Turbo V8 FC RX7 Hits The Dyno! TURN UP THE BOOST!

In this episode we put my 1987 FC RX7 on the dyno to see how much power we can make. I removed the spinny dorito and put in a 4th generation LS based 4.8 liter V8. This is the first car I have built and I think it has evolved into a pretty awesome little car. I built everything myself in my garage. This is the first time I have paid for any services (tuning support) with this car but it was well worth it.

The following includes everything I have installed on this car
Motor:
2011 4.8 Liter V8 out of my Chevrolet Silverado (I swapped the newer L83 direct injected 5.3 liter V8 with a 6L80E transmission into my truck for more towing power and much better drivability)
Motor upgrades:
Stage 2 Summit Racing turbo cam, forged Summit Racing pistons, new LS6 lifters and lifter trays, hardened chromoly BTR pushrods, dual valve springs, LS6 intake manifold, truck style throttle body with adapter to fit LS6 intake manifold (drive by wire), Holley EV6 100 lb fuel injectors with aftermarket fuel rails (custom brackets to fit the LS6 manifold), custom exhaust from the heads to the tail pipe.
Transmission:
Initially I started with a T56 out of an F-body Camaro that had been put through a lot of tough love before it went into my RX7. I later upgraded to a brand new T56 Magnum F that is capable of handling a lot more power
Rear Differential:
Within the last month I upgraded the stock Turbo II rear end to a Ford 8.8 IRS differential from a Ford Explorer. This diff has limited slip and 3.73 gearing. Hardened and coated chromoly axles with Ford Explorer outer and inner CV’s.
Fueling:
525 lph hellcat fuel pump (going to upgrade to 2 525 pumps soon), ½” solid fuel feed line with 8an return line and a boost controlled fuel pressure regulator
Turbo:
VS Racing 7875 gen 2.5 turbo T4 style flange, single 38mm Tial wastegate with 12 lb spring (will likely upgrade to two of these in the future), 3” thick intercooler (can’t remember dimensions), 4” downpipe, dual port solenoid pressure control with 5lb CO2 tank for dome pressure increase (regulator set at 30 psi for now)
ECM:
Holley Terminator X Max (max for drive-by-wire throttle body control) with handheld and 7” display

Good video. Love to see the 4.8LS motors pounding it out. I’ve got an almost identical build minus the cam and heads (BTR 4.8 turbo stage 1 and PRC stage 2.5 706 Heads) I hope to do 800WHP with straight meth injection on 93 pump. 👍

That should make 800 for sure with meth injection. If you are running an auto the converter might hold your numbers back a little but it will definitely be rowdy af!

I have a 80E awaiting a build up so yeah extra loss for sure. I meant to ask what rpm are you starting to see boost? Not sure if I’ll regret my choice of the .96AR housing or not 🤷🏻‍♂️

@@jessed8046 in the dyno boost started ramping around 3300 rpm. You planning on mostly drag strip or daily boosty fun? I don't think the lower a/r is going to hurt you too bad either way. The 1.25 that I have is good for making more top end which is what I was going for. I think with the .96 you will see boost faster but possibly loose a little up top when trying to hit over 25 psi

Mostly street for now as I don’t have the time or energy to start the 80E build. I’ll like likely be having it street tuned to 600ish wheel on the 60E for now.

Mustang wheels? They look good! Great hp, but the Torque is phenomenal!! Light car like that will be lighting up the rears in every gear! 😂 👍

Yup, I found the set with new tires on them for $300 and they fit really well. Super happy with the torque numbers! My original street tune with a 12 lb spring made traction a fantasy on the street but its a fun game to play 😎

Running a monster clutch that was in my buddies LS1 Camaro. It had probably 30k not friendly miles on it before I put it in here. Rated for 700 ft-lb so I can't believe it is still holding on. Going to upgrade that sometime in the near future

It has been great so far. I had some wheel hop issues at first but have resolved those by replacing some bushings

Which ar did you go with ? .96 or .125 I’m building a s13 240sx drift car with 4.8 stage 2 turbo cam ls6 intake 100lb injectors pump e85 holley terminator and tinker dash on cd009 6 speed

1.25 divided t4 flange. I put the v-band .96 on my s10 and it works just as well. The v-band makes everything a lot easier and the .96 makes it spool faster. For a drift car you might want to go for the .96 if you are looking to get into boost faster

@@provinsgarage yes that’s exactly what I want. To spool faster I was looking at vsr 7665 and from what I read it’s a bad turbo. But I have seen 4.8/5.3 make over 600whp on that turbo. That turbo spool at 2500rpms but not sure what rpm it dies out. But I was real interested in that turbo

@DGSR 03050818 with the ls6 intake that motor is going to make most of it's power at high rpm. I don't have any experience with a 7665 but it sounds like a better size drifting. 7875 comes on like a freight train and might be harder to control in drifting

@@provinsgaragethe cam you are using is the turbo stage 2 226/230 .600/.575? How does it work for the 4.8? Does it have good mid range and great top end?

I have been pleased with it. The bottom to mid is pretty weak but the top end is insane. The 4.8 wants to Rev to the moon and this cam loves it. I don't really rev it past 7k but it would
