It will be a good idea to mandate homeowners to maintain their property but from what I see, nothing works in tt. I use to go to Back street, Tunapuna as a child to spend holidays. Good times, we went to the river, had fun. We use to go to a bakery on the main road for fresh hops bread. I understand that bakery is still there. Thank you.

Looks like it's trying to survive the Covid pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, throughout the days, and especially weekends, Tunapuna was always jammed packed with pedestrians and vehicles. I'm hopeful for Tunapuna and all of T&T...
@deborahbarzey-wellington3017
Actually there were three cinemas in Tunapuna. MONARCH, obliquely opposite the Tunapuna market, the building is hidden by vendors to the front. PALLADIUM at the back of SEETARAM shoping centre and EROS which is now Discomart supermarket previously, Foodmasters. LOVE YOUR CHANNEL. and yes, I was a cinema "peeong" 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁

First generation American who spent most of my childhood in trini from living here a few years to visiting 3 or more times a year since my parents own their home here. I truly enjoyed the times, however I never knew Trinidad to look so downtrodden and dirty. I remember bright homes clean with fruit trees growing from Port Of Spain, to Bartaria where wonderful times were spent. I would love to see people just paint. It's like citizens have forgotten that outside appearance is important!

@ 20:57 that NP Gas station I used to wait for the PTSC Bus back in the late 70's to go back home after attending Tunapuna Boy's R.C school which was next to the cemetery, I'm glad to see that the Tunapuna Library is now a modern type of building in the 70's it was an old wooden building built in 1948 same with the Court house too. I remembered as a child my cousins dragging me to the Catholic Church on the main rd one Sunday and getting Communion from an Irish Priest, even though I'm Anglican it was all good to me.

Walking from Auzonville Road to school in the morning then walk back home for lunchtime, and back to school again till 3 o clock. I have many memories, going to the market early Sunday morning. That newspaper article couple weeks ago on gangs in Tunapuna spells it all, which was quite specific and disturbing too! Now, do not get me wrong, I am alert and take precautions as I have had first had experience about how crime affects you but at the same time I got to do what I got to do as this channel is not for me but for others I love.

JB you know I love your channel, very much, but allow me to humbly but strongly disagree with you with likening Trinidad and Tobago to that old cinema, we are about the coconut water, the food the fun 😊💕 it's unfortunate that the cinema was left in that state, but they are lot's of beautiful 😍 places. If anyone is reading this go check out JB's video on Westmorings.. it's really beautiful and shows you another side of Trinidad oh and his drive to Princes Town or Point Fortin to Cedris shows the countryside. 😊 Really nice.😍
@JBsManCave
@JBsManCave Год назад
Halceon, please point to the timeline when I said that I was "likening Trinidad and Tobago to that old cinema...."
@halcexon
@halcexon Год назад
JB it was around 45:29 you were saying that the image you get of Caribbean life is different from what it really is and you pointed out the cinema you said "this is real life" ... "Real life" would be dependent on social status for lack of a better word, because you have shown me and am sure others beautiful places, places I did not know existed and because of your channel I will now explore.😎 But to say where the cinema 📽️ s depicts "real life" in Trinidad is not painting the full picture. 🙂😊🌅
@JBsManCave
@JBsManCave Год назад
Halceon, I can understand why you interpreted what I said as being in relation to the cinema. However, I believe you are missing the context and mixing two things. Start again, before the cinema event, from 45:05 wherein I previously refereed to "...this is life in Trinidad" referring to the kind of videos I create. I then went on to 'speak' to those who are not familiar with the Caribbean because tourists are often shown pictures of beach resorts and told that is the Caribbean. Then I said for Trinidad, that is not how it is because... what I show... the raw... is actually what is Trinidad. Now, having said that I reached the footage of Palladium and went on about the cinema... an entirely different topic saying, "and this is the cinema... who remembers...." Therefore, to say I was "likening Trinidad and Tobago to that old cinema" is not correct. Ironically, if you watch the whole of my videos you will note that I am unafraid to point out the amount of trash and weeds all over as a show of what Trinidad has become. Now if you were pointing towards that then I would say the evidence is in the videos. 😉 The cinema... nah, not related. Hope that clears that up.

That hotel was actually in St. Augustine and was renovated many years ago into apartments for rent by Jack Warner I believe.

