"Maple Leaf Rag" is the epitome of "Rag Time" and Tuba Skinny plays a wonderful rendition of "Maple Leaf Rag". I love those two ladies who have stuck with "tuba Skinny" all these years.
In this crazy time, it's so hopeful to watch seven people at the top of their art working in perfect harmony to make something absolutely exceptional and beautiful. Tears of joy... Bless you...
Thank God for RU-vid! or I would never have seen or heard Tuba Skinny. Wish my Dad was still here to have a listen. He loved this music and got me loving it, too!
Music has no age and that's what's wonderful. I marvel at music that is over 115 years old as well as music composed yesterday. A life without music is hell. Thanks, thanks to Tuba Skinny who makes me find my soul of child at more than seventy four years.
I am sitting at seventy-three years of age. Had wonderful parents that loved a large assortment of music. It is so great to have groups like this to listen to when so many radio stations have their little set of songs that they play over and over and is nothing more than top ten tunes from whatever persuasion they choose. To much wonderful music to listen to to be stuck on "gits" only stations.
Only in New Orleans. Hound dog is probably a body guard. Drummer is tired of holding drum, so she sits on it. No body is following sheet music. Truly odd combinations of instruments, but they always blend. You gotta love the south !
This is sooooo it! They totally capture the spirit of Dixieland and rag!!! The clarinet player, the trumpet, well everyone there is giving it that special feel I love...this is pure candy to my old ears...Thank You very much for sharing all those great clips of Tuba Skinny, a band I didn't know of until recently! Cheers!
@@demef758 I see,..There's a nuance.. I always confuse "Dixieland" "Rag time" and "N.O.Jazz"...This music is before my time (I'm only 65) but I love it!
I have to say, Shaye's playing, especially on her solos, is a study in musical interpretation and I mean feeling, timing and emphasis. She is a visual poem.
I have just recently discovered Tuba Skinny and I can't get enough of them. Tell Shaye if she is not married, here I am. But one thing I will never understand is how people can walk by completely oblivious to this outstanding music. I guess there are those who are so wrapped up in the daily little messes they call their lives, they haven't the time to appreciate those things that make life so wonderful. I feel pity for them and for those soulless 75 who voted thumbs down.
For someone who tries to present themselves as enthusiastic about art and open-hearted, it's more than unwise to assume that other people, whose worries and struggles you don't know, live a bad life just because they dare to walk past a band you happen to like. You need to learn that there are people who think differently from you and that this is completely acceptable. You are trying to portray yourself as a positive person, but in reality, you don't seem any better because you try to impose your opinion on others. This is very unfortunate because you seem to have a fine sense of art, but at least with me, you lose all respect with your negativity.
One of the many impressive features of the band is how precisely they hold the tempo that Shaye sets at the start of the number. I have yet to hear a number where the band sped up or slowed it down. If you've ever dabbled in a band of any kind, you understand how difficult it is!
My son is studying at a UK conservatoire and I've heard a lot of very talented musicians ranging from teenagers to world class musicians and the one thing that really makes top notch musicians stand out is their timing. Sadly, I'm not a great musician but I know one when I hear one.
@@washingtongeraldodeoliveir8338 I make no claims whatsoever about being a music authority, but one thing I've noticed over my life is that even the best bands will often speed up a number as the song progresses. I'm not criticizing, only observing. However, I am PRAISING Tuba Skinny because they hold a tempo perfectly to my ear!
I copied and pasted this message because it reflects my feelings exactly. My Dad was born in New Orleans area in 1891 but moved into Texas soon after. Came to England to fight in the 1st world war and that's a whole nother story! Thank God for RU-vid! or I would never have seen or heard Tuba Skinny. Wish my Dad was still here to have a listen. He loved this music and got me loving it, too!
I've just played this again (in September 2022) after listening to more up-to-date TS videos for the past six months or so, and I can honestly say it is absolutely wonderful. The intonation, and the togetherness of the band are spot on, and it seems to me that in the seven years since this video was made they have remained constantly superb in what they do. It is no wonder that we are all still listening to them more than ten years after they were founded. If the band is reading this, I have one thing to say to you all: Keep up the good work.
I love Erica's rock steady yet swingin' bass drum work. Her drum work is an easily overlooked but essential reason why this band swings so hard. Its hard to see how something so simple drives the band so well. But then I guess that's what the great one's do - they make it look simple.
