Thank you for posting and documenting on our family. It does make me proud to be a Turnbull. I hope soon when travel is permitted again I can go see and walk these homelands for myself. It is a shame about the sound, but it is worth being annoyed to watch. I am a Turnbull thru and thru as you described being a rebel and not liking the authority we all have to endure. ; )
Thank you Mark. My mother was a Turnbull. I remember my Grandad telling me about the Border Reivers. We are proud of our heritage. I have visited Fatlips and Bedrule but not the other Pele towers. Very interesting. I shall visit. Turnbull were known for being very stubborn too, definitely 🤗.
A few of us are in Germany, late of California. The locals at Bonchester Bridge welcomed me like a long lost cousin. We love the country, love the people.
Wonderful video, amazing scenery. Families were big. There were many cousins as well as siblings. My Goodfellow line married a Bessie Turnbull late 1600's, Hawick. My family were farmers and tenant farmers.
Wonderful job, you really embodied the feeling and sense of familiarity felt with this place. My bloodline only moved twice after leaving Scotland. From Canada to the Northwest u.s. this made it easy to track back as far as Denholm in the 1600s. My family has followed the tradition and passed down many stories as well as the legendary Turnbull Mentality. In the next few years I will return to ground Zero and experience this place, and many other places you show on your channel. Thank you for sharing, Love what you do on here.
My great-grandmother is a Turnbull born in 1894. Thank you for this lovely video for me to catch up with family history. Remember talk of family history when I was a kid but that was 50yrs ago and need a refresh. ❤

I liked learning the history of my clan . My family is from Roxbury I think. My great great grandfather moved to a small town in Kansas called Maple Hills around 1870 and was the blacksmith my great grandfather was 8 when they left Scotland so I am only 3rd generation American.
This is so crazy to see so many other Turnbull's and to learn more about my heritage. My great-great-great-grandfather immigrated from Sanquhar, Dumfries-shire, Scotland in 1853 to Scranton, Pennsylvania. My whole life and even especially as a kid, I never heard of any other Turnbull's, I don't have even have any cousins that share my last name. I would love to meet more of my distant relatives and visit the Scotland borders.
I have watched a few of your videos and find them fascinating and the passion you have as i have for Scottish history and heritage. Turnbulls i never knew about apart from a shop in a village i originate from Kirkconnel has a newsagents called Turnbull.
I thoroughly enjoyed this peak into my ancestors'' homeland. My paternal grandmother was a Turnbull. I'm hoping to visit there one day. It had to be terribly difficult to leave that beautiful place.
my family are trimble's, which is a translation of turnbull. It's nice to finally get a bit of backstory and history of the ancestors! And it's quite funny you mentioned the anger, because in the least knobish way possible, i get a buzz of arguments and anger, it is part of my personality.

I was a Turnbull and my dad used tell me stories about how the English could do nothing with them, they were a law onto themselves. When England made a trus with the other clans a price was put onto every Turnbull's head. Every time I go to Scotland I feel I'm home, I love the place and I'm very proud to be a Turnbull.
Could you ever look into the Rutherfoord clan? (They originated, and were apparently run out of Ruddervoorde, Flanders). They were connected with the Douglases and Humes . Most of the Rutherfoords left Scotland.
@@inyobill I visited Scotland once when I had no inclination of my Scottish heritage. I was young and I was there to go skiing at Aviemore..... Hope to get back some day and visit the Scottish borders, especially around the Jedburgh area.

Even if you don't get a night or a few there, try to eat there at least once. It's right on the edge of the heart of Turnbull country and dead in Reiver territory..
Thank you, Mark. I don't know much about my ancestors or about the history until I watched this video by you based on the Turnbull Family. I am a Turnbull and proud of it. But was upset hearing with how the Turnbull's were treated by King James the 4th, 6th and by Henry the 8th which in my opinion were not good people, not at all. Despite though with what happened to them, they moved on and lived their lives. Again, thank you Mark for the education about them. God Bless, sir!
Can you do one on Nixon? I ama Nix, and am curious how we got to the borderlands. Clan MacNicol society claims it is a variation of MacNeacail. Some say we were there since Strathclyde, others say our family seat was gained when the Chief sent warriors to ravage the border in the 1300's. I have not been able to confirm either theories. Nixon's were one of the more notorious clans of the area, I'm a bit surprised I can't find more info. Especially since we were so close to the Armstrong's, and had a US president of the namesake. I also believe there is a relation to your variation Nicol, Mark. Would be very interesting to see what you could dig up. We could very possibly share a common ancestor.

Not 100% sure on that one? Know there are a lot of different names originating from the Turnbull name, possible this is one. Get in touch with the Turnbull Clan Association in the USA they will be more than happy to help you.