This comment would be edited as I rewrite it during the course of the vid. Auzonville park has seen highs and lows. It is maintained fairly well through schedules and improvement projects. You probably just recorded at a time in between maintenance. The park saw many live shows like the one did by Aunty Kay, a popular radio show from the 1970s, to carnival promotions. In the earlier years of the park it was outfitted children slides, swings, a seesaw and later a merry-go-round. It even had a TV and benches to sit and watch from. The lows probably started when the youth from the area started playing football in the park which killed the grass due to constant trampelling and causing lots of dust. Also vagrants started making it their home under the band stand. This prompted the gating of the park. @3:18 Is the original building Supertech started renting. That would be around 2005. @4:32 Is the Salvation Army. Tunapuna businesses on the main road saw many fires. I firmly believe the insurance companies can tell us more about these fires. I am saying this in comparison to the number of fires at private dwellings. @6:31 used to be Circle S probably still is...fire! At the corner by the market...fire! Opposite the original Supertech building...fire! The "hangup store" @ 8:15 opposite the police station now a car park...fire! @ 10:05 The Tunapuna library is an old wooden structure. Removing the sheet metal facade covering it would reveal this. The Administration centre where the Court house is now used to be a building similar to the library and yes that's was where you would pay your land and building taxes, $15 in some cases. @13:27 The St. Charles R.C. Church used to be on the right of this compound whilst the Tunapuna Boys R.C. School used to be on the left. Both buildings were wooden stuctures on concrete pillars. The girls school further to the rear left has not changed substantially. There was an unused building to the rear right. What is now a walkway in the centre used to be the drive way and separated the buildings and went straight through the compound to Lashley street. Every thing was demolished but the Virgin Mary's grotto seen on the right of the compound and the 5th standard building of the boy's school which now has been annexed by the girl school. The boys school was rebuilt next to the cemetery seen later in your vid. Qualifying races were held on that driveway in preparation for sports day which took place at Constantine park Macoya. @14:50 That supermarket has not been there forever. Tunapuna once boasted of having 3 cinemas. Monarch, Palladium and Eros. Eros being the last to be built and the first to cease operations. It was converted to Foodmasters supermarket and now Discomart. Our agricultural minister Clarence can give you the details. The movies shown back then were mostly "Kickups", e.g. "Enter the Dragon", "Silver Fox", "Drunken master". Movie times were 12:30, 4:15, and 8:15 p.m. Becoming a man you had to be allowed to go to the 8:15 p.m. movies. @17:06 right after the Lawyers office used to be a record shop i.e. vinyl records in the 80's. @18:29 Never existed. There used to be an old wooden building there and bush. You had to drive all the way down to that delapidated gas station then turn right to get here coming from the highway. @ 38.28 That chrome plated fence has been there for years. Expensive, but a wise investment. @40:00 The world famous "Perseverance Hall" held many dances, fetes and blockos and has been rattled by the boom boxes of DJs like Fatman George, Dr. Hyde and the then famous Radio personality Renne Bishop who has since migrated and doing his thing abroad. @40:47 One of these properties used to be a lodge, could be this one and has been abandoned for a while now. @19:23 and @ 43:43 Pennywise. This building was one of the original locations for food stores with their signature gold bond coupons. They were made like a postage stamp and you would collect them at the cashier after making purchases and stick them in a booklet which you can redeem for gifts. @ 44:14 I remember the structure but it was taller. It was just a shell of a building. You think that after setting it ablaze so many times it might have become unsafe, lol! At the Palladium cinema I can remember watching the first "Star Wars" film in 1977 and also "Fatal Attraction" featuring Michael Douglas in 1987. At the Monarch cinema I can remember watching "The Poseiden Adventure" in 1972 and the movie "Earthquake" in 1974, and how can we forget "JAWS" in 1975.

Eulin, your experience in Tunapuna goes further back than mine for sure. Thanks so much for detailing it all. Please feel free to watch my other road trips / walk through videos and see if you can add any more historical information to it: ru-vid.com

@ 36.20 Yes this temple has been there forever and it offers one reason why certain people extend their dewelling homes to the perimeter walls of their property against the building code guidelines and much to the chagrin of the neighbours. They see absolute nothing wrong with it because that is what they observe and know from childhood coming to such a temple. @ 37:29 Freeling street used to be two way but as you correctly stated folks use these side streets for parking. We have done so on both sides of the street to the point where it was causing obstructions to the two way traffic. It was eventually partly made one way up to Wells street. This was also done to other side streets and back roads like Green st. by the traffic management branch of the corporation.

Yes! there was another cinema called Eros I think? Tunapuna Boy's RC school used to take us there sometimes to see old Hollywood movies like "Catballoo" etc, I remembered watching TV in that park at night!! I thought I was incorrectly remembering such a thing.
