Former NWA, WCW and WWE wrestler Tully Blanchard on how his career in Wrestling was derailed and how his faith in God lead him on a new path in life. He reveals his true thoughts in this shoot interview.
Wow. What a great testimony. Tully Blanchard will go down in history as one of the all-time great pro wrestling heels. Growing up watching the Four Horsemen, man I hated his guts. Now, I have so much love and respect for him for the man of faith that he has become. Great video, and kudos.
I basically said the same thing. I remember the four horseman before they were named the four horseman. They were all the total package and could do it all. The manager was even good on the mic. People talk about the NWO but I remember the four horseman. They weren't outsiders coming in to take over but they took over Georgia Championship Wrestling.
On the horsemen dvd dusty rhodes said the crowd loved all the horsemen the crowd used to boo Tully into next yr he was such of a great kayfabe fans had heat with him that s a good heel right there
That Saturday night segment where Magnum TA came out (after his injury) and Tully confronted him was one of the most memorable Saturday night segments and shows for that matter. I respected and admired Tully so much for how he put Magnum over without demeaning himself.
He was definitely legit. One of the most underrated wrestlers in my opinion. He could do it all. Great on the mic, great in the ring, drew money and beat everyone. Arn too.
@@TruthBTold- I used to watch Georgia Championship Wrestling every week. This was when Ric Flair was the NWA champion for years. These guys were the best of the best. They weren't aftaid of anyone. They fought them all and eat them all. And they cheated if they had too. As good as the Monday Night wars Attitude Era was it doesn't even compare to watching Georgia Championship Wrestling ad a kid.
Tully Blanchard said that when he wasn't allowed to go back to the NWA in 1989 it was the beginning of the end of the Four Horsemen. You know what, the group was never the same again. By the way, it's great to hear that Tully got his life in order.
The Horsemen died in September 88, when Arn and Tully left to WWF. Every incarnation of the group post 88 is an embarrassment to what the group was all about.
Thats the point, he was a Heal and if you hated him he was doing his job and man was he good at it. Like the villain in a movie, if you hate him, he is a good actor. Tully was the greatest heal ever!!! Bravo Sir!!
It's quite a blow when you find yourself out of work. Real stressful. $750,000 contract not being fulfilled; WOE ! But you didn't give up, Tully. God bless brother.
For those that are nothing but hatefull atheist that bash on people that find a better life thru a higher power, go see if your life gets better by packing that fudge all day.
Tully and Gino were an unbelievable heel combination. They were both great in the ring, knew how to work the mic, sold extremely well, and drew unbelievable heat. Unfortunately, drugs took Gino way too early. He would have made a great Horseman.
That woulda been some kinda hot shit. The heel electromagnetism might've thrown the Earth off its axis. Have to wonder if those two roosters could've keep it together, though.
Mr. Blanchard is another wrestling legend. Second generation wrestler, father of the great Tessa Blanchard, and a born again christian. Thank you for the great wrestling memories.
The demons of drugs and the loss of his career led him to find Christ which definitely was a win for him he definitely will go down as one the best performers ever.
I guess best that can be said is that using drugs was his decision and we live with what we do and move on with our lives... nobody can ever take away the Greatness of what Tully did in Wrestling business and the proof is that over 20yrs later Tully can get an audience anywhere he appears..now he's in another state of his life with a talented Daughter that's doing well and he's at peace with himself...I'd say he did ok and that he's a true survivor in game of Life!
I hear you. I was working all day, freebasing pretty much every night. Lost my job, got clean and been sober almost five years now. When I got fired the madness ended.
Praise God for Tully's testimony. I know the peace he's talking about when he called on the name of Jesus. It's a peace you can't understand unless you know Him.
Tully was a great heel. Tully was the best member of the 4 Horsemen. Wcw should have given Tully a break and rehired him to take stings place in the 4 Horsemen.
mike de julia You're right. I saw that interview too where Ric said HE blocked Tully's return because they were going to give him more $ than AA. That's why he called TB at 1am to tell him the deal fell through. Ollie is right too - Flair is the Shits.....
Joe Blanchard, Tully's dad, was the promoter for SW Championship Wrestling. The Sheepherders, Chief Wahoo, Eric Embry, Bobby Jaggers vs Killer Brooks in a yellow stripe bull rope match, etc. Great stuff!
Tully was the best between 605 and 805 superstation and if you feel different your wrong Tully had it all his interviews felt real in rig performance the best better then flair and Ric's the man Tully could possibly be the greatest in ring performer ever when you watched Tully you believed it hard not to like him if your 17 and pissed
so is bacon, and biscuits and gravy and money and education and analytical thinking skills and not holding up society based on a book written by sheep herders, and.... I'll stop. Yeah god's a great thing, been helping me with my bills and taxes ever since i started church I SWEAR TO GAWD HE HAS!
Oh I forgot, here's your Jesus brownie point for sticking up for him, it's all about doing good for Jesus, and not what's decided on to be best by current educated people for the whole of humanity in 2017
The "Reverend" Tully Blanchard I met face to face at a "Weekend Of Champions" (he'll know what that was & where it was) through my state of employment in the early 1990's, on the surface, seemed like a very friendly outgoing individual, and initially very easy to talk with. I had the chance to talk with him for about 10 minutes, and the last thing I asked was a question about his wrestling career. I don't remember what I asked him, but the look I got in response, was meaner and nastier than any look he ever gave any of his former co-workers on camera. He then told me "get the fuck away from me" and then stormed off like a scolded dog. If I could ever again have the chance to meet him face to face, the only thing I would say to him is WWOOOOOOOOO
Oh I forgot, here's your Jesus brownie point for sticking up for him, it's all about doing good for Jesus, and not what's decided on to be best by current educated people for the whole of humanity in 2017
And using it always has been a matter of emphasizing a strong feeling about the subject at hand. Overuse can indicate too much, out of control feeling.
