I suppose it's time to do an upgrade onto the ol Turbo Xterra!
I've decided to go big on power for it!
Going to go twin charged with the mighty M122 from the Ford GT500 (Mustang)!
I have quite decided on what sized turbo I should run or if I simply keep the T3/T4 I have now. I need to continue with my research on understanding this odd setup!
But overall, it should be fun!

This is awesome. Just purchased a 2004 Xterra and I love it, can't wait to see what happens with this project. I see you uploaded an update 10 days ago, Ibhave that video queued up now 😄

Looking forward to this build! Ive often thought about something like this for the vg33er in my frontier

Nissan actually had their own Twin Charged car, the March Super Turbo! Those things sound super cool.

Eaton part number is the cubic inches per revolution. IE 62 in^3 or 122 in^3. About double. Stiffness at the blower joint helps. Instead of rtv, consider using either OEM gaskets or milling in an o-ring groove. McMaster sells a kit for making custom length o-rings. Will you stuff a heat exchanger or intercooler into the loop? I suggest you do NOT delete the bypass. Instead plumb the actuator diaphragm to manifold pressure. Under vacuum the actuator will open the bypass. This happens during idle. The bypass shuts under positive pressure.

Ah okay, understood! Thanks for the insight on this! Yeah I could get the OEM oring gasket for the m122 and simply channel in the grooving needed for it. Shouldn't be much of a challenge!

Cool project! Would be great to see an off the shelf adapter one day. Surprised the vg33er never saw after market support for a procharger

Yeah I agree with ya 1000%

Just for reference for when you’re at the mapping stage, when going compound charged, you can’t rely on MAP for accurate fuelling, you’ll also need to measure air mass (MAF). Manifold pressure and temperature isn’t directly able to be extrapolated accurately when you have varying sources of air flow being directed. Same as when have to remap for a different turbo size change.

Ah good to know. So instead of doing a 3.5bar MAP sensor, I should stick with a MAF sensor in front of the turbo?
@KJMTurbo
@KJMTurbo 8 месяцев назад
@@z31online Correct. You’ll want to find a MAF and intake from something that has enough resolution for the airflow you’re expecting

Really cool. The first thing that came to mind was a waterjet to have a perfect cutout. The fact that you cutout the piece with a bandsaw is very impressive.

Hah! I agree. I'm just working with what I have here in the shop. I still need to find a decent laser and water jet cutting place in Nashville. There was a business in Colorado that I would regularly go to for those needs.

Heads up, the volkswagen car you're talking about has a 3.2 VR6, hence R32. The 1.4 TSI is the name of the twincharged engine

I can't attach pictures, so this will have to be a thought experiment. Turbo-charged engines do not need headers. You probably know this, right? Similarly, supercharged engines don't need a free-flowing supercharger manifold. Take the VG33ER manifold and weld flat plate to it so the M122 can bolt to. Don't worry about the "free flowing" design. Just make sure the exit V is inside the manifold cavity and make the intake cavity air tight. Done.
@z31online

Yes, I thought about doing that, but the only plate that you can buy for a m122 is $400+. The route I'm doing is essentially free as I already have the materials laying around.

Would the 300zx turbo parts fit the vg33? Got an 03 frontier i turned to a prerunner and was wondering if the ZX stuff would bolt in without any major issues. New to the channel and already liking the content 👍
@z31online
@z31online 7 месяцев назад
Thanks for the comment! Unfortunately the 300zx turbo stuff will not fit the Frontier VG33, this is because there is no room for the 300zx exhaust manifolds to fit and clear around the engine. The VG33 is too close to the firewall. If you want a turbo setup, you'll have to do what I did by making a custom setup

Bummer. Was hoping to leach off the ZX parts in an attempt to save time on fabrication. So the engine bay is too tight to fit them? or do the manifolds and turbos physically interfere with the motor
@z31online

Both the manifolds and the turbo

how did you make the template to line up with the belt drive for the super charger, is there a dimension between the front of the plate and the belt?
@z31online
@z31online 20 дней назад
I used a mechanic's straight edge and dropping plumb to get the belt alignment and distance figured out.
