Glad to hear it, I just signed for one like 3 hours ago, $2,000 down and $350 a month. Felt really nice on the drive home and surprised me with it's power.

It certainly delivers I the power department and the CVT transmission is one of the best I’ve ever driven as I usually despise them.

Still the original owner of a '14 Forester XT @ 161k miles. still love walking up to it. It has been mostly reliable, but here's what done so far off the top of my head: rear wheel bearings replacement @ 60k miles and again at 94k miles (I went aftermarket MOOG brand and haven't had a problem since), CVT valve body replacement (due to solenoid failure, but all covered by SOA @ 90k miles), AC compressor replacement @ 154k miles, control arms and all ball joints in both front left and right @ 158k miles. I've changed out spark plugs 3x, front and rear diff fluid 4x, transmission fluid once, brake fluid 3x, and super coolant flush once @ 120k. Not bad. Completely bone stock, NEVER wanted modifications for reliability purposes. One thing that does scare me is that there's been seepage as shown in TSB 16-103-16R. check it out. I'm way out of warranty to have a TSB covered - and this one seems to be $$$ since I assume it requires engine removal to get to the seal that needs to be addressed. Anyway, my plan is to just keep an eye on it and maintain the HT-CVT fluid levels myself which I recently did and only had to put in about 1/3 a quart of orange HT-CVTF. so, it's not that bad (and yes, using the proper procedure of warming up CVT, checking fill level, rotating P-R-N-D, etc.) hoping she'll get to 200k!

It’s lived a full life for sure and has plenty left in it. I would definitely say you got a ton of value out of it. They are an amazing balance of performance and reliability. Hope it gives you many more enjoyable miles.

Saved your comment, you did your research! Did you top up cvt fluid on cold and then reopened when it reached working temp? I assume trans fluid was changed when selenoid was replaced? Did you do anything for carbon buildup?

I bought a used 2015 XT with 72k miles a couple months ago. I'm somewhat surprised at your slower 0-60 times. Using Racebox, I got 0-60 times of 6.24, 6.34, and 6.69 (with some gravel on the road). The 6.24 time was with S# mode and the 6.34 and 6.69 were with S mode. I left foot braked and floored the accelerator pedal for a brief second before releasing the brake.

Those are great numbers. Every piece of equipment will have varying times with some margin of error. I post my times as they are a fairly stable metric across all my reviews (same driver, same equipment, same location, etc). I also don’t aggressively launch during tests as most owners don’t drive in such a manner and I’m looking to reflect the performance average drivers will see. So yeah, I could certainly get better times in my vids with more aggressive techniques, but I’m ok with leaving some performance on the table with real world driving in mind.

The only thing i hate about the subarus are their interiors, they look like they're from the 90s but it's 2015. The newer 2018+ models don't look too bad but dang subaru.

Yeah gotta balance out the manufacturing costs somewhere. I’d take a dates interior over lack of reliability any day.

Just watch out for your rear coil springs. They will corrode and break if the salt doesn't get washed off all the time. Just had it happen to me and is recalled.

I'm not overly convinced that they hold their value that much better, however as I'm about to buy one, fingers crossed. 'performance version' lol
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage Год назад
The XT version of the Forester has always demanded a premium over the base models...especially in the enthusiast marketplace. There is a significant increase in power of the turbocharged vs. N/A models that certainly helps "boost" that value holding potential.

Can you say more about the uncomfortable seats? I test drove a 2015 Touring XT and almost immediately found the lumbar uncomfortable regardless of how I adjusted it. Was this not a problem for you? Did you get used to it? Have you taken it on long drives? The 2015 I'm looking at only has 17k miles, clean title, in almost pristine condition for $22.4k. Seems like a steal with that mileage but I'm worried about the seats making my back hurt. I'm a 5'8" 145lb guy.
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage 11 месяцев назад
You’re spot on about the seats. It always feels like you have a knee in the middle of your back…the passenger seat also sits too high. I was able to live with it because the power plant is solid and the CVT was one of the better units I’ve ever experienced.

Sneakers On Feet we sold it after over 4 years of ownership and it was dead reliable for everything we asked for it to do...shuttled our newborn around, hauled Christmas trees, and many trips to the snow (and it was pretty quick as a bonus). We replaced with a Lexus LX...another truly amazing vehicle...and it still wasn’t an easy decision.

Im currently in between looking at a 2014 2.0 XT and 2015 2.5i base model. Dont know whats best for me though. Both are high mileage, around 140K miles
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage 3 года назад
Not sure if the XT is touring model or not...or what features really are important to you. The non-turbos had some oil consumption concerns. Get the XT if you enjoy the extra power.
@xavierp21
@xavierp21 3 года назад
@@autoobsessivegarage thanks for the feedback. Only other weight in it all is the 2.5i is a single owner no accidents reported. The 2.0 XT has had 3 owners with 3 accidents inthe first 2 years by the first owner. All rear ends from what i can tell on car fax
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage 3 года назад
@@xavierp21 As long as the damage was minor and fixed in a quality manner...I still lean towards the XT. Way more enjoyment to be had in it.

What do you think is a reasonable price range for a 2015 XT with 140,000 miles (no accidents, three owners)? The dealership right down the road from me has one, but the high mileage makes me think I could get a good deal.
@autoobsessivegarage
@autoobsessivegarage 3 года назад
That mileage is legit high…so it’s a tough question. Depending on your local market…I’d say $10k-15k but that’s not knowing repair history or condition. I’d say check it out and see what you can get them down to. Good luck and let me know how it goes.
@MrShinyCaddylackness

@@autoobsessivegarage drove it yesterday and you'd never guess the miles were that high with the way it handles. Wonderfully responsive and no sign of issues with the engine/trans/drivetrain. Gonna try to get it in with my mechanic today to take a look. Dealer is asking 15.8k and I'm gonna try to get them down to 13.5k.

250 HP at 5,600 RPM is the correct HP output for US models. Japan received other variants, some of which made MORE HP than this.

Edwin G only issues we had was the brake selector switch. Easy replacement...took me less than 30 mins. Now it’s covered by a recall, so even better. The transmission was bucking early in, took to dealership to redo software and that was fixed. Vehicle was a champ.
