I'm still amazed by the repercussion of the last Metal Zone video of Inspiring Track. For a small channel like mine having 100k views and 500+ comments in the last week only was absolutely mind blowing! A lot of thanks to all of you who have taken the time to write something.
After reading several people asking about a way to add a switch to alternate between stock and modded, here's this video. It's certainly a lot more involved than the previous mod wich has the appeal of being super simple. Drilling holes in your pedal case isn't for everyone but hey! some comments said they got a used MT2 for 25 bucks so it's a great place to learn!

They're both really good videos man! I just bought an adjustable Weller 5-40 watt soldiering iron kit, and I'm hoping to learn to solder well enough to do circuit boards (for effects, Eurorack modular synths, and one day hopefully modding game consoles). I want to start with replacing the save battery on my Wario Land Gameboy cartridge, then maybe fixing the intermittent wiring in my Schecter C-7 🤣 Maybe if I don't screw those up, I can do this awesome mod to my Metal Zone too! It reminds me of my Keeley modded DD-3, with the blinding blue LED and switch, awesome!

Thanks! This is a really easy mod to improve your soldering skills if you don't have much experience. It's just desoldering a cap, the pedal is easy to disassemble and all the components are big and easy to access. Good luck in your journey!!

I suppose I didn't pay for the MT-2 anyway... my old friend and former band member stole it from his roommate, because he found out that his roommate was a lying thief, who stole several hundred dollars and blamed my (now) late wife (this was before we got back together and got married)... it was a kind gesture on his part (just because he knew I would love it, I've collected Boss pedals since I was like 13 or 14 probably), and he also apologized to my wife for trusting his scumbag roomate over her 😆.

hi, i have here a MT-2, i saw your video that the C35 should be the one to be pulled out which is the 10nF capacitor but the C34 (273) is the one that you pulled out.. what is the right one, 10nF or 27nF?

Maybe is a different board revision and C35 is located in another place. The cap to remove in the one labeled C35 which is a 10nf one, you can check it on the schematic here: www.diystompboxes.com/smfforum/index.php?topic=115139.0 C35 is located near the input and labeled as 0.01 which correspond to a value of 10nf. Hope that helps!

Considering a Used Metal Boss can be as low as 40.00 and NEW waza craft is about 120.00, this is a better deal Thanks for this, need to get it now

I'm just about to embark on my first Boss pedal mod, an SD-1 Super Overdrive Keeley mod. My knowledge of working with PCB's and components is limited, as are my soldering skills. These videos have taught me a number of things and have made the process less daunting. Many thanks.

I'm glad this video helped you. It's not that hard and the SD1 is a nice pedal to begin moding. It's cheap, has a nice big pcb and is almost indestructible as any Boss pedal. Good luck!!

if you have moded like this , i notice once he switch to mode W a hum sound begin to leak from speakers ... did you notice it in your modd ?

@@mfaisalilyas didnt notice anything. its just removing a capacitor. try it without anything (just remove the capacitor and the switch) , if it continues then its another issue not the pedal

I just picked up one of these used with the intention of making this mod and when I cracked it open, boom! SMD's everywhere. But I did the mod anyway! Was a little trickier but it came out pretty clean, especially concerning the switch - the case is already pre-punched for several configurations, including a hole perfect for the mini toggle, just on the other side of the LED. At first listen, the sound is subtle and much more pronounced at lower gain settings. I like both sounds, honestly.

Dude I need an instructional on adding an extra led (red or orange?) for the Waza mode, so original and modded have their own light. I'm just not sure if I could solder a wire onto the original light for the power and ground it wherever everything else is grounded? Either way thanks, I just bought one of these pedals can't wait for it to arrive and mod it and be a metal God!

