@@Spooky_515 I live near Toledo...the attendance record in our old arena was set by Hulk Hogan for a WWF card the day after Christmas in 1987. That's normally when WWF ran the Garden for a huge show. Found that card online...Honky and Macho Man headlined the Garden day after Christmas. You don't get more over than that
You have to pay to talk to Honky he is all business. If it was a big convention it was probably part of the payment to be at the show paid by the media outlets.
Hogan was the World Champion for four-years. That record still stands. Hulk has accomplished a lot however, so he doesn’t milk that like HTM has to milk his only accomplishment that was only given to him cause he was a Hogan stooge.
Loved watching him oblivious to the boos and hatred with a big grin on his face, acting like everyone loved him. Bring back the 80's,it was so good. Saturday night main events were amazing.
Still looks great. He's a great example that you don't have to do a bunch of ridiculous stuff in the ring if you can get heat, sell and get the crowd to respond to what you're doing.
I think the majority of people in the business and fans at the time felt the same way about Taker. He was entertaining and unique, but I don't think anyone would've imagined that character being a mainstay. No one foresaw it evolving into a multilayer "phenom".
I saw a video of him before he was doing the HTM gimmick amd he was damn good looking guy actually! Probably could have been a baby face under the rigjt gimmick.
I was hoping he was gonna ruin Mr. Gunther record run. Could you image the pop if he was in the front row sitting next to Chad's family in disguise as Grandma GABLE. As soon as the big German turns around out comes the Guitar.
@@gilson1982 Or people that actually know wrestling and don't talk out of their asses. I went to wrestling a lot as a kid. And yes, I wasn't having much sex at 7 years old. When I was going, Hogan was the champ, but Bruno was still wrestling. The older fans would tell me about him.
@@had1toomany114 - It’s a fake sport, dude and it’s primary targeted audience are children and teenagers. The majority of people outgrow wrestling when they become adults. Wrestlers probably mock fans like you.
Honky went through a phase about 10-15 years ago where he was coming across as somewhat nasty and bitter in interviews. I don't know what was going on in his life at the time but he seems so much more relaxed and happy these days. Good to see.
Always nice to see the interviews and documentaries honky tonk man does he was a great wrestler and never has anything really bad to say about the men and women he worked with all those years ago
That aint true. He has said nasty things about Jaek Roberts and even his cousin Jerry Lawlor. Many others Warrior, Bulldogs, Vince, etc. Not that there is anything wrong with that. I like wrestlers to be honest.
I think Taker worked because he went all in for it not because it was an inherently brilliant idea. If he wasn't doing the makeup and the eyes rolled back and the zombie like movement and was just Texas Red in a hat and duster it would have flopped.
@@humbleking800 - Or it’s because he wasn’t talented enough. The man couldn’t wrestle to save his life. He didn’t even know how to play the guitar. Mic skills was all he had.
Wonder if he has to get permission every time he wants to use the HTM name and gimmick. I heard The Rock just got ownership of that name which, again, I wondered if he always had to get permission.
It is amazing the people who believed that HTM was a "bitter, angry mark." He was clearly working at the time and the marks bought it hook, line and sinker. He used it to promote his sot interviews and indy matches.
What did they do with the real Honky Tonk Man and how did they find such a good lookalike? All of the other shoot interviews that I've seen of Wayne Ferris show him cursing everyone. His attitude bears no resemblance to the attitude of this genial Comic Con attendee. I note that the subject of Jake the Snake Roberts and "the guitar shot" wasn't brought up in this segment.
he was a great gimmick wrestler. nothing to take away from him but he sure wasnt no bret hart; Shawn michaels, Austin type of wrestler but he always kept us entertained
he looks pretty good! He seems to be a genuinely good guy that loves his fans! as far as Pro Wrestling he’s a national treasure! very humble not a narcissist 👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️👍👍👍
HTM seems a little older and his voice a little weaker. That comes with age. But HTM is still the greatest Intercontinental Champion ever! Never should have dropped the belt to the Ultimate Warrior. Warrior made that belt look bad where as Honky Tonk Man made lt look like a million bucks!
@@s.salazar6364 anyone that thinks a wrinkly old man with shoe polish on his head looks 58 and not 70 is the true "mark". not to mention a goofy little bleep that feels the need throw out the stupid over used wrestling words like "mark" you goofy "mark"
I always loved the wrestler HTM, but met the guy once and he was a total jerk. He was at one of these cons and when I approached him he pretended to have Laryngitis. I was a fan of his and probably would have bought one of his photos, but after that I am like what a jerk and unfortunately think different of him. He is like pay me $20 to see my laryngitis go away. Pathetic.
