Turbo Jeep stroker ride along

Nothing crazy because of the random lean spots. Still using an off the shelf tune on 10 psi (wastegate set at 9). The new AX-15 is VERY notchy and will take time to break in I suppose. Best pull is around the 1:30 mark.

Ax15 are just notchy, just because you put a short throw on it doesnt mean you can shift it faster. Its still gonna be notchy lol
@joshbauer5597

Explain to me how reducing the distance between shifts doesn't increase the speed of your gear changes...lol
@SkidmoreRacing
@SkidmoreRacing 10 месяцев назад
@@joshbauer5597 your thought process is 100% but from my experience with a couple of these transmissions is that just because the driver can shift fast doesn't mean the transmission itself can shift that fast. It basically feels like the shifter hits a wall. I've found that they don't really like shifting at high RPM(5000-5600) same deal feels like it hits a wall. This is all with syncromesh in my old trans and factory recommended oil in the current one, and a shifter from a Dakota (shorter throw than the stock xj shifter)

Man that sounds and looks awesome. I was contemplating a tdi build because i have a old 06 jetta laying around but man I bet that xj has some torque now! I have some questions, if you could answer them please 1. How the fuel mileage? Im guessing around 10mpg 2. Hows the low end torque? Those are the two determining factors for me, tdi vs 4.0 turbo. I gotta check out more of your videos
@kornybun
@kornybun Год назад
Thanks! Last time I checked fuel consumption it was around 14mpg. That is with mixed driving and a very crude tune. Back when I had bolt ons only, I would average around 18mpg. I haven't been driving much lately because something is worn out in the front end causing major death wobble. I had four manifold bolts come loose before that. Low end torque is great! Not much lag at all. The back end can come loose in second gear if you don't watch out.

Nice Jeep! I have a 96' 2 door Cherokee Sport with the same color combo as yours. It's an automatic 2 wheel drive. I would like to know where you got your cowl hood from. I am running the stock hood with turbo sunfire hood vents, but I think the cowl hood will look cleaner. Further down the road I would like a setup like yours, but with a built AW4 auto.
@kornybun
@kornybun 2 года назад
Thanks! 96 is actually my favorite year. You got NVH, airbag, and obd2... all while having the older styling. I got the fiberglass hood back in 2009 for $324 shipped off a guy on Ebay. I just checked and he is no longer a registered user and his website is no longer up. I think Reflexxion used to make a steel hood but I haven't seen them in a while either.

You ever get that SAFC (apex) installed to mess with fuel for this build? I’m sure going mega squirt or another standalone is most ideal but I want to keep all stock dash and accessories on my 99 when I get to boosting the 4.6. . Thanks in advanced!,
@kornybun

I have not put the Apexi Neo in yet but it has been bumped up my list of things to do. I had it out Saturday and couldn't drive it hard at all without it breaking up (very lean). I'm guessing the colder weather has a lot to do with it. I want to get away from the 7th injector. I also developed a high idle issue that I have to find now.

Hp Tuners supports jeep Jtec 96-01, I use megasquirt 2 v3.0 standalone with the jeep 87-90 flywheel with the 87-90 VR sensor as a batch fire configuration, only reason to keep the factory ecu is for factory gauges, but i like the idea of using a tablet because i can tune on the fly and use tunerstudio ultra for a custom dash with what ever gauges i want. now currently waiting to do the expansion card to turn my MS2 into a MS3 and go sequential injection.

I have questions? Is ur jeep still a inline 6? I'm asking you because I'm collecting parts to do a a turbo. I have exhaust manifold & turbo. with an external (38mm) waste gate. So what else? High flow gas pump?
@kornybun
@kornybun 2 года назад
Yes, check out my other videos. My "turbo swap 5" video shows a lot of parts I chose. I'm using a Walbro 255 fuel pump in a 94-95 Jeep sending unit. You'll need all the oil feed and return lines, fittings, boost controller, blow off valve, boost pipes, exhaust pieces, check valves, gauges, colder plugs with a tighter gap, injectors, and some way to tune. Tapping the oil pan for the oil return was tricky to do with the engine in. The intercooler setup was a bit challenging. The downpipe off the turbo can be a tight squeeze depending on where you mount the turbo. Heat wrap everything. Methanol injection is worth looking into as well.

Got a 1 year update on how many miles you've put on it and how the engine is holding up?
@kornybun
@kornybun 11 месяцев назад
I just went out to check and I'd say around 2,600 miles. That's total miles since the stroker install roughly three years ago. Engine is holding up fine so far. Had the manifold bolts and idle air valve rattle loose a while back. My cheap oil sending unit went out causing my oil pressure gauge to bounce from 0-max late last year. Replaced the sending unit with the only NOS OEM one I could find online. Still need to install my fuel controller and new bucket seats. Also, have the front end wobble to sort out. Pretty fun to just drive around town and "get groceries". I'll have to start back working on it for real sometime. Been spending too much time tinkering on old computers and gaming I guess.

@kornybun felt that lol, got a gaming rig in the works now. Biggest problem for doing a turbo build on my 1990 is the fact that it's my daily, would take more than a weekend to get it sorted out so I'm pretty SOL until I get another vehicle. In the meantime I've just been gathering all the info I can from other people who have done it to get a good idea of what to expect. Appreciate the reply man

Man, I could start another channel with all my computer projects. You can get used Dell Precision workstations for cheap off Ebay and mod them. I cut a hole in the top of a T3610 and mounted a huge watercooler for a 2080ti. As for your Jeep build, it's a bummer that it's your daily because of the downtime. For me it was not a quick process but I like to take my time anyway. I gathered parts for at least a year and caught all kinds of sales that saved me hundreds.@@d3ad_w31ght8
