Great review Davis!!! Out of all the series within the gundam universe, one stands out as was once a very underrated series, now become a beloved masterclass series, Turn A Gundam. Everything about Turn A is amazing, the setting, the world building, the action, it's fantastic!!! The characters are easily the best part of the series, everyone had an important role to play and they do brilliantly. Loran himself is a fantastic example of a pacifist protagonist done right even if everyone around him do outshine him time after time, he does have his badass moments that really stands out!! The mystery of the Black History is very spoilerish and while it does turn off some people, i feel it just adds more of the mythos to the very name *GUNDAM* . The *Turn A* and it's sinister brother the *Turn X* reflects this as we don't know who made them or what their true purpose are and we see hints throughout the story and each one of them is nothing short of terrifying. The best part of the series is easily the music. Yoko Kanno's soundtrack is just masterclass level good that you can easily listen to without fail (one in particular actually made me tear up, i kid you not). This is a masterclass series that many should check out and a brilliant example of why you should never judge a book by it's cover. *UNIVERSE!!!!!!!*

I'm seriously disappointed that it never got a dub. We were even told a dub was in the works right before Bandai decided to pull out of the US market.

Turn A Gundam is my favorite Gundam series ever, it's very much Tomino channeling Xenogears.

Great review as usual! I've only seen some of Turn A but it's a great entry and I do hope it receives a proper American DVD release before too long. Plus, the recurring Daimajin allusions to the main macha is also deeply appreciated. SLIGHT SPOILERS AHEAD... I personally believe the revelation of where Turn A exists within the whole of the Gundam legacy was a haphazardly thought of creative decision, probably forced by the fact that the series as an anniversary season and the show headers thinking it to be a cool Easter egg while dismissing the continuity issues (anime show runners like do that A LOT). Thankfully, unlike something like The Timeless Child and how it blemished all of Doctor Who in turn, the plot twist doesn't ruin an otherwise good show and can easily be pushed corner as the main story and it's characters aren't handicapped by it moving forward.

You could just look at Turn A as being its own divergent universe that just happens to have events that look exactly like all the other series from the snapshots you see of the Dark History. Nothing is revealed in enough detail in Turn A that you can be 100% sure that those events played out exactly as they did in those shows - maybe they're just close parallels with some variations obvious if you saw more of each period - the Turn A past Gundam G Fighter Tequila mech had those dangling fringy-ball things on its mecha-hat, for ex. :) That way you can still have your discrete separate timelines *and* have the Turn A timeline with funhouse mirrors of those shows as its own past.

It was weird in begining parts of it, i wish hell tomino only noddded to past u.c series when saw footage form the past, not other stand alone series. Making it ulimate future of u.c.

I don’t like the idea that all the Gundam shows are in same timeline. It does not make much sense and it frankly takes away from each show as there all the events are now meaningless. My headcanon is that it all timelines lead to Turn-A. Kinda like how BOTW merged all Zelda timelines.

How is it great entry if there is a connectios to almost every gundams that came before?

Turn a is the worst file of trash to ever exist. It will never be a gundam ever.
