My Porsche 911 restoration is almost ready to hit the road, But I need turn signals and brake lights to hit the road safely. Today I get the flashers wiring done and don't laugh at my dash mounted turn signal switch!
Don't worry, I didn't butcher my cars wiring harness!

crafty brinkmanship under cost constraint... helps us plan on going ahead even if all parts aren´t there (yet). We often have to move ahead under imperfect circumstances. This video shows us there is a life to be had building on a budget....

Well said, I totally agree about budget versus progress. I misread brinkmanship as blinkermanship at first 😀. Blinkermanship-the practice of repairing blinkers.

Enjoying the daily videos! I recently swapped out my original bullet fuse panel on my '74 911 for one that uses the more modern blade type fuses. I often had issues telling if a fuse was blown and the new upgraded panel has a led that lights up if senses a blown fuse. It comes as a kit and is a direct swap for the original, even uses the original fuse box cover. Might not fit into your budget now, but a good upgrade for future project list.

any bumps in performance or functionality with that upgrade other than what you’ve already mentioned? i’ve seen these too and have been interested. i’m assuming yours is the Classic Retrofit one?
@joew1803
@joew1803 4 года назад
@@grantroberts4231 No increases in performance more about reliability. After 46 years my fuse panel needed some attention. I found several fuses that were the wrong size, etc. It does come with relay's for the headlights so maybe my lights will be a little brighter??

I've had my eye on that product too. It might be overkill for me, since I probably won't be using most of those circuits anyway. Still a great product though.

That toggle switch looks like something Porsche would have on one of their Motorsport prototypes - :)

It is a bit race car ish. I do like a line of toggle switches. Reminds me of an airplane.

Thanks, its real that's for sure. All car projects are a lot of work. Most guys don't show all the detail.

Thanks! I didn't blab about this in the video, but I had an extra 356 switch that I was going to adapt and use. Then just yesterday somebody bought it for $300. Bye it went. Then I got this switch at ACE hardware for $5.

Thanks! I now have the correct parts to use the stock turn signal switch, but I haven't put them in yet. It's now a habit to reach for the little black switch on the dash, ha ha. 2500 Miles on that little switch now.

You've always said this was a hot rod! :D And actually, I think that your re-engineered parts have all been interesting upgrades. I'd be super interested to see how you might improve on the design, functionality, and reliability of the existing controls and switches!
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 4 года назад
Yes, a hot rod is another word for "I don't have all the parts" Ha ha. In all seriousness Porsche has always had a charge more money for less stuff approach with their higher performance cars. My goal is to only install the parts I need and eliminate the fluff. The 1974 seat belt warning system is incredibly hunky and totally unnecessary for my car at least.

Toggle switch FTW. Good temporary solution.

Its great the switch, I remember to fix a used one in my alfa until I found a complete one, I missed som things, you bought the bare shell?. And this person juan carlos sold it to you with some bits and parts?. Sorry but I catch it in the middle, ah also the dash is going to be the body colour?. The standards ones are black dont they?. Ah and forgot thanks very much for the tips with the tig welder!!!!
@GarageTimeAutoResto
@GarageTimeAutoResto 4 года назад
Yes, this project started as a stripped out shell. Juan Carlos just sent me some electrical bits out of sheer generosity. My car is a hot rod, so I filled some dash holes and painted it. I like the older painted dash look more. Best of luck with TIG
