to falsettos easily and hits high range notes perfectly all around the song while playing solid and awesome bass lines in odd time signatures; 2. Tim's guitar parts are totally stunning for the ears, the heart and everything. He's one of the best guitar players around, bringing a completely different approach to guitar that's usually seen on a acoustic guitar fingerstyle players. He's able to create extremely complex music full of feeling, heart and soul in an unique way; 3. Chris's awesome as ever. I'm not a drummer to say anything but he adds drum parts full of details going through different dynamics across the whole song perfectly. My favourite from "Disappointment Island". Also, contratulations for the sound engineers in this one. What a solid sound!

Old guy here wasn't familiar with this band. They are awesome. The music has substance to it and they can perform live without a lot of audio engineer assistance. There IS a future for good music played by talented musicians.

I just read that Tim is self-taught and I just don't understand how you can be that fucking good without some kind of classical training. I've always been more into singer-songwriter style punk/pop-punk and emo and this band was my intro to mathrock. I've been listening to them for years and just now am finding these sessions. They're so good and I hope to one day have chops like that on guitar and bass. Also, is Henry's bass VI home made? Looks like short scale jazz bass with extra holes cut into the headstock for more tuning pegs and bass VI strings and zip-ties to hold it all together? Always wanted a Bass VI but it would be really cool to make one like this.

I listen to him and watch him play, and sometimes I can only throw up my hands and be like "Man, his brain works super differently than mind." Mostly, I'm just psyched that he, they, and this exist.

Hello! Tim is indeed awesome, I got to chat a little with him earlier this year at a concert back in January. Super down-to-earth. You can be as good as him simply if you practise and put your mind to it, listening and watching them play, or by learning and playing some of their songs you'll get a grasp to it! Fingerstyle, two-hand tapping, open tunings and having a notion of playing guitar like a piano or trying to make it sound like two instruments at once, making the most use out of played and open notes. He's a genius at it all for sure, lots of interesting tunings and approach to playing the guitar, he's definitely inspired me a lot. Henry's Bass VI is homemade, he took a short scale bass and indeed re-worked it all to work like a Bass VI swapping the bridge, zero fret nut, holes in the headstock and all like you've mentioned, he has a video talking about it on RU-vid aswell. I'd love to make one myself since they're unaffordably expensive where I live and there's no offbrand ripoff economic models here... if I can find a cheap fourstring bass to work on I would haha

Fourteen cleaning crimson from carpets of cream Before that it's seen School tie tied too tight I'm afraid it's frayed and has dropped my weight Cough, choke press your hands on your throat You broke your nose when your noose broke loose How quickly caught that i have been Within the life i've failed to leave Tragic how common this want to rot Could it be symptomatic of an ancient mechanic People evolved for a vastly different time Before we tamed our fasts with an inquisitive mind Move on i'm no good What do i contribute Cut the fat from your backs Where do i exactly fit Does the group benefit if i quit And cease to exist Solicit illness from excess Mental wellness and heath The antithesis of success In praise of idleness The true altruists gift To spit the wrist Self sacrifice A common drive it is rife With science sustenance in sustained in abundance How do i find a pride i'm still alive

Where's the mustache, Henry??
@AFistfulOfVinyl
@AFistfulOfVinyl 7 лет назад
It was interfering with the microphone, so Chris and Tim forcibly shaved it before our set. They used a straight razor, which is obviously super dangerous, but fortunately the two of them are dexterous enough that Henry had neither a mark nor a moustache on him afterwards.