If you want to try it is exactly the same procedure but instead of putting C35 on the switch put C20 or 24, they are independent from one another so if you want to toggle both on/off you'll need at least a 2pst or a 2pdt switch (basically 2 switches in one) and use 4 wires

absolutely. i do this mod frequently but have to mount the 3 way toggle on the side of the pedal. the 3 way switch allows me to have both engaged in mid position or can flip switch either up or down to remove one or the other.

switch left WASP....switch right WAZZA 😆Love it. Is this a wazza like mod or is it THE ACTUAL same mod Boss do to make their standard pedal the Wazza version? Just curious but sure does make a marked upgrade to the sound. Even your blues demo on the 1st video was a great tone.😎👌

Lol thanks!!! The real waza thing is much more involved, it completely changes the eq and I think also the clipping, this is just an aproximation. Glad you liked it!

Thanks! I would love to say that is the MT2 or some other analog stuff but is an amp model (heavily distorted) blended with the clean signal for bottom end and definition. I think the plugin is the Waves GTR but I don't remember exactly right now. Cheers and I'm glad you liked it!

Buen día amigo. Tengo una super duda. Hice la mod retirando capacitores C35 y C25. Es normal que el pedal se haya tornado un poco más ruidoso después de esto?

Yo solamente retire C35 porque con eso ya quedé conforme con el sonido. Noté un pequeño aumento en el nivel de ruido pero nada serio, yo estimo que debe ser porque al retirar ese capacitor ese filtro queda deshabilitado y deja pasar algo mas de ruido pero ya te digo, al menos en mi caso es algo muy sutil que solo se nota con la ganancia al maximo

My switch has 3 poles, solder the wires on the outer lugs with the cap in between 1&2 or 2&3? Same difference? Or solder wires 1 & 2 and put the cap on 2 & 3? Or just cut one of the outer lugs off?

You can add a new mod: changing the led for a 2 color one (three legs)and the switch with a two way one to change color depending on mod on or off. I guess there´s room for that.

Thanks! I'm literally in the other end of the world (argentina). I think you can buy a couple of real Waza pedals with just the shipping costs lol. It's super easy, you can do it without any problem

I can't fault you!!! But what about the Ibanez metal charger??? If you can do all this to a boss metal zone... Have a look inside that ibanez squash box, bcoz I'm sure even you will be impressed in how did they cram pack in all that circuitry into that space!!! Keep on keeping on..

@@InspiringTracks true,, they don't make things like the used to!! AND some good stuff stayed secret and only realise when u can't get yer hands on them anymore!!! By the way... I was lucky to get out a clearence skip an old early 60's radiogram, with an old 1964 STAMPED handwired British built stereo valve amp..!!! How lucky!!! Folk can spend $£1000's on such devices, don't they?? I'm an oldskool taker apart er and managed to reserect some old kit.. More out of necessity bcoz some of us couldn't afford anything to do our Art with... Thanks,, good to see yer video...

Oh,,, yea!!! In a good way... Do u realise between a friend and myself how many practice amps that pedal was responsible for blowing up!! Fender 15'(w,) for example.. And it was so funny how the speaker would go out and in full extend and then crazy vibrate!!! A little session 50watt yea paper cone speaker spontaneous combustion.. Only time I've seen ever this too.!!!! I've not got one it was my mates... Just to see... We took it apart,, then realised with 4 double layers of circuitry, how did they fit all that in! And better not, coz I'm not trying to work out how to stick all that back in there!! Thanks tek guy.. Piece

Maybe take out the circuit board before drilling.. if your bit isn't very sharp, you may apply alot of force and when that hole opens up, your bit will fly into the board, adding a modification which renders it useless.. 😉

1. haha that happened in the previous video! 2. It can be done with an rgb LED and a 2pdt switch with one side controlling the mod cap and the other the LED but I think isn't worth the trouble. The space inside the pedal is tight and fitting a bigger switch won't be easy

Great video, great idea, Juan, congrats. I know it's a pro job, but it would be so cool if the led color changed when switch mod on/off I know it's possible, but i don't know how to do it

Thanks! I think it can be possible with an rgb led and a 2pdt switch with one half switching the cap and the other the led. There's not much room for a bigger switch but it seems doable

Can you make a video on adding a input jack on a mt-2? Acting as a foot switch and once the pedal is on, it acts like a boost similar to Fortin 33 pedal but with the features of metal zone