When I first find out that Tully accepted Christ I didn't believe it at first! "That big creep accepted Christ?", I thought, not him! Then I heard this video and I think he's real! Well, all I can say is: God bless him! He made the right choice!
This is awesome I didn't expect him to turn toward Jesus I got to get closer to God was once close lost a 7 yr nephew to cancer which I found helping doing his catscan. Knew God would save him he died Year later let me know how weak my faith is got so far from God. Today I struggle with a battle only God can beat.
I think it is a shame that some atheist people feel the need to mock or attack religious people. I don't understand it, it isn't your life, no need to worry ;) If someone has found peace and happiness, that's a good thing. It doesn't matter if it isn't the path you would choose.
Caz Tweedy lol, and just ignore the influence on voting power ... leading to discrimination and telling the rest of us what's right or wrong. when they stop indoctrinating children and stop trying to force others to follow their bullshit version of morality, then and only then will I even consider not mocking religious turds.
You ought to make a shoot on Tully losing his hair! LOL j/k we used to see him in the early eighties in Southwest Championship wrestling. back then he was a heel!
@@FuckYouWhosNext and Bruiser Bob Sweetan swore revenge that day (if only we knew then what we know now about that guy)! I liked Eric Embry with anonymous partners as The Hollywood Blondes better. Man, he came out and called Mexican grapplers "pepper bellies'" and I thought that was some mighty fine shit-talking
@@tvtitlechampion3238 i remember when Manny Fernandez said he was going to 'beat the beans' out of some one!! LOL as for Sweetan i think he had some marital issues. someone mentioned that Southwest was the smaller promotion because of Houston but we used to see all the Houston wresters as well. Hell, ive seen many bruiser Brody matches, Tully and Gino, sheepherders, Chavo Gurrero, the Spoiler
@@FuckYouWhosNext it was one of the few grapplin' shows that featured two separate live announcers speaking different languages simultaneously. It made perfect sense given where it was located. Loved that VFW hall feel, with the cloud of smoke hanging over the ring, the rafter support pole next to the ring post, and the cowhide belt was fantastic. I've always thought the best grapplin' was like lo-fi Fight Club, and this fit the bill. What I was referring to with Sweetan was him getting convicted of raping his own daughter. Now, that is some unsavory shite.
So if it was only going to be a 6 week suspension for WWF why could he have not gone back there? I love Tully but it always seemed like there was something more to this. Plus he did work for AWA after that.
Tully was probably one of the best heels to ever step in the ring. He had an intricate understanding of the business. The guy knew how to work a crowd and draw heat. It is shame his personal demons eventually caught up with him.
The WWE never wanted him or Arn to succeed.. Back then they would just sign NWA/WCW guys just so they wouldn't be with the competition... Vince was always cold and ruthless...
During this clip, I kept listening for some sort of remorse. Some sort of ownership in what happened, and I didn't hear any. NOT ONCE did Tully say 'Yes, I screwed up, I'm sorry.' NOT ONCE did he apologize, not only BECAUSE he screwed up, but also not to Arn for costing HIM almost $150,000 over a 3 year period. I was a teenager in 'wrestling heaven' (Baltimore in the 1980's). Not only did the WWF come to my town every month, but the NWA (Jim Crockett Promotions) also came to my town every month. I will always have enormous respect for Tully Blanchard, the wrestler. Tully Blanchard the man, however, leaves A LOT to be desired.
I'm from Cecil county Md...in the 80's I was a kid who was so in to wrestling..I couldn't wait to see it every weekend. ..it was a special time in Baltimore back then..the music scene in the city. ...the clubs..and the Wrestling! WOOOO!
Cussing I find is such a problem that when I cursed at school and then tried talking at home I was stuttering at home cause I didn't have the proper words to put in its place.
I think if Tully were to go to the AWA he may have been able to turn things around for him and the AWA. I know he was there for a little bit but if he would have gave it a real go it could have been something special. Just imagine Tully vs Larry Zbyszko for the AWA World title. It could have drawn money. I'm not sure who would have been the babyface lol. Something to think about.
He did work indies..... He worked the early ECW shows when it was known as Eastern Championship Wrestling but yeah he should’ve tried to get over to Japan but I don’t think he did.
It sounds like he was tired and ready for a change. It also sounds like it surprised him as much as it surprised everybody else. He sounds so calm here, but I'd have to wonder how he was at the time. I imagine he was a shit show for a while.
...just saying not only did TULLY-BLANCHARD-""get screwed out of his LIVEly Hood'''...but i still don't understand why HIS PATENTED'''...SLING-SHOT-SUPREME"""...(-is a thing of Beauty-)...hasn't been used since ...!!..
Right. Flair boycotted Tully's contract because it paid more than Arn was making at the time, like it's his business. The cocaine black mark was a ruse to keep Flair in the WCW. Tully got screwed but good out of money that should've been his. Flair is a giant POS for his back stabbing. It's great that Tully survived and doesn't seem to harbor ill will, but that money could've made life a little easier. Fucking Flair!
It baffles me as to how many people in the world can't hear gods name without becoming disgusted. It's not good enough for them to disbelieve in god, they have to discredit and prove otherwise as well. I understand that a lot of folks do not believe in God, but why do you have to hate another man who chooses to as well?
Im an athiest and it disgusts me also, Just because it doesnt work for them doesnt mean it doesnt work for others, And it saved Tullys life so we have proof it worked for him. People would be better servered if they kept thier pie holes closed
Well said, doesn't bother me that your an atheist...none of my business, if it works for you, I'm all for it, I'm not an atheist and I'm sure you could care less...........you see how it works people? eaaaaaaasey
