Yes - he put the whole story of Scrooge Mc. Duck on the album. This is on song there. He is a Disney fan and also Don Rosa fan. Don was pleased to join this. There is also a video where he and Don are interviewed by a Finnish Disney distributor and they discuss about the status of high quality comic books in general too.
"Tuomas Holopainen Don Rosa interview Radio Nova" With that you can find the interview in 3 short parts, maybe 6 minutes altogether. They tell the whole funny story about how this solo album and collaboration finally came to be. It took Tuomas about 15 years to make it happen. He wanted to write a soundtrack for Don Rosa's graphic novel. There is also a longer interview with them on the Aku Ankka channel. Aku Ankka = Donald Duck in Finnish. Tuomas and Don Rosa had a 7 hour marathon of signing books and CD's in Finland after the release of this album by Tuomas.
Yes and he paid everything by him self cause he did not get a record deal. But fortunately after the project he got one, The guy is Don Rosa from Disney. Tuomas met him breefly when he was an exchange Student In the US when he was 17.
Now you need to check out Auri. That's Tuomas, his wife who you just heard, Johanna Kurkela, and Troy Donockley from Nightwish. From their first album I love "Desert Flower". From the second "Pearl Diving".
Always nice reactions man. And yes, he made an album about Scrooge, The Life and Times of Scrooge. Really good one! Singers on this track Johanna Kurkela and Johanna Iivanainen. And of course Troy has a part as musician (low whistle, bodrhán, uilleann pipes) And you can see Don Rosa sketching.
I actually bought the book after falling in love with the album. Great read with my son. And he likes the old Disney stuff way more than Duck Tales btw. One more thing: AURI is amazing. Pearl Diving will get to you.
Don Rosa has visited Finland several times. His comic books are very popular here. I remember queueing at a book store for his autograph for one of my Scrooge McDuck comic albums for over two hours! He writes epic adventures, I'm not surprised Tuomas Holopainen loves his comics, too! Sadly he has retired now for losing a lot of his eye sight and getting disappointed with how the Disney company treats their comic book artists. On top of listening to Tuomas' album Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge, you also need to read the comics by Don Rosa (The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck)! 😊
Tuomas truly loved the comics as a child. :) He is inspired by his past, present, and future, by nature, by humanity, by great literature and the simple comic. Thankfully we get the outpouring of his inspirations in his glorious music. His other side project Auri with his wife Johanna and Troy is awesome too. I think 2 albums now.
Loved your reaction which mirrors mine the first time I watched this amazing video. I will never look at Scrooge McDuck cartoons in the same way again. Wow! The orchestra and Johanna killed this brilliant performance of Tuomas's composition. Beautiful and thrilling
It’s not Ducktales or Disney. Tuomas was inspired by the comics growing up. Wikipedia: It was based on cartoonist Don Rosa's The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck, a graphic novel which featured the Carl Barks Disney comics character of the same name. Rosa contributed the cover artwork. The first single, "A Lifetime of Adventure" was released on February 5, 2014 along with a music video directed by Ville Lipiäinen
Don's comic novel is a full Disney product though. I ordered the Deluxe Edition after watching Tuomas' video clip and an interview with him and Don about Don's work.
@@lekalla no, Scrooge McDuck is a native Disney character. Always has been. However in the USA he is only known through Ducktales rather than a character in the Donald Duck comics.
The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck is a comic, one that Tuomas Holopainen has said, would be the book he would take with him, if he only could have one while being stranded on an island. The older gentleman with him in the video is Don Rosa, the writer and artist of said comic, that came out around . . . gosh, 30 years ago now. . . I feel old. Anyway, I too grew up with said comics, and though I am a huge fan of them and treasure them highly. . . Tuomas have made such a beautiful tribute to not just the character of Scrooge, but also to that brilliant comicbook creator from the state of Kentucky. Fun fact about Mr Don Rosa. He is possibly one of the best known comic creators in Europe for his work on Duck Comics, while being virtually unknown in the US by comparison. Duck Tales might have been a huge thing on it's own, but the Duck Comics was what Disney ruled with in Europe. And Don Rosa (though he would certainly disagree) is the undisputed king of Duck comic creators. Nothing since have ever come close to the quality of work he has done.
Excellent, always thought it should be the soundtrack of a Scrooge movie. I got the CD in 2015 at a Nightwish concert. It is my understanding that Scrooge McDuck is a favored character in the northern European and Scandanavian region. The CD is well worth listening to.
Dude she gave me chills he is amazing how can somebody have so much talent you are right you have to be spot on to work with him I think this is about Walt Disney he's a big Disney fan you rock and are cool keep it metal
I also didn‘t know of this solo album! Thank you for letting all of us know! - now here‘s something else I didn‘t know until today and what you should know, too: Tuomas Is currently a member of another band, which is called: Darkwoods My Betrothed. But be warned, this is black metal music, not the music you might think of when you hear his name. As far as I know now he‘s become a permanent member of this band in 2020 and has played with them occasionally before 1998. Their latest album from 2021 is called Angel of Carnage Unleashed with Tuomas on keyboards.
I have gone into this album now. You can clearly hear his influence on the music, but I think you‘re right with that. Just was a bit shocked when I pressed the play button to the first song. I just wouldn‘t expect him being part of this band.
Ducktales is joke, Donald Duck comics are real thing here in Finland. Many of us can read before we start school, because we got that comic. It came Finland early 1950's. Mr. Holopainen is genius with his own music and when he borrow something he borrow from masters. Well done, you find this piece. Thank you.
Not just Finland. Some of the first things I read were the Barks' comics...and I ended up becoming a writer. Barks, and subsequently Don, have inspired a lot of people.
It is an album. The life and time of scrooge is a two volume set that has chapters of scrooge mcduck's life written and drawn by Don Rosa. Tuomas was a big fan and wrote songs for different stories in the books. There are great videos on youtube of Tuomas and Don Rosa telling the story.
the all album is great, you should listen to it ;) I personally love the song Cold Heart of the Klondike. Also remember to try Auri I'd suggest the song pearl diving. Auri is a project with tuomas, his wife Johanna and Troy.
I highly recommend that you check out Auri, a project of Tuomas Holopainen, his wife Johanna Kurkela, and Troy Donockley of Nightwish. They have released 2 albums so far (last one was in September of last year). It actually started with Johanna and Troy writing some music together a number of years ago, then Tuomas got involved. He has described Auri as "a little luxury yacht that runs circles around the giant lumbering tanker that is Nightwish". :) My favorite Auri song is Skeleton Tree from their first album.
Hey, if you like this, then you should definitely check out s side project of Toumas Holopaienen and his wife as the singer also featuring Troy, a group called Auri just a recent group, awesome thanks 😊 request 😀
pls. check out his other band AURI react to any of their songs... the band is composed of himself, his wife, and troy.... greetings nightwish silent army from the philippines....
Do you know this one? Auri - Tuomas, Johanna and Troy together. Magic too! If you not knowing it already, please do this one. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jiD_YdKCYTk.html
This is an album, I bought it several years ago. The whole thing is amazing. I almost bought the Scrooge McDuck book to go with it but it's quite expensive$$$$$🤑🤑🤑
