Its an alternative to the cat can stove if you have a larger pot. Using a tuna can stove can give a great flame pattern, great stability, and still only 1.5 oz's.

thanks for the showing. I made holes in a can with push pins, then I took sharp point end scissors and put them into the push pin holes and moved the scissors in a circular motion to make holes. it worked

This is so much easier than the "precision engineered" Foster beer can or soda can stoves. IOW, this stove is not only sturdier, but within the limits of my patience to make. Thanks.

Thanks for the idea. Have made many Cat Can, and aluminum beverage can stoves. Impressed by the way that you've adapted the cat can concept to tuna cans. I believe that the principle can be carried a bit farther by using a canned chicken, or potted meat tin if an even greated diameter is required, for larger pots ... thanks for the useful video ... Cheers.

I’ve watched a lot of these videos and I like yours the best. Its better than just a cat food can and alcohol but not as complicated and difficult to make as many “garages engineers” make them to be.

so if the holes have to line up don't drill the side holes until after assembly. that way they will line up with no duplication of effort and the assembled stove will be a more sturdy thing to drill into.
@All_Things_Out_Doors
@All_Things_Out_Doors 7 лет назад
George B. Wolffsohn your right but when you try that the inner can folds because of being flimsy tin when the drill bit hits it. I'm sure someone who uses a drimmel or maybe more skilled could have managed that but for me the effort really wasn't that strenuous. :-)

You can just drill the holes after they are compacted together, it will be stronger to drill through. I also put some cotton balls or any 100% cotton fabric in side. That works great if you will be traveling so it doesn't spill... Nice video thanks.

Hi a little tip,pack some fibre glass will inside of the stove,that way the alcohol will be absorbed into the fiberglass wool,and stop it from slushing about inside the stove on the move,and also saves the alcohol that is left inside the stove after use by not wasting it trying to pore it back into a container after being in use.
@IronHexacyanoferrate
@IronHexacyanoferrate 2 года назад
Actually your tip is even better than just preventing the fuel from sloshing, since it’ll also prevent a potential explosion caused by alcohol vapours combusting very quickly.

Search for penny stove they make them out of soda cans. It’s really easy it’s got alcohol in it. You can put insulation in them to hold the alcohol. They tend on leaking if they fall over. It’s an easy fun way to make one.

you can also use the rope that you sometimes find for sealing the doors on wood burning stoves. It won't burn, can handle the high temperatures and will absorb the alcohol so it will not slosh around.

Interesting design but as another commenter suggested. Drill the holes, at least for the inner can after it is inserted. Also the obvious question. Most backpackers, which honestly is the biggest reason for using an alcohol stove, are concerned about weight. Why on earth would you want to carry an over sized and in the case of the one shown, very heavy pot?

Very creative use of tuna cans for a more stable base. Just wondering two things and please bear with me, as I am New to making these: 1) if super cat 🐱 stove is open on top, is the advantage of being closed on top top aid in stability? 2) what is the smallest size diameter pots can this stove accomodate ? Thank You very much for sharing this information
@All_Things_Out_Doors
@All_Things_Out_Doors 7 лет назад
Bradley Mann I don't know that there is any advantage on Burn time. The main cause of putting the can inside as a top lid was really strengthened up the side walls; Tin bends extremely easy. If you look at the pot I put on top of the stove at 55 seconds I've actually used that stove and pot combination it works pretty well. But for wider pots that are out there a wider base seems to be way more stable.
