Turbo LS swap Pinto is DONE!!!! 

That’s how this one started

I’m all about someone building their car however they want. That’s what I did.

I had been told that by a lot of people and I stated that as a JOKE. I'm actually doing a 302 swap on a 1997 nissan hardbody and I've been told similar statements. My whole reason is I had a running 302 given to me by my neighbor and my mustang friends heard about what I'm doing so they all started bringing me stuff to do it with, donating to the build. Cam, link bar roller lifters, hardened pushrods, 600 holley double pumper, performer intake, msd streetfire, msd distributor, button, cap and plug wires, headers, clutch kit, race harmonic balancer, GT40P heads... In parts to build the motor alone I'm honestly pushing the point to where it would have almost cost the same to LS swap it. I seriously didn't think it would but I'm too deep to back up now.

@@motorman111jld that’s what hot ridding is really all about. You have a lot of people I who have enough interest in your project that they want to see it happen. That’s the good stuff, the stuff that builds life long friendships.

@@bluecollarperformance1331 Absolutely! I'll never bash someone's project. I may joke around. But it's to each one's personality poured out into their personal build. I'll post videos when I get back on my project. Right now I'm in the process of opening my own mechanic shop. Maybe a couple more months and I'll be able to get back on it.

Lol, thank you. This car kind of fell in my lap. The property it was sitting on had sold and it was going to be scrapped, I got it offered to me and jumped on it. The build happed with parts I mostly already had.

Its funny how we change with age, We are the same age, And I feel the same way, I have owned both Pinto and a vega, I have a 67 chevelle 300 Deluxe I have own 30 years 700 hp 690 ft , 671 blower, But I would Like to own My 69 Gran prix, SJ.again Over them all.

@@brianbloom1799 I was lucky enough to be able to buy my 66 GMC back after it sat for 15 years. The first video on that on drops tomorrow, and it’s one of those that has a lot of meaning to me. I took my now 28 year old daughter to her first day of kindergarten in that truck

I swapped a 302 into a 71 pinto back in the late 70’s. Fun to drive but traction, especially in the wet, left something to be desired

They’re getting hard to find. Some of the parts I had to buy to get this one looking right were ridiculous

I love your username, that’s brilliant. It has always surprised me at how most people have some sort of connection with pintos

I really wanted to keep mine all under the hood and throw some steelies on it for wheels. I just missed keeping it all under the hood, and my wife liked these wheels, so I did what any strong and independent man would do and did what she liked ;)

I don’t think God cares a whole lot about what engine I put in my Pinto. I think V8 Pintos as a whole are cool, mine flys even turned way down. I’m going to do some reinforcement on the leaf mounts and front rails and turn up the boost before my local dragstrip opens.

@@bluecollarperformance1331 God may not care, but if it’s wearing a blue oval from the factory, Ford guys stick with Ford motors, bow ties belong in Chevy products, in my opinion anyway, not taking anything away from your build, it looks amazing 🤩

I don't live to far from there either, I would like to see that thing go down the strip. I didn't know there was a drag strip around Harrison. But I live on the MO AR state line by Carr lane. That's awesome, don't find too much like that around here. I swapped a 5.3 in a 92 yukon, but it decided it wanted 6.0 and chucked a rod out of the side. But that is awesome.

There are a lot of cars that I wish I’d have kept, but on the other side of the coin, selling them has alloyme to build bigger and better. Now I have a pinto. I’m sure that says something about my business acumen, but I’m not exactly sure what it is…..

It really is. I used to be really into bikes, and my out of state friends were always blown away when I’d show them around this part of the world.

Lol, this was a honest to goodness bought new by a little old lady car that was a one owner until 2018. I’m sure cash for clunkers claimed a lot of them.

@@privatedata665 thank you. I saved the car from the scrapyard and I used the parts I had already accumulated to build it. Some guys get twisted up about the LS in it, the reason I went that way is that I usually have 3 or 4 of them laying around, the TH350 is the same deal, I think I have 3 extras right now, and the 8.8 was cheap and available.

