Although a little behind on interior quality, this Forester has one of the best CVTs making it a great option if you're in the market. The turbo 4, even with its turbo lag, is a perfect match for this crossover.
I bought one of these new in 2016. Jan of 2023 and 65,000 miles later, it has never burned any oil. The brakes are kinda crap - at around 30 mph, they suddenly move much further down to the floor in mine; the steering lacks feedback and after you turn the wheel 2/3's of the way, it pulls you into the turn, so handling isn't wonderul. The car accelerates great. It sucks that is requires premium, which in 2023 is like a dollar more than regular. I routinely get over 30 mpg in it though (it gets better milage in sport than intelligent for me - it actually gets better milage when you drive it harder). I've always changed oil at 4000-4500 miles, new filter, mobile one performance synthetic. Transmission gasket leaked and needed replaced at 55,000 miles, heater blower went out at like 2 years and was replaced. Both under warranty. Dealer replaced my rear shocks under recall and ripped out my bumper fasteners in the rear well, so that they can't be replaced, that was nice of them... Now you know my story. Lol.
Great video. I just have a few things to add. I have a 17 of this exact model. The oil consumption issue is on the 2.5 NA version only. I believe it's limited to the first few years of the redesign. There is no manual transmission available for any XT Forester since 15. The non turbo version has a 6 speed manual available. However the CVT is well sorted but has been plagued with some issues such as leaking since the redesign. Subaru recently extended the warranty of the CVT to 100k miles. 👍
I own a 2016 XT and a Cobb I’m pulling 280 plus hp and have embarrassed many a so called hot SUV ; and at $29,000 it was a real bargain. Ps. Kirk, if you want to hear an unreal sound, put the Subi in manual in S mode and keep it just below the shifting point for awhile- OUTSTANDING !
