Thank you! My friend's grandmother who I adored passed away a while back and my friend told me I should take her crafting material since no one else would want them... Well let's just say it was like an apprentice magician stepping into and old master wizard's magical cottage... her whole house was a perfectly kept time capsule of the late 60s. There were crafting things I had never seen before... Every size hook and needle you could ever imagine. Old patterns and books for everything. One tool was a super long crochet hook! I had never seen it before and now here I am amazed! I'm very excited to learn how to use this tool. I've been crocheting basically my whole life but I had no idea this existed! I miss her so much such a sweet woman and a talented crafter. Glad I am able to keep her tools and give them a new life in my home ❤️

I discovered Tunisian crochet about a year ago and have collected a number of hooks. I started using my 12" fixed Tunisian hooks for "regular" crocheting and discovered an interesting side benefit. I found myself holding the hook with my hand farther back on the shaft than I would normally do on standard crochet hooks. This meant that I could get greater motion with less work from my hand (it's difficult to explain with words), and I didn't get the same complaints in my carpal tunnel ligaments that I had previously had during extended periods of crocheting. Using the long Tunisian hooks has practically eliminated any wrist/forearm pain from my crocheting experience. I will NEVER go back to using standard length crochet hooks if I can help it!

If you use a knife grip and rotate the hook by rolling it between your fingers to catch loops you virtually don't have to move your wrist at all. Its also a lot faster.

Thank you for presenting this. Saw some Tunisian crocheting on Facebook and fascinated. As a left-hander I always found knitting awkward and unsatisfying - even when learning to do it "left". Learned to crochet right-handed, tho' I'm told my movements look weird. Tickled to discover I can "knit" as a crocheter. Will be ordering a starter set of long hooks.

Great video Toni! I started out doing Tunisian a few years ago making a scarf. All I could get was a metal hook with a rounder head and it made the experience miserable. I then watched your review on the Denise Interchangeable Set. I normally do not like plastic but they were such a great deal and were contributing to breast cancer research I bought them. What a HUGE difference for me. The glide into every yarn I’ve used them on like a breeze. I love them. As a knitter also I love my ChiaoGoo interchangeables sets and would definitely consider getting a set of them or the Clover. Metal just does not work for me with Tunisian but it is my go to for knitting. Go figure! Thanks for this great video!

If you already have some interchangeable knitting needles, check and see if the same brand makes interchangeable crochet hooks too. That way you can use the cords and stoppers for both. I have compatible sets and I really like the versatility this offers.

Love Tunisian! I bought every kind & type of hook I could find in the beginning-even those fancy Furls when they first came out. Bamboo or wood hooks are my faves: Clover/Takumi, ChiaoGoo, Knitter’s Pride with cables. I’m a little rambunctious & haven’t used the Furls as I’m afraid I’ll break them. Thanks for your insights Toni; when I see Tunisian & TL Yarn Crafts together, it’s a must-watch video!

OMG, what an eye opener, My first crochet project, an intricate doily, age 9, my grandmother, handed me a silver hook, and some satiny thread, I learnt it. But in the back of my head, I said, OK I will learnt it, but I will never touch yarn EVER. Few years down the road, age 13, I had been taught lots other crafts, cross stitch, needlepoint, knitting, sewing. cooking, baking, got engaged age 13, married 15. still hated crocheting, mother-in-law taught me newborn cardigan, booties, dress, I was hooked for life. I learnt lots over the years, still learn something daily, I love You Tube, but today you have blown me way, showing me these hooks and things you can do with them. Awesome, liked, subscribed. Thank you so much.

I found a bamboo 6.5 hook at Hobby Lobby today. I have one of your Tunisian Baby Blankets about half-way done. I got this far using a 10 in aluminum Tunisian hook, but then found the regular 6 (or whatever) inch aluminum hook was faster. Just wrapped a rubber band around the end to keep the stiches from falling off. I don't want to admit, however, to how many rows I had to tear out because i skipped stitches and didn't notice. Plus, it just took forever especially at the join spot trying to shove that fat little crochet hook in tight spaces. Plus, the shiny metallic surface blinds me! On to the new pointy bamboo hook I found. I love it! The yarn didn't glide over it very well at first so I went out in the garage and took some 0000 steel wool to it and then polished with some high end furniture wax. It's slicker than snot now! (lol). Its a short one, so I wrapped a rubber band around the end of that one too. Works great! And sooooo much faster, and I don't have to wear sunglasses to crochet anymore! You are so awesome! I'm so glad I found your channel! Thanks for all you do! God bless you!

Wow, just discovered your videos and love them! I’m a knitter exploring crochet and my question is regarding interchangeable hooks versus regular hooks. I currently only own a fixed inexpensive set of hooks to aid in repairs for my knitting. If I invested in an interchangeable hook set, could I also use them as “regular” hooks without the cable attached? Is that common? Is it feasible? I love knitting and want to start crochet, I’m very willing to make the investment in good hooks but I’d rather not have duplicates if I don’t need to. Thanks so much in advance for your reply!

When I started out in Tunisian crochet, I first collected individual hooks as I could find them in the "big box" craft stores; these were all Susan Bates hooks, and nothing larger than 6.5mm/K. I then found cheap sets of metal and bamboo Tunisian hooks, bamboo double-ended Tunisian hooks, and even cabled Tunisian hooks at Amazon.com (including that aluminum set you showed). I especially enjoy double-ended Tunisian, and have some Susan Bates double-ended hooks, as well as a Crochenit 9mm hook. (I think I probably have a cabled Crochenit hook as well, but haven't used it yet.) Most of those hooks (except for the Crochenit and cabled hooks) I keep in a long hook roll (which probably could be a knitting needle roll-up case, if I knitted) I received in a yarn swap a few years ago. I since have bought a set of Denise interchangeable hooks (although not one with double hooks in each size - so maybe I should get an extra set of hook tips from them for Christmas?). I haven't used them yet, but I love the pretty silk case they came in, and I definitely have used the coordinating notions pouches (and notions) Denise also sells. I should do some more Tunisian projects sometime soon; perhaps a whole bunch of dishcloths to use up my kitchen cotton stash?

I do like knitting more than crocheting, maybe crochet has large holes in the knitted part of it, knitting no holes at all, made a blanket for a bestie, she didn't want large holes, its for winter, although crochet would have been a lot quicker, I knitted it, took me a year. I have hooks all sizes but hurts my hand, I have had these metal hooks since the late 80s or 1990. I recently bought silicone handle one, much better pain wise in my carpel tunnel hands, but I do need to invest in a nice interchangeable one. I saw a video where a girl crocheted something and I was like all those years I spent buying sing;e hooks, and this one came in a beautiful pack with storage. I cant find here in UK, I miss California and Michaels and a couple of other large stores.

I have the aluminum hooks, my only suggestion is to maybe apply clear nail polish to the the stopper, as half of mine have the ink rubbed off, and the sizing is now gone.

Thanks for the information. I purchased the Furls tunisian hook and I didn't like it at all. The yarn got snagged where the hook appears to be connected and thier yarn dragged way too much. I wish they made a completely smooth hook or an aluminum version. The only thing I loved about it was the look. The Denise interchangeable hooks are by far my favorite. I just wish the shaft of the hook was longer.