They’re awesome cars. I just sold mine this evening, but I truly enjoyed it for two years

i had a 1975 country squire in...chartreuse. wish i still had it, but can't figure out if i'd keep it turbo 4 banger or step up to a 302 swap and deal with the front end weight.

That’s on the agenda. I’m probably going to try to tackle that next weekend

The patina is cool, but ford starts with "F" not "G"

Thank you. The leaf perches have rubber in them, and I think that’s where a lot of my flex is coming from. I’ve got to get it fixed before the track opens.

@@bluecollarperformance1331 traction bars man, everybody knows leaf spring cars have to have traction bars to stop the spring wrapup that leaf springs suffer from.

@@bluecollarperformance1331 I'm planning on adapting to the Granada style spring perches and doing caltracs, maybe explorer shock mounts if i go cheap.. My rubbers look toasted.

@@firepinto I’ve 100% destroyed the rubber mounts at the perches. It’s parked until I can get the solid perches put on. I believe that’s why the pinion has been slapping the floor.

i'd thinking a medium length torque arm...from under the diff with pivot about half way forward on the snout to rear of trans crossmember....trying for say about inch higher than parallel to the driveshaft on trans end...at 5psi you should have enough torque to create a useful amount of anti-squat....and maybe mount a couple of dead batteries worth of ballast in the spare wheel well as a quickie move the C/G back another inch...the ultimate would be to get the whole car lift up with little change in rake under full power rather than front or (to be avoided at all cost) rear sag...

They drive surprisingly well for a base model econobox

I’m thinking I may try to get the center bulge up higher without putting a scoop on it. I’d like to keep it stockish looking.

The crazy thing is that the reputation for them becoming Mali to v cocktails when hit from the rear was exaggerated. At this point, there have been more deaths from fire in Teslas than Pintos.

@@bluecollarperformance1331 Over three million Pintos were produced over its ten-year production run...In 2022 alone Tesla made 1.31 million vehicles. I believe what you say about Teslas.

If they choose to put a piece of junk GM engine in that car, that's their right to do so. 🤣🤣 I get it though, it's simply a matter of price and availability, it's the same reason why guys used to build the old Ford Coupes with small block Chevys. Chevy in their prime produced some of the greatest engines ever built. It's hard to argue that when you consider engines like the 327, 396, 409 and the legendary 427, but in recent years I feel like their quality has taken a drastic nose dive. I'm definitely a Ford guy for a lot of reasons, but I'm not knocking your build because ya did a great job on it.

It’s always boggled my mind how mad people would get about how I spent my money, and my time on my car just because it isn’t “the way I would do it” When the fact of the matter is that most of those people don’t posses the resources, talent, or ambition to complete a proof this size anyway.

I feel you there. When I first started messing with cars I did awful work, but I kept trying until I got good at it. I’ve made my living for 29 years now as a mechanic, and I’m blessed to still have my dad, and he’s pretty impressed by some of the things I do.

Yes I got caught with my arm up a coke machine in front of Walton art center 2 days after my 18th bday got to spend couple days n nights at that county or city jail at top of hill as a white boy in 90% population is black. I fought 2 days straight

It’s actually running a stock ecu, I could, and may change it to flex, but I’m too busy just driving and enjoying it currently.

That they did. When I found out the history on the car my wife asked why the mileage would be so low, I told her it was because pintos spent more time broke down than on the road.

I have less than $8k in this whole build, and $2k of that is interior, probably $1k in wheels and tires. If you use junkyard stuff like I did it’s surprisingly affordable.

Something I didn’t realize when I was building this car is how many people have a connection to pintos. It seems like every time I put gas in it, someone walks up and tells me a pinto story. I’ve had a lot of cool cars, and I think people relate to this one more than any of them.

The dash was a wreck, so I fiberglassed and body worked it out. Rather than paint it, I just had it upholstered. I think it fits the 70’s street freak vibe pretty well
