I demonstrate how I turned a salt shaker to go with a Pepper Mill I had turned a while ago. These can be used for a variety of condiments and make great gifts.

That Spalted Maple came out great and looks stunning. Love you showing all the issues and recoveries. I wouldn't attempt that myself as I'm not good enough to hollow it out as well as you can. Watching this video I've already decided at my lack of skill level; if I make a salt/pepper shaker like that. I'd cheat and hollow/drill it out straightish then make a step and glue in an unseen insert to hold the bung.

Very nice result. Appreciate seeing the recovery. That spalted maple is really great looking and I really like the shape you came up. Looking forward to the Four Ways videos; saw the announcement on Sam Angelo's last video as well. Very cool and speaks volumes about you that you have Richard Raffan participating in this. Having seen the videos he's been producing, I really regret not having gotten into turning when he was traveling and doing live demonstrations.

The salt shaker is nice. Lucky find on the piece of wood You used. I can believe you kept it for three years. But it's hard to believe you could find it again. It does look good. I've never done hollowing (I'm still a beginner) and hollowing in that tiny hole would scare the daylights out of me.

Re finishing - did you do anything to seal the inside? I guess the question is that spalting is a form of decay, and I wonder if byproducts of the spalting might contaminate the salt if the interior is not sealed. My inclination would be to pour some shellac into the cavity, roll the turning to spread it around, and then dump the excess.

I did not seal the inside per Richard Raffan's guidance on making a condiment shaker in one of his books.
