Eric Tsao (曹先紹) is the Taipei Zoo's current spokesman, and has been the face of the Taipei Zoo for many years, providing updates on its animals and projects to inquiring news agencies.
ICRT's Trevor Tortomasi speaks with Eric about the zoo's efforts in conservation, research, and education, as well as the relationships he has formed with other zoos and ecological movements around the world.

This is great to see. I’ve been following this panda family. Let me make a small correction. YuanYuan’s first cub in 2013 was YuanZai. YuanBao was born very recently, either late 2020 or early 2021. He got the names mixed up. I have been watching YuanZai and her mother for years. And now it’s so exciting to see a new cub.

Absolutely fantastic video. It pushed me from being hesitant about going to the zoo because of the moral grey areas animals-for-entertainment present to wanting to go and trusting the zoos intent and direction. Keep up the good work ICRT and Trevor!

真正的保育機構不是營利機構，而是由政府出資或用捐款運作，而動物園是營利機構，利潤是主要考量，所以當動物生產過剩時就會撲殺，幾年前北歐一家動物園殺死過剩的長頸鹿餵獅子，就是一個活生生的例子；動物園也會為了利益而人工繁殖或向國外買賣動物，例如臺灣某個動物園向非洲窮國進口長頸鹿，等於鼓勵窮國把長頸鹿從牠們的自然棲息地綁架賣給臺灣；很多野生動物不適合人工圈養，例如大象，在自然棲息地生活的大象每天要和大家族在草原中漫遊數公里，人工圈養無法提供這樣的環境，所以動物園的大象大多有足病和憂鬱癥。
