Turning a Fallen Tree into a Rustic Log Bench

A few months ago in my "Snow Day" video I showed an old fallen dead tree that has been lying next to one of my hiking trails. It's always felt like kind of an eye-sore, this clean cut head-height log sticking out of the deeply wooded and otherwise wild surroundings.
So today I decided to finally do something with it. Make a rustic bench for a nearby view point.
The log has been there for years, and is fairly rotten already, so I don't expect it to last very long, but it'll make a great bench while it does.
I hope you enjoy watching me struggle with the build as I figure out how to cut, move, and shape this tree into a nice looking bench.
TOOLS USED:
• Improvised Lifting Straps: amzn.to/435nCYc
• DeWalt Flexvolt 60V Max 16" electric chainsaw (DCCS670X1 - which has sadly been discontinued). I hope to upgrade soon to the much more beefy DCCS677B - 20" 4hp version from the DeWalt electric chainsaw line: amzn.to/3nfbqVk

Love this - the bottle of water at the end felt well deserved!

Thanks! And yeah... I knew while I was doing it, but y'know how it is... I was thinking to myself "is there too much crap getting in my eyes or just enough?" ;-) Thanks for watching!

Haha. But then it wouldn’t fit in the bag on my ATV! Nah, you’re right, I’ve been eyeing the new 20” recently. The extra would be nice for some of these of random jobs. But to be honest, I very rarely deal with anything over 8” diameter out here. I mostly just have thousands of skinny alder, and coppice maple to thin and firewood to buck. 16” is plenty for my day to day. Thanks for watching!

@@lumberingshenanigans do you use the 20v or 60v Dewalt Chainsaw? Looking to purchase one to use on my 100 acre lot. Thanks!

@cburke1976 I use an older 16” 60v and I swear the 60v is the only one worth using. I have the little 20v 12” also but it’s way underpowered to be labeled “chainsaw” in my opinion. And wow the new 20” 60v is a real beast! Affiliate link -> amzn.to/3IMwtph
