Yes, I did a video on a clamshell box a couple of years ago. I am discovering that new viewers do not go back and watch old videos so if a video was generally successful, redoing the project a few years later works.

Very cool project Mike. Inset lids seem to be more esthetically pleasing in some cases, but the overfitting lid has the advantage of more space inside the box as you stated. One question regarding the clam shell box, would it ruin the esthetics of the box if one were to make the lid with a small knob to facilitate opening it?

Total novice here, just turning spindles so far. I see some folks using a pair of dividers on a spinning workpiece to mark their spigots. I always wonder how they do this without having the calipers slightly off-center and having the tool snatched out of their hands. I like your go, no-go tool method - seems safer.

I prefer the appearance of the box when the male end is in the lid. When people take the lid off, their eyes go to the base, not to the lid.

I agree but if the flange is in the lid there isn't much safety area if you make a mistake which requires remaking the flange. So, do it right the first time.🙂🙂

Glen, the trick here is just do the part of the box with the recess first whether the top or bottom. 😉
