The end gave me chills. These guys are really good. Matt and Tim, your passion and consistency has payed off. Watching your vids motivates us, inspires us, gives confidence and so much great information. Thank you guys. You have no idea how much it helps.
@@gabedeleon5256 Awesome, never been up there. Probably some great bass fishing around you. I'm in chino hills ca. We got some giant bass down here. Been at them for 5 years now throwing the big swimbaits. Haven't got the giant yet but still at it. Still throw the smaller stuff from time to time just for that confidence booster!
my buddy and I fish one section of table rock . we have been doing this for 44 yrs. most areas the exposed hook gets hung so much its not worth it, and rigging the hook along the outside of the tube gets bite with about 5% hook up. Once we started bending the hook slightly out and the tube bite is on were having fun again ! We use a sm. bell sinker and a EWG hook and fish 18 ft. or less. I am 72 and always said the more you learn the better you get. Thanks to you guys the process continues, my confidence builds and my passion for the sport is on going.
This is straight up the best fishing channel on RU-vid. The videos are mind-blowingly regular and I always learn something. "watch me fish" and other memes have taken over some otherwise good channels. You guys are killing it. Also - Tim - Thanks for putting me on Old Ugly.
Tube fishing, absolutely my favorite way to fish! A lot of people here in Oklahoma don’t really use them often but I use them all year around and almost always crush with them. Rivers, ponds, lakes the tube gets it done for me.
Awesome tips Tim! I was strictly a power fisherman until just recently I was struggling one day and picked up the drop shot and crushed 'em! I now have a dedicated finesse rod. Lol
Mr.Tim and Mr.Matt you guys have thought me way more than I could ever thank you for. I've only been bass fishing for 9 months cought my first bass 12-12-17 and now I have loved over 400 I live in Tampa Florida area it's a pretty cool feeling the guys that were trying to tell me what to use and how to use it are now asking me what when where and how to use things and I just want to thank you guys very much hope you never stop.
I'm just getting into using tubes and I gotta say this is really going to help me land more fish! Thanks for the pointers! Happy fishing y'all! 🙂 God bless
Thanks Tim, good info. I've never fished a tube so will have to get some and give them a try. Really appreciate all the info and help you and Matt give.
Tubes are my absolute go-to's for finesse smallmouth river fishing, particularly anchored up on the inside of a bend. Keep lightly popping it and let the current carry it while dropping... nailed some monsters doing this. Good tips, guys... Great to see Matt back on the water!!
Great video guys. I started using the Gitzit tubes this year and found that the Smallies LOVE crushing those things on the fall. The Gitzit tube is a smaller, narrower, profile that for some reason is way more effective the strike king 3.5 coffee tube. Can fish them side by side, same colors and the Gitzit out fishes the Strike King 5 to 1. As Tim said, it is a good thing these baits are not too expensive, as they don't last very long, two or three fish max and it time to tie on a new one. CANT wait for the temps to drop just a few more degrees as the fall bite is one of my favorite times of year. Thanks again for the great content.
Great video! I have the gear for throwing tubes but never use them! I went out this morning and threw a tube around and stuck a 4lb smallie! Thanks for the in depth video! I definitely changed the way I previously fished a tube and it paid off big time!
Good Evening TacticalBassin, Thank you 4 the informative Video! I Truley admire your Determination and Presitance in chasing these Magnifcenent Bass! I don't have alot of finances to accomindate the adverse conditions but I admire your determination which drives me further into my quest for the ultimate Small or Large Mouth Bass, Not to mension Pike or Musky! I've watched your video's relgiously and found them relivity Very Compelling! Keep up the good work! Sincerely Mr. Carl J. Gwizdala. Aka "Desperado!"
Matt, that was a great question at the end about how is it that Tim is able to "call" his catches. Tim, that was a great answer also about the bottom structure transitions. Great one, guys!
Really good info as always. Without your channel I’d still be casting aimlessly. I can’t remember the last time I got skunked. I’m catching bigger and more fish than I ever have before. I know what to feel for and have more confidence than ever. Thank you both.
Great points guys. When Matt asked his question, I'm surprised that your informative answer didn't take it a step further. I fish on the Great Lakes and I have been asked that question many times. I start exactly as you did by suggesting you use good finesse gear and that you need to know your lure/weights and how they interact with the topology. However, I think that a lot of Bass will pick or peck at this lure sometimes before inhaling it. So for me, feeling those pecks (without my line running) let's me know that I may have a strike in a couple seconds.
Thanks for this video! Tubes exposed hook were by far what my grandfather used the most when I went fishing with him growing up - at the time I never asked him much about it, but I have a bunch of them as a result that I have been itching to use.
I've been experimenting with the Daiwa tatula elite AGS and have enjoyed fishing it, my two main spinning rod are the tatula elite AGS and St. Croix legend extreme 7'2" and both are great
Last year I was fishing a craw Texas rig and one of the ways I knew I was gonna get bit is you have to be patient with the bite and you have to feel it. Your fishing line is kinda like sonar, you have to let your feelers feel what’s on the bottom and have a sense of anticipation of when the fish bite. Because let’s be real, when they want it they will go after it.
