@@thanospatrick9093 I like how you frame it as “sitting at home doing nothing,” when raising a kid in the early days involves a lot of sleepless nights and trying to adjust to parenthood. What do you think they're doing, having a picnic? This culture of putting work before family is bullshit, there was a time where the village helped parents when they had a child and it worked really well. The double standard is that they think they're in favor of family values but in practice their policy hurts families and if the government used tax dollars to help reduce the workload on parents you'd have less imploded families and less messed up children.

"There's not much to do when you're a dad" sounds like something a useless waste of space dad would say. You can change diapers. You can bottle feed even with breast milk. You can watch the baby so your spouse can do other stuff. Good dads don't have to be asked to spend time with the baby.

Technically, it was Tucker's _mom_ who bailed. Matt and Steven on the other hand were definitely latch key kids, neither parent loved them... I guess Tucker as well since he was shipped out to private school. Childrearing in conservative households really seem like contractual obligations, if they weren't _expected_ to sire offspring in their name of their religious/political beliefs most of them wouldn't even be here.

What is wrong with paternity leave? I appreciate this isn't the exact situation in this case but have these people never seen what a mother goes through in childbirth? Particularly in cases where they've had a c section, the surgeons cut through abdominal muscle and tissue and it's incredibly difficult even just to pick up the child. Supporting women in the early stages of parenthood is the least that fathers can do.m.

Wow! My 2nd born was a 1 1/2 month preemie.. They had the IV, light, the whole bit and we saw him everyday.. The doctor kept saying "we don't know if he's going to make it", which we NEVER believed.. Spoiler Alert: He's now 32, on his merry way and showing no signs of letting up..😁 (Edit) Forgot to mention he was almost in the cab on the way to the hospital..like on tv..LOL

Not gonna comment whether or not politicians should be held to different standards, but it's not snoozing on the job, it's a full time job to take care of an infant. Whether the company pays leave or the government pays it, I don't care. Giving children the best chances at development they can get is exactly the kind of thing I'd want my tax money paying for. (Also, comparing a man going off golfing and a man doing the important work of childrearing is absolutely shameful, I can't believe I actually had type that sentence out)

I have two kids. First one I was working 70 hours a week because mom and I couldn’t afford any other solution in order for her to stay home. Few years pass, child two comes along, we’re older and have better jobs. Got a month and a half off paternity leave. Yes I didn’t breast feed my daughter but it was leaps and bounds of difference for mom’s recovery and mental well being. I got to bond with my newborn baby. 100% all around different. Personally I think new parents should get at least 3 months paid minimum.

The idea of paternity leave needs to be much more normalized. Even in a nuclear family, Mom needs a break sometimes. When my daughter was born, I asked for parental leave, and one of the people in the chain actually called it maternity leave. You couldn't fix one letter?

We should get Matt Walsh, Steven Crowder and Tucker Carlson's wives on the record stating how much easier raising their children could have been had their fathers had paternity leave. Also seem to remember Tucker Carlson taking a week off work to go fishing with his son???? Interesting. Thought bonding with your child was the most homosexual thing you could do, according to Tucker. (Edited to add this): Nothing like stating you offer paternity leave, then also calling someone a derogatory and demeaning word to essentially dissuade them from even using it. What a toxic work environment. Essentially a room with no windows that is freshly coated with lead-based paint every single day that these "manly men" breathe in everyday and just kill more functionality in their brains.

Two things: -Crowder was born in Québec. Probably has some internalised francophobia following the anti french systematical insulting and defamation in the early 2000s (cf his take on Québec). Among other internalised things, quite possibly ! -stay at home mom is a "white", racist and sexist thing. It's a thing in many arab countries, native american ones, etc. So much for the "white", and "racist". As for sexist, considering it's a choice...Societies have specialised its members for centuries based on physical or physiological differences. Sexed, yes. Sexist, depends. the fact that many in the right wing spew rubbish by the kilotons shouldn't make you forget you can be wrong too.

They are obviously completely unaware of any concept of developmental psychology.. The whole first year is pretty damn impactful! Also, it's very common in some places to split the time where for example if you have 18 months of parental leave the mother's at home the first 9 months and the father the subsequent 9 months. Obviously this is not a general example and not even close to reality in in most of the world.. yet.

Pretty sure the issue was thay he volunteered to serve publicly and then went and adopted a child shortly thereafter. I have no issue with either, but it seems poor decision making to do both simultaneously.

A baby needs both parents after birth! When the baby is born the baby needs to eat every 2-3hrs this will keep the mother from resting and from recovering. Diaper changes for example the father or other parent will be needed. A few weeks to a full month seems ok. Talking from experience. It's not easy on the mother.

If his job offers it, why would he not take it? It's his right. It's an earned benefit. Didn't they used to be in favor or rights? And let's not pretend that these aren't the same ghouls who used to bemoan women getting maternity leave or even working at all. I was born with tubular breast deformity, a congenial abnormality. Basically, if you have this deformity there is a very high chance you can never lactate. Sometimes people with mild cases can produce a little milk, but several doctors told me the severity of my case almost guaranteed that I could never breast feed. I was fortunate enough to get surgery to correct the aesthetics of them so they adhere more to western beauty standards, but they are effectively obsolete. It sounds like conservative pundits have decided that should I ever have a baby, since I can't breast feed, I should just immediately go back to work and let my baby sit in a dark room for 8 hours plus commute time because there's no use in being around it if I can't breast feed it. It's not like you can form a psychological bond with them that's important to their mental development during infancy. /s
