I had one of these shower valves turn into a shit show about a year ago. Was trying to change the 2 springs and seats inside a Delta valve to correct a dripping tub spout. Ended up finding out that the whole valve body is attached to the wall with 3 little copper tubes, and when I loosened the packing nut, I twisted all 3 tubes and it leaked like a bastard when I got it back together. The bathroom on the other side was, incidentally, unfinished. I ended up getting a Moen and changing the valve out from behind. No need to demolish the tub surround.
100 degrees here in the south today Steve, she's a scorcher mama. Walking outside feels like someone has a hair dryer on high pointed at your whole body. It's miserable right now all the grass is dying too.