Here's a tube tip, last year I figured out how to rig tubes to be basically simultaneously weedless & exposed: rig the tube stupid-tube method with push-through style shaky heads like Bagley's shaky heads; if you use the right tube size and rig it right, the tube will be held in place and "float" around the hook point with the point being about 1/8"-1/4" or so in the cavity of the hollow tube's body making it pretty weedless, but when you go to set the hook the tube will collapse sliding over the point and hook the fish. This works for me so it should for everyone else too.
I threw a tube on a dropshot in super clear lake in New Hampshire, and caught some big smallmouth. I always seem to do best on those weird makeshift rigs I come up with on the fly!
There is going to be like an almost 20 degree drop in temperature between Friday and Sunday and the forecast is calling for a 16 mph east wind, not ideal conditions to be on that lake, take care!
@@pdbandit1 well that figures, thanks for the info, with my work schedule I don't get out as much as I want and the weather usually doesn't cooperate with me lol
No idea where you are at or what part of the lake you intended to fish, I always fished between the western Cleveland and Marblehead area, east winds give that lake a lot of room to get rolling in my area.
@@pdbandit1 yeah I usually go out of midway marina by catawba, it can get rolling pretty good, might just cruise the marinas for largemouths if it gets too rough
Matt, back in the early and mid 1980's I had a 24 foot Searay I kept docked at Midway. i am disabled and really haven't been able to fish since 2003, but East Harbor was always a better bass spot for me than West Harbor. Can't imagine how much fishing pressure it gets now.
Do you guys have much experience or know much about fishing cooling lakes? I live in Illinois and the closest lakes to me are all cooling lakes for power plants and such. The water temps stay high year round and insanely high in summer. If you guys have any experience on cooling lakes a video on that would be awesome. Things like where fish go during the different seasons and whats different about their behavior compared to a regular lake. My first boat is currently at a mechanics getting the engine looked over, after that I'll be out on the water trying to figure things out. Love your videos, very grateful for the info y'all share!
ARenaissanceishMan I can help you out with this. Power plant lakes are a great way to catch a fish of a lifetime. What lake are you talking about? I can send you a map and give you a few areas to try. I fish Lacygne about every weekend in Kansas. My best is a 9-13 and my buddy caught the lake record 10-15 last year. In the summer find the cooler water down by the inlet. Rip rap is generally abundant on these lakes and a good place to start. Your part of the Midwest has a ton of mud so any rock you can find a key area. Winter is your best time to stick a true giant and I suggest hitting it hard from November through the spawn.
BassinWithBuck Closest one to me is Braidwood lake, next would be Heidecke lake, then next closest which is the most lake like would be Clinton lake, which half of that is a cool water side i believe. But thats 2hrs from me, Im in Joliet IL I mine as well look into driving north for smallmouth as well.
There is nothing like finesse tubing. However, I LOVE power fishing slightly bigger tubes by flipping them in thicker grass and under docks in that stained to slightly muddy water. None of those bass see tubes and I love to show them something different, especially where I live where all our lakes are super pressured.
My brother is a tuber. He kicks my but sometimes on a tube. Oh and I bought those tatula lt spinning reels in 2000 and 3000 size last Christmas. These reels are amazing for the price. So light great drag and the looks are killer. I like them even more then the Stradic ci4s
Loving that 7’6 medium tatula for the tubes, found the elite (ML) had too much tip for me fishing primarily deeper water. That 7’3 underspin elite is a real sleeper for ned rigs as well
@@tacticalbassin I discovered this video while searching & researching videos on snapping or crackin' a tube. Its something that fascinates me, which I'd like to learn to employ at one of my local smallmouth lakes! Tim sounds like he's kind of doing that by keeping it moving, but not in the same manner as Zona. I got tired of dragging a tube years ago, but the bouncing of the slack line and the erratic movements style puts a whole new spin on tube fishing!
Not many guys where I live use the Ned rig yet but every one has tubes tied on at tournaments 😁. I think the ned will get more bites but the tube can get bigger bites.
I fish a tube alot in fall, but i don't finesse it. I use a 3/8 or 1/2 oz head in a 3-1/2 strike king coffee tube & jerk the piss out of it. The fast reaction & fall of that heavy head really gets the active fish's attention. I throw it on 12 to 15lb pline c21. 7' heavy extra fast falcon bucoo rod, lews 7.5:1 speed spool. Bites almost always come on the fall.
Who remembers the flying lure? My parents bought me a kit when I was a kid. Those suckers would actually Glide backwards under cover. I wonder why they don't make them anymore they kind of look like a tube but they were flat. Me and my cousin were just talking about guy we seen flipping a magnum tube here in Florida. I think it was 10 inches Long. Not sure if he caught anything on it but I've definitely never seen anything like it.
A Gary Yamamoto “FAT IKA” does the same. Its a glider that gets under cover like docks, overhanging trees and such. Especially fly lined on a 3/0 EWG hook rigged with its skirt tail towards you. Every lift /tug it goes far back gliding. It gets it done when its tuff. Thank me later!! Tight lines!!
