Watch my latest cinematic M50 video here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1KX00l_Aqfs.html And come say hello on IG! 👉🏻 instagram.com/hermans.joris Thanks for watching, guys! 🙏🏻
not all films have shallow depth of field, you should only use it when it's relevant to the story. shooting like this can make the image softer and make it harder to focus.
@@tesha199 Right, but with the larger sensor it still gets better performance. I hate when people act like shooting with smaller sensors is an advantage. Like when you factor in a tighter focal range on the same actual lenses (all the best consumer glass is for full frame) it just isn't worth it. Not when Canon and Sony both have affordable full frame now for not much more. And if you are buying the better full frame lenses and adapting, you might as well spend a bit more and get an RP/R or a used sony A7III or A7sII
I really hate bokeh in RU-vid videos....when it’s subtle, it looks great...but a lot of RU-vidrs overdo it 🤢 they should put more effort in making a nice looking set instead of blurring it out.
I use the M50 for all my RU-vid videos. But since my videos are not artistic stories, I’m pretty happy with the standard profile with some minor color grading. I do try to stick to the wide open aperture and 180° shutter speed, so I have a variable ND filter that I use A LOT!
Omg I’m recording something similar in Spanish for all my people with the M50. Best have it and it works really good in the zhyun crane. It’s a tiny beast. Good video.
I prefer using Andrew Reid's C-log I find the colors are more vibrant with less noise. Also with the Sigma f1.4 lenses you can now get really sharp images with some crazy bokeh, particularly with the 56mm
I also have a M50 and followed your all of your advice; but when I upload my video youtube, even with good lighting, the image quality is not as crisp and sharp as your videos. What could I be doing wrong?
MJ's Films Hey, maybe try to find a second hand one? Also, the m50 mark 2 should come at the end of this year. Prices should drop for the original one.
You just boosted the reason for me in getting the M50. I love cinematic and currently just using my phone and tweaking the footage with my PowerDirector365. Thanks Joris for being very informative and it will help me a lot as a beginner 😎
Great vid! Helped loads! I’ve got a speedbooster and a 50mm lens to try and buy my way into looking as good as that, with these settings as well now, tasty shots 😋
Great video! Im using canon m50 for some time now. There is one more tip for better video looks, I recommend viltrox adapter. It gives you access to all EF lens range! Have a great day!
I am thinking about getting this camera but I am trying to figure out if I can shoot a 90 minute low budget movie with this video camera would you recommend
Thanks for the super simple, elegant explanation. I don't know how many videos I have watched on this subject, too many. Yours by far is the best I have ever come across. Thank you.
This was helpful! I am learning how to colorgrade and literally every video out there is about c-log footage and I was so confused but I had no idea the m-50 doesn't have that capability
Really glad I came across your video. I am waiting for Canon M50's to be back in stock and planning on getting one as soon as possible. I have been in the beginning stages of shooting and learning about video and this information is great. Lots to learn I know, but thanks for putting this information out. I really appreciate it. Anything you can share about shooting video with the Canon M50 would be great. Thanks again!
Hi Joris. I installed the cine profile. Taking a closer look at it: sharpness and contrast are set to zero, other settings are the same as for the neutral profile. My question : wouldnt it just be easier to take a user defined profile and make the necessary settings? Why the need to install? Or am I missing something?
Hi Gert, you can do a lot more adjustments to a picture profile like curves, gamma curve, color tones... but then you need the picture profile editor. At the moment I'm trying to create my own picture profile. Here's a video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-N6YDAd23wkA.html
Good luck Yvonne! Looking to buy my first "real" camera very soon and I'm looking very hard at this Canon M50. Almost sold on it. Let us know how it's going.
well I wouldnt say a beast.. the Fuji x-t3 is a beast (4k 60fps, 10bit) the Sony a6300 is a beast (full sensor readout 4k, epic lowlight performance for apsc, LOG). the m50 is more like the full canon experience in a small body, wich is cool. But its really far from a "beast" I would say.
Perhaps that was a stupid question 'cause you're talking about aperture, which perhaps doesn't work without a lens? Or does the Canon m50 have a default lens that comes with it? I'm sorry but I'm very new to all of this, but this was a very interesting video that I'll probably rewatch a few times later!
May I recommend K&F variable ND2-ND32 one. I've been using it for about a month now, and I'll be honest, there is some vignetting at the very highest stops (which I literally never use), but I've tested shooting directly at sun on a bright day without any vignetting, so it's deffinitely pretty good for the price! If you do get one, PLEASE make sure you get one for big thread size and then just get rings to attach to different lenses, that way you can use the same ND filter for all your lenses! I got mine at thread size 67, since the biggest of the sigma lenses has thread size 67, and I can adapt it to any of the trio lenses I choose to buy, just gotta get the appropriate rings (they cost about $5-10 max)
So...one of our common subs told me this morning that you linked to my video. Didn't know that!!! And especially since we're both from Belgium. Bedankt Joris, als je eens wil een meetup or shoot doen, zeg maar. Volg je ook op IG btw ;)
I want a camera to make RU-vid videos. Indoor like this one and outdoor too. But the priority by far is indoor with no action. I was thinking of the M50. It is in my price and it has a microphone Input which is vital because my videos involve music making. Is m50 the best for me or are there others.
hey i know I'm late to the party but i would appreciate if you could answer my question... is there ANY way to use 4K and f3.5 and still be able to have a good focus?
Yep, it’s the main disdvantage but once you’ve used it for a while, you know how far you can take it. But still, there will always be some noise. Thanks for watching, Lawrence! 🙏🏻
I have been applying the Canon Cinestyle lut while editing on Davinci Resolve or is there an advantage to applying the profile in the M50 which I assume is applied the video while it’s recording? Thank you.
Thanks so much for this video. Please I'd like to ask 2 questions if you don't mind Please. 1. Can this camera be used for green screen shoot? 2. M50 and 80D which is better in terms of picture quality?
Sure, any camera will work. Green key is more about the software you'll use. I'm not familiar with those, though. As for image quality, they're both really close but the Canon M50 Mark II will be announced soon. Maybe wait for that one?
Joris Hermans maybe not “sold out”. But in scarce supply. Amazon and B&H showing more on order. Probably because of COVID...and high demand ? At this point I think I will hold out for a mk ii.
My biggest issue is that my M50 doesn't have EOS Utility and it doesn't exist on the U.S. canon website. Can you or anyone else point me in the right direction to put cinestyle on my Camera?
I'm so glad to come across your channel. By far, this has been most helpful. Thank you so much. I just subscribed and activated the notification to keep in the know. All the best....