This is so fabulous. There is really no where to go after this. Even includes a poor dog with flees to add character. These wondrous musicians that chooses to ply their there genius as street musicians are a special breed.
Love your band so much I hate to leave the music to do a chore in another room. I often carry my I pad and speaker with me. Makes folding clothes easier as I dance while doing the work. Y’all are serious business to me. Thanks for your talent, your energy, and perseverance. ‼️👏🏻🤗❤️🌹😘
Love it, this was my Grandma'sfavorite song to play on the piano. She was still tickling the impression on this one when she passed away at the age of 92. God Bless.
I keep coming back to this, months and months between visits and it's still as good and fresh as ever. I don't honestly think I'm ever going to see Tuba Skinny - unless they visit Britain - but they are the quintessential Dixieland Jazz band. And they make it look so casual! I loved the trombone solo, but I couldn't see the trombonist! Thought it might be the tuba player, but it would have to be a tuba player with huge lungs to do that. Glad I spotted him behind the collecting table. Great stuff guys.
Thank you for sharing hidden music between Erica & shayne ,great audience including the dog thanks camera person keep smiling with lol politely & safely thanks !!!
Many groups sound good because they all of the notes. This group not only play the right notes but have feeling. They really capture the groove and style of this music. Much more than many groups out there. BRAVO!
This is simply wonderful music. Love the video dogs and wandering people. I do hope they come back to Australia some time. Thank you for making my day.
@@johnrowley8055 Me, too. My grandfather was an infant, at that time. I grew up on his love of music and "Hi-Fidelity". ~ From Sousa and MacNarmara to almost all Claasical, (for, me). Opera, not so much. ~ It's all about the bass! My ears don't do high octaves. Preferring male vocals, too. And I love and appreciate all the music that he, and then, my late parents, grew up on, too. Like, Swing and throughout the "War Years". The *Greats* from the Big Band Era, ~ oh my! I love Music History. As I push 70 y.o. though, it's almost like music stopped being historical, or of major significance or quality, back in the late '80s, and into the '90s - at some point. I D/K when! It was OK with Rap, until it went Gangsta ... and the rest of the industry seemed to devolve, too. About the same time. But, then, I was fortunate enough to have seen The Beatles, @ 13, in 1965! (I haven't followed it for the last 10. - I Can't ⛸ anymore.) I just thought it odd my late husband (/Silent Gen.) disliked his older parent's music so much. ~ Being a musician, himself. But, I'll Pass on AC/DC and ABC "Twangy". But, these folks are as much a pleasure to run across👍as the *Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain*! ~ Sure to brighten any day, time, mood or SITU! 🌟 💜 🌞 MUSIC that makes your ♡ SING, your Spirit SOAR and your feet want to Move! A New Fan to this Top of the Line explosion of 'old roots' to Dixielands BEST "styling," expressed so exquisitely! I'm enamored. Thank you for sharing such fine Talents during Covid!
Tuba Skinny! I saw one of their street performances last time I was in New Orleans, and I've got the CD to prove it :D They're the epitome of what makes New Orleans such a unique and wonderful city; it is just saturated with music and joie de vivre, ready to embrace fun anywhere and at any time.
Great sound & video, Iam in my early 70's & of course getting into music seen in the 1960's, this sound brings back memories of seeing a band live in Leeds called the (Temperance Seven) similar sound brill, keep up the good work 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Because of my age I've been getting frequent MRIs and CAT scans and a bunch of crap like that I always listen to the interrupters one of my favorite ska bands but holy crap I stumbled across Tuba skinny now I have new driving music, MRI music, CAT scan music, , I love this music thank you guys so much for what you do...."
In my opinion, this is one of the top 3 videos that have ever been posted of the group. Great perspective of the band playing except that we can't see Mr. Jones on trombone. Great audio too!! Thanks so much for posting!!!!
I have played this one too many times already...In my opinion, where do you find a better performance on RU-vid if you understand what is being performed ......
Fantástico grupo este, que nos deliciam com esta bela música, única! Interessante a sempre presença belo "dingo" para ajudar na coreografia. Obrigado, pelas maravilhosas interpretações.
I “clicked” on this by accident this morning, and am I GLAD I did! My dad LOVED this kind of music, brought a tear to my eye thinking he’s missed these guys. Thanks for the pure bliss of listening to them!