Old Hickory, The Fat Ika is very soft and it may handle 1-3 fish at most. But will get lots of bites guaranteed, especially as it falls(gliding) Watch for the line tick or pop and rip some lips Bro!
The ole gitzit as my Dad calls em. I got away from the tube when the ned rig started killing the smallmouth for me. I've seen macroinvertebrates in the back of smallys throats so I like to think the ned rig can mimic that kind of forage too. I think it's time to give the tube some love again, the ned rig doesn't produce for me the way it did for a few years
Oh I almost forgot, ever try slow, straight swimming a tube? It is another presentation I don't feel a ton of bass see. It looks so lifelike and subtle when those tentacles just undulate softly.
Thanks Matt for the bank anglers shout out and Tim I love all your finesse tips .I grew up fishing for rainbow trout just got into bass last year and both of you put all the info inline would love to see some live feed Q&A some time .keep it up guys . Also I was wondering what the difference between the dobyns 742 vs the 7'6" daiwa meaning sensitivity ,lightness, balance and over all feel?
Most of the waters I fish don`t have bass in so I use all info for any type of fish on plastics to use I go after what ever is in the water where I`m at use of grubs tubes and paddle tails
Tube jigs, Tail Spinners, Spoons, Split shot/ Mojo rigs are proven old school hog snatchers. They have gone under the radar due new fads/ trends. Thanks for touching up on Tubes Boys!!! Tight Lines!
PLEASE DO A VIDEO THAT COMPARES THE WHEN, WHERE, AND WHY OF TOPWATER POPPERS VS TOPWATER PROPBAITS LIKE A RAPALA SKITTER PROP FOR EXAMPLE!!! Thx in advance lol.
Love tubes! Great video. I'm primarily a bank fisherman, and normally rivers; any good pointers for guys like me? Tim and Matt, the yin and yang of power and finesse fishing!
P.s. wish there was a way to share pics with TB. Got lots of good pics of quality fish from Indiana that I would like to share; and entice you to come fish with me!
Thank you guys! living in the east bay seeing a lot of deep clear clear reservoirs. Given a reservoir like what you described, what's the difference between fishing a jig this way compared to a tube? Are they similar outcomes? Do you find the small profile of the tube is more effective because of clarity? Or is the jig better because of it's more secondary actions? Thanks again! Love the vids.
Yeah I live in Florida and it's been extremely hot and our water temps are very high. I found the earlier you can get on the water the more you will catch and the better quality of fish. Sometimes I'll fish an hour before the Sun never comes up and I'll have five fish before the sun breaks the horizon. By 11:00 you might as well go home because it's approaching a hundred degrees where I'm at and the fish have moved off the edge and have shut down. I've been doing good on top water. But I downsized my frog to a bully wa 2 55, which is a small frog. I've noticed that there on the outside edge of grass lines in my area. Hope this helps good luck. Hang in there hopefully things will cool off soon and fish and will pick up.
@@Mjones8383 no doubt about it man your state is an awesome place to fish, beautiful fisheries. I agree mornin I flipped into grass and under docks but when that hot sun came out mid day I had to move off shore. To bring fish to the scale in the tournament. I had to take a drop shot and shakey head off shore into some deep holes and got on some quality bites. That Alabama heat is no joke brother!!!!
Well it all depends on where you throw a tube. They generally should be thrown in places with little weeds, deep, and more clear lakes. See I live in Michigan so as long as the lake is deep and not that weedy I’m good.
@@grandfishing590 I live in the North and you can't throw anything it's basically crankbait, wacky rig or Texas rig and if you're lucky a jig I have to drive like 40 minutes to actually be able to throw baits like spooks , spinner baits, buzz baits , chatterbaits, swim baits and soft plastic creature baits
I've only bobber fished my childhood but now have been trying to get into sport/bass fishing in Wisconsin. My issue is I just haven't caught any bass on lures. Once caught a 32 inch northern pike but that's it. Where do you suggest I start with rigs for either murky chocolate milk rivers or very clear lakes/ponds? Michigan is so big it intimidates me so I haven't tried the big lake yet.
Matt, Thank you for the question for us 1000's of bank guys watchingvyour vids. I appreciate anytime u guys give us bank guys specific info to help us out.
Great video. I want to mention that your link for the Bite Me heads is incorrect. Also, while I understand and appreciate that always using a 1/4 ounce head helps in familiarizing yourself with the weight as you mentioned, is fall rate never a factor that you play with? It seems particularly influential with smallmouth in my admittedly much more limited experience.
Have you guys ever heard of a spring fed lake?.....how do you fish them its somewhat round with 3 docks on it if thre is anything you guys know about this type of lake id like to know how to fish it thanks
You talk a lot about east coast midwest and west. Do you have pointers for us here in the mountain states. Im in colorado and the fishing here stinks. I would love to challenge you guys to a solid day on some of my fishing spots. 1 fish a day or even 1 fish a week is a good day or week. Any pointers?
Tim & Matt!!! Off topic question!!! Coming into the fall transition and fishing the Toyota Big bucks Tourney on Table Rock next month. Looking to throw the 6" trash fish some! What blade runner hook size would you recommend for the 6"?
